Hey, it's me, Tyler! So, I've been playing the World of Darkness roleplaying games for a while, and getting the books through Paul. A few people around the store have expressed interest in trying it out, and I'm willing to run a bit of a demo game to show you some of what it's about. With Halloween fast approaching, it seems an auspicous evening. So, if anyone is interested in trying out some modern horror roleplay, now is the time to speak up! Ok, the details: -Friday the 31/10/08, at Corner of the Attic. -Let me know in advance. Here is one place, in store or through Paul is another. I would prefer to work out character sheets with interested players in advance, as it takes about 20 minutes, and I'd need to help a new player. At least one potential player has already done a sheet. If anyone prefers, I can write out characters for people to pick-up-and-play. -The World of Darkness game is set in the modern world today, but in a darker version of our reality. Life is bleaker and more hopeless, and conspiracies of shadowy figures, both supernatural and mundane, secretly control our lives from behind closed doors. The vast majority of people remain ignorant of the truth, but some poor few search for the truth, or have it thrust on them. The game is about those people, and how they react and try to survive after stumbling across the horrors in the shadows. -The game will follow a group of fairly normal people living in Melbourne, who will have a traumatic encounter with the supernatural, and be forced to choose between seeking the truth, (and maybe revenge) or simply trying to escape from what they've found. That's up to the players, of course, and you'll have to come along to find out more. -Yes, there are rules that allow you to actually play as one of those shadowy figures. There are expansion books with rules for Vampires, Werewolves, Mages, Changelings (think dark fairy tales), Prometheans (like Frankenstein's monster), and even Hunters, those normal humans who secretly protect humanity from the monsters. While canny readers may note a distinct possibility for this game becoming a Hunter game someday, all of that advanced stuff is better left for later games, once the basic rules have been mastered. It's a fairly straight-forward rules set, and easy to learn. Story is put first, before rules. That said, it's still simpler to start basic. -This session will likely last a couple of hours, more if we include breaks to eat and stretch legs. The story I have in mind for our little demo game will likely only last for that one session. -As is hinted at above, if this were to be a success, I'd consider running further games in the future, either continuing this story or with all new ones. So, please, questions? Expressions of interest? |

Paul and I were just discussing that. He suddenly remembered that he might be busy that night. It'll either be friday, as I said, or the next night, saturday the first of november. |

I'm already in, got my sheet ready. This Saturday I think I'll order in a copy of the book, it looks awesome. One thing Tyler, apparently speed was STR and DEX + 5, is that right? if so, got to change my speed on the sheet. |

Yeah, add five to it. No big concern, though. Like I said, I run things light on rules, heavier on story. That said, I do enjoy a spot of combat here and there... Btw, those of you who are friends with me on facebook will have been invited to the event there. If you aren't friends with me on facebook... why not? Is it something I said? |

Expression of interest. my time is short leading up to the event so I'll likely have to pick it up as we go along but I'm a quick study of the basic mechanics to be able to follow on, when putting the and I always remember not to forget yes. |
Yes, that is a picture of me, stop asking ![]() Any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. | |

Well, so far I have 2 definite, (make that 3 if your coming, Maril) and another 3 maybes. If anyone else is interested, they are welcomed with open arms. One great thing about this is that it can work wonderfully with two or three people, or with eight or nine people. Aside from the one person coming with a prepared character sheet, I'm in the process of writing up about ten others, with different skills and so on. Each will have a little bit of background info and some other fancy things, so people can show up and just grab a character to play that appeals to them, out of the options available. As for timing, I'm actually working that day. It's unfortunate, but I'm badly needed so I can't say no. I finish at 5, so I'll be at the store before 5:30. That gives plenty of time to sit down, give a basic rundown of the rules to everyone, have everybody pick a character and be ready to play by 6:30. That's if everyone else can make it that early. I'll drop by at 10-11ish, before my shift, to drop off books, paper and have everything prepared for when I get there. Any objections? Edited by heavy_shift16, Oct 28 2008, 10:50 PM.

Thanks for the game, was good fun, next time we can have it at my place if you like and you can bunk down in the spare room instead of having to shift off and catch a train. |
