San José” is a fourth rate ship-of-the-line of the Spanish Navy, built in 1703 in Toulon shipyards and used initially by a French privateer, before being captured and sold to the Spanish Crown in 1714. She has made several trips between Spain and the American colonies.

She currently has as main port now Havana, its primary mission being the protection of Cuba and Santo Domingo against any enemy attacks and defending Spanish merchant vessels from pirates and privateers.

Weighing 752 tons and measuring 43 m. length, the ship has two decks and three tall masts, with full rigging (square sails). She holds 56 guns, located as follows:

- lower gun deck: 24 eighteen pound guns
- upper gun deck: 22 twelve pound guns
- Quarterdeck: 10 eight pound guns.

Other technical characteristics:

- Keel – 37.36 m.
- Beam – 11.64 m.
- Armour – timber

As a full rigged ship she can reach speeds of up to 11 knots in a casual wind. Her compliment consists of 500 men, 150 of whom are highly trained soldiers.
