Franco-Spanish-Italian Alliance of 1873

- All parties agree to enter into a defensive alliance, including spheres. (This clause is disregarded if one of the signatories attacks another signatory nation's sphere, if allowed by the sphere leader.)

- All parties agree to enter into a offensive alliance.

Penalty for breaking this alliance or any of the clauses is transfer/reduction of 100 prestige and 100,000 pounds to be divided to the other signatories who did not violate the treaty.

Perhaps there should be a house rule against threatening war with someone over an arbitrary political reform and then immediately signing an alliance with them

The Rebirth of the French Empire - 1883

Photograph of the new ruler, and Monarch of the French, Emperor Napoleon V. Son of Prince Napoleon Joseph, who was a nephew of Napoleon I. Victor was made the Head of the House of Bonaparte after the previous head, Prince Napoleon Eugene Louis, the son of Napoleon III(who was executed by the Orleans Monarchy, rather than taking power earlier like he did historically) was killed in Portuguese Zulu fighting Zulu rebels in the British Army.

The rise to power:

After the second war for Alsace-Lorraine, the politics and government of the Kingdom of France, which was also well on its way to becoming a Republic, was in chaos. Blame for the loss of the war was being hurled everywhere, and at everyone, it was clear the Orleans would not be able to keep the peace in France for much longer. France has been declining for awhile now, being passed first by the newly formed German Empire in terms of industry and military, and then by the Russian Empire, largely due to the incompetent government Orleans, who gave increasing power to people, leading to indecisiveness, stagnation and delayed processes that took a lot of time, in the government. The one thing France had been able to stay at the top was in science, education, and technology, having the most advanced and sophisticated technology in the world, but at the cost of other areas. Add onto that, France had just joined a war many French thought they had no business in, the Spanish war of New Granada against America and her spheres. The previous Monarchy stated he was a man of his word, and that he had promised the Spanish to reconquer New Granada, in exchange for help in the previous war of containment against the UK.

Even before the war, there were many uprisings of communists(which was common throughout Europe during the time, the communists took power in the Netherlands) and anarcho-liberals, but none were much of a threat to France, other than a few Algerian nationalists who managed to capture Algeria. In 1881, all chaos broke loose, and the country went into massive rebellion. Communists, anarcho-liberals, pro-democracy jacobins, reactionaries, nationalists, pro-July Monarchy supporters, even a bunch of crazy women who wanted the right to vote took up arms, and of course, Napoleon V and his loyal supporters. All this, while the entirety French Armed Forces were fighting a conflict with the US and Mexico in Central America, which had nothing to do with France.

By the end of it all, Napoleon V's army came out on top, and ceased power, while the previous Orleans Monarchy was exiled to Peru.

The death of Napoleon Eugene Louis:

Portrait of Prince Eugene Louis being attacked by Zulu warriors at the battle of Ulundi.

The previous head of the House of Bonaparte, as well as cousin and personal friend of Napoleon V, was killed in Portuguese controlled Zulu, while fighting in the British Army against rebels that wanted the restoration of the Kingdom of Zulu, in southern Africa.

The House of Bonaparte was devastated by the loss, and have criticized the British for not protecting him well enough. Napoleon V is cited as saying "The Empire of the French will not forget such a tragedy like this. Who do these vile sub-humans think they are, killing a Monarch in battle? All civilized peoples know Royalty is supposed to be captured, and killing them is strictly forbidden. I've grown to resent the people of the tropics, they refuse to civilize, or are incapable of it. Any civilizing attempts of these mongrels are futile, the Empire of the French will review our colonial policy due to this. As for Zulu, we will see to it that the entire population of the Zulu is wiped out, we will see their crops burn, their mud houses torn down, we will retrieve the old Imperial Princes' stolen sword back, and get our revenge."

Napoleon V's coronation speech:

In his coronation speech, Napoleon V vowed to get revenge for his cousin, bring back France to the top power it should be, surpassing Russia and the UK in industry by all means nessesary, and to re-annex Algeria, and looking to deal with the threat of Communism in Western Europe. He also briefly mentioned Wallonian independence, given he's actually been living in Dutch Belgium before he came to power in France.

Surprisingly, the Emperor had kind words for the United Kingdom, the Russian Empire, and the German Empire, the Germans being one of the major sources of the revanchist sentiments in France. Napoleon said he thought continued fighting between France and Germany over their disputed border would get neither country anywhere.

The Emperor however had some harsh words for the Netherlands and Italy, firstly voicing his criticisms of the evil that is Communism, secondly stating that his patience is running thin on the transfer of Savoy and Nice to the Empire of the French, and that action would be taken soon if Italy did not cede the rightfully French territories.

The Secretary for Foreign Affairs congratulates Napoleon on his tenacity and organisation, and while I am saddened to hear that his administration is clinging to the vestiges of monarchy, I, and the DPRUN in general, hope that the change will bring new energies and political fervour internationally.

However, we must, as always, be quick to clarify that the DPRUN is an entirely peaceful nation, content to strive towards our Worker's Utopia, and cordially offer any and all to join us in our journey, but we do not think that such an ideal is seized and kept by force, and as such, our transcendence of the vices of capitalism and bourgeois society cannot and should not be seen as threatening.

On a somewhat more pleasant note, we invite any representatives that France has to come to the DPRUN, to see the vast strides we are making in social progress, enlightenment and human wellbeing, and we hope that this paints a more real picture of the opportunities the DPRUN presents for international politics and humanity. We would be especially delighted if Napoleon were to come, himself, but we are all to aware of the pressures of running a Great Nation, and will not be the slightest offended if he is too busy.
