did you know that i had a question on my exam about Extra sensory perception, which was something like "which statement best describes ESP". the answer was "nonsense, and unsupported by any scientific evidence what so ever". i thought it was funny that that particular lecturer had such a strong dislike of the concept of ESP that he put a question on the exam about it... i've noticed that at universities more than anywhere else, mainly if your doing a science degree, anything supernatural that cant be scientifically tested is frowned upon. especially religion. i had one lecturer that would frequently make sniping remarks bout christianity. he was pretty mean about it. did you know that their is this biologist called richard dawkins, who wrote a book called 'The God Delusion' its such a rude title for a book! everybody just thinks they're right these days and thinks anyone who has any kind of supernatural or religious belief is delusional. it really bothers me. people are so close minded... science is supposed to be about testing all kinds of ideas and being open to all possibilities... |

That's funny, because a concept being unsupported by scientific evidence doesn't necessarily make it "nonsense", thereby making the answer itself nonsense. :tama: Quoted for truth. Personally, I like the "anything is possible unless proven otherwise" approach, and if you go into some areas of physics (especially relativity and other theoretical stuff) you realise that we actually know sod all about anything.

yes thats right, the more we learn about science the more we see how much we dont know. i suppose i cant blame the guy for being a bit stuck in his ways, he is like, 80 years old... gotta be the oldest lecturer in the country, hehe. speaking of people who aren't very fond of the supernatural, has anyone seen penn and tellers bullshit? |

Oh my God, I can't stand Penn and Teller! Just what the hell do they think they're doing anyway? Those two disgust me. |

those guys are so mean. all they do is swear profusely, calling all the people they are interveiwing 'arseholes, fuckwits, douchebags, etc' if they were doing some kind of clinical trials on the alternative medicine practices they review, maybe the show would be somewhat worth watching, but they usually just get some guy to go in, have the treatment done, then come out and sy 'it didn't work'. and then penn and teller start swearing and calling the prctioners names. these are hardly scietific tests |
