we were at the gorge park and it slithered across the gravel path in front of us. boy was he fast, first time i've ever seen one in the wild. but yeah, when I saw him i ws yelling 'snake snake!' at kate, cause she somehow didn't see him. we stood still and let him slither away into the grass. he was so cute  ! even though he looked like a brown snake, which is the second most poisonous snake in the world, but he was just so cute . but seriously, if you ever come to Australia, do not try to play with the snakes. they can get quite grumpy if you annoy them, and we seem to have most of the really deadly ones here. we have most of the deadliest everything here. don't know why that is, but many of the world's deadliest creatures like to congregate in this country. interestingly enough, despite being really poisonous, our deadly stuff doesnt kill many people. they mostly just run away. i'd be lot more scared of places with bears and lions and monkeys an stuff... |

There are bears, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, fox, deer, skunks and snakes where I live, peggs. We even have rattlesnakes. Loads of rattlesnakes! And I always hear on the news about mountain lions killing and eating people's pets. A fairly common sight where I live are people getting up in the morning and finding bears and mountain lions in their swimming pool. One guy even had a moose in his pool just a week ago! And a few times I've woken up in the afternoon to find a full grown deer staring at me on the front porch through my living room window. When my mother was a kid she saw loads of bears, and she came close to almost being attacked by one once. One time, in the woods by my house, a very large snake came out of no where and was slithering full speed at me. Let me tell you, I ran like hell to get away from it! I didn't stop until I was halfway to my house. Lucky for me the snake lost interest and went somewhere else. EDIT:Oh I almost forgot, we have wild turkeys running around all over too.

The most wildlife we get are hedgehogs, badgers, foxes and deer. We have a deer park nearby, which is nice. I had a deer shoot out in front of me while cycling - it skidded, fell over and tried to get through the bush on my side of the road. A hedgehog crossed the road in front of me once, too. Pretty fast for its size. |

that would be awesome, you go out for a morning swim and there's a bear or lion chillin in your pool! or a moose! hah, thats hilarious. if it happened to me though it would scare the crp out of me. bears are so huge! and if you ran in to one with cubs they'd tear you to bits. do you live near the country or something ruby? it seems like a lot of wildlife to be roaming around populated areas. most of ours stay in their forests, but you get roos jumping out in front of cars on the highways near the forests a fair bit. they're incredibly dumb, so they throw themselves in front of cars a fair bit. its practically impossible to find things like koalas and platypus, they're quite elusive, but we found an echidna the other day. thts like an australian hedgehog, its a marsupial im pretty sure. he was even cuter than the brown snake. we named him sir mandy, and made a video of him on kates phone. rattlesnakes are supposed to be common in america like brown snkes and tiger snakes are common here, isn't that right? the common australian snakes have venom that is something like 200- 400 times more poisonous as the venom of north american rattlesnkes, but they don't cause many deaths. we've only had 41 recorded snakebite deaths in this country in the past 20 years, because they're pretty timid little fellas. most people who get bitten are drunk guys being dickheads and annoying them, or people who just aren't being very careful, running around in the thick of forests where you can't see the ground clearly. brown snakes hang round farms and houses in the country a fair bit though, cause of the rats and birds. |

I've lived in the country all my life, peggs. I spent a good fifteen years growing up outside the city limits in the hills and woods where there was only six houses nearby. Now I live in a small neighborhood in the lower foothills just twenty minutes or so outside of town. Looking out my front window, I see only rolling hills covered in dense forests, and I'm only a short walk away from a lake. There are only two or three houses on those hills, but around me there are a few dozen houses in my neighborhood. I can even see snow on the tops of those hills once in a while. But they're way higher up than where I am, so while the hills get snow I get severe frost or hail. So basically I live in the woods on the side of a mountain. And yes, rattlesnakes are extremely common here in California. One summer my mother and grandparents came across atleast twenty of them. Sometimes even scorpions would come wandering in too. There's loads of animals out here, and I do love nature so I'm very happy where I live. I just need to remember to give the local wildlife their space and let them be in peace. My nextdoor neighbor had a racoon living in his tree a few months back. I've also seen fox drinking from my birdbath in the evening. A few years back there was even a opossum and a skunk fighting on my front porch. |

that sounds really beautiful to live out in the country like that i lived in i suppose what would classify as a country area, but its still considered a metropolitan country town. now i live in the capital city, and boy is it different! But i've always had forests nearby that have been preserved, its just that now that i'm in the city they aren't 5 mnutes walk from my house. i think there shoul be more than what there is, but i dont think my opinion matters to loggers and the government <_< |

It is beautiful out here. Funny thing is that I've looked at pictures of Australia in books and thought to myself 'that place looks so much more beautiful than where I live! I wish I could go there and see it some day.' The hills that surround where I live get blanketed in thick fog in the winter time. The fog and mists just silently creep through the hills and look like drifting ghosts slinking through the night. Everything gets really quiet, and it makes a great enviornment for me when I'm writing my poetry. I love how peaceful and still everything is when it's like that. |

Where I live, Deer are a common site, sometimes I go exploring and come across some alligators but I stay away from the water. When I see Deer, they don't seem intimidated by me. I actually managed to get very close to one without it running away! |

When I was a kid, my mother used to feed the deer all sorts of fruits and melons. The deer got used to her, and even brought their babies in for the fresh fruit that mom would give them. My mother could stand six or seven feet from them while they ate with their babies and the deer didn't seem to mind. |
