I'm a new user & just love the great sleep I am getting from my machine. Every since though I have developed chapped lips. I've tried several chapped sticks, but none really work that well. Now my doctor is telling me to go to a dermatologist. Has anybody else every had this problem? If so, what did you do to correct it? Thanks |

Sounds like you may be breathing with your mouth open. You didn't say what type of mask or interface that you use or whether or not you use a chin strap. The chin strap may help keeping your mouth closed and avoiding the chapped lips. I might suggest that you rub some vasoline on your lips before retiring. The chap stix should have helped though.. Good Luck. |

I use a nasal mask only. I do not use a chin strap. I am aware though of what you are talking about. Maybe I should try that too. I hate the chapped lips. They burn & are just ruining my lips. I may have to try the vasoline too. Thanks for your tips. |

I'd like to second the Vaseline recommendation. Chap Stick is a great product, but for me, it works best as a protectant. Petrolatum absorbs readily into your skin, hydrates it, and promotes healing. I'll pass along my own tip for you. If your lips are getting rough and chapped, you can put a few drops of baby oil on a soft toothbrush, and brush your lips very gently, in a circular motion. That will loosen any bits of dead skin, and you can apply Vaseline afterwards. I carry a small tube of Vaseline or Aquaphor (any petrolatum-based product will do just fine) and apply it a number of times during the day. I find that it makes a big difference, especially in the winter. Good luck! Carl |

Thanks for comments. Last night my husband noticed that after I had fallen asleep that he heard a hissing sound. So he checked all around the plastic area & saw that there was air coming out. It was coming out from the top & bottom lip & just blowing down on both of my lips. So we are thinking that the mask is not tight enough. I had it rather loose because of a deviated septum. Do you think we may have hit on something? I think we might have. Let me have your thoughts. Thanks |
