Greetings to the Kingdom of Portugal. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies is overjoyed to learn of portuguese support for italian unification. We deeply hope, in the not-so-distant future, to share with our portuguese brothers the joy of seeing a unified homeland for the people of Italy.

Yours,

The Ambassador of The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

We have taken consideration of Portugal's Non-Aggression Pact proposal.

We are willing to iron out the details through private channels to ensure both parties are satisfied.

We can guarantee regardless that the Spanish Crown wishes no harm to our Iberian neighbor, and shall cease a militarized border and any threat of invasion, regardless if a deal is struck or not.

Signed, Spanish Foreign Office.

I would like (OOC) to note that actually, the southern route is far safer, especially for food transports. The difference is in temperature fluctations; with the southern route, not only do you get the strong westerlies to Western Australia, but the temperature doesn't change as much as if you were to head north along the African coastline, to India, which stops food from spoiling.

This trade route cutting along the southern edge of the Indian ocean was in fact discovered by the Dutch Oost-Indische Compagnie in the 17th century to support trade routes to Batavia without the massive loss of cargo and life that was experience through the traditional route of following the African and Indian coastlines.

The route is known as the Brouwer Route, after its discovery by Hendrik Brouwer in 1611, and it greatly increased the viability of Dutch colonial ambitions, as it as much as halved the time taken to sail the route, as well as being a safer voyage overall (discounting the numerous shipwrecks on the coast of Western Australia).

Yay, history!
