Making MP3 First of all, I should make this thing clear that it is legally permissible to create MP3 backups of CDs that u have purchased. In order to do this, u first download software that allows extracting audio from CDs into Wav files. You can encode the Wav files into MP3. I suggest u to download CD-DA Extractor from www.Poikosoft.com. It is a freeware. Or u can also find related software from www.Download.com.The above program do both the things, which generally is not done by other programs. The quality of MP3s u get is highly dependent on the BITRATE that it has been encoded at. Bitrate refers to the quality of music that a media player will process per second. While higher bitrates will definitely produce better quality, it will also create bigger files. Bitrate is measured in Kbps. A 192 Kbps MP3 file has CD quality with optimal file size whereas 128 Kbps has near CD quality. I prefer 192 to 128.The best quality is when the bitrate is 320 Kbps.It is the highest possible limit for Bitrate. Don’t reduce the frequency. This may reduce the file size but it drastically reduce the quality of the sound to a level where some of the reproduction or distortion in the bass or treble becomes clearly audible. Making MP3 from cassettes It’s not necessary that u always have to rip a CD to create an MP3.U can create the same using ur ordinary tape. All u need is a soundcard on ur machine with a line-in option and an adapter cable that will go into line-in on the soundcard end and the line-out on the tape end. Then using software such as Easy CD creator, u can start the recording process from the tape. Most software will also identify the breaks between songs and therefore save the different tracks as separate files. Just ensure that before u start the process, the Line-in option of ur soundcard is enabled and not muted. U can check this out by double-clicking on the volume icon on the taskbar. sourabh |
