![]() Despite the recent naval reports of sea monsters off the coast of West Africa, Portuguese thalassocracy will maintain its current vector. ![]() LONG LIVE KING AFONSO THE FIFTH Under our great African Conqueror the curious and good willed Portuguese people will give true meaning to Empire status. There is much work to be done. A chance passing of the great explorer Retrato de Vasco da Gama and a mysterious figure that remains unnamed has single handily changed geographical science and policy. Vasco da Gama now contends that sailing Eastward, from the east most country in Europe, will not produce a quicker sea route to Indian, but instead will more potentially provide discovery of unsettled lands. King Afonso disregarded these theories until Vasco Da Gama also concluded that along with unsettled lands, a quicker route to India would also be found considering that Constantinople was no longer an available trade route. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Weighing heavily on King Afonso is the bitter drain that Ceuta has been on imperial coffers. Aids and advisory aristocrats have concluded that only with the capture and subjection of the city of Tangiers will Ceuta begin to turn a profit. And so our great Majesty sits in his upper chambers, debating if he is to concern Portuguese wealth with forcefully securing his key to the Mediterranean, or if uncharted territory will provide the Monopoly that Portugal so vehemently seeks. |

All not mentioned nations will be handled with tact, respect, and friendliness. The King has declared that the following list is not organized in any fashion. He can be a fickle man, and he has asked his scribes to record this information as it came to his mind. Castile: To our beloved brothers of our green Iberian Peninsula, the age of discovery is upon us. As European strife and the rise of the Ottomans continues to dominate the culture of our lands, we must forge ahead with a friendship that sets an example for other European sovereign nations to follow. Treaty of Tordesilhas We hope that Castile still has our early drafts of the Treaty of Tordesilhas and we will continue to refine its definitions to appease both our nations. Portugal hopes to enter a game lasting alliance with our Spanish brothers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Morocco: To our fellow holders of the Mediterranean key. King Afonso is more tolerant of the Muslim culture that permeates from Moroccan lands. His majesty humbly applauds Moroccan efforts to circumvent the Portuguese expansions of Ceuta, moving trade around the province into Tangiers has diminished the sought gains fought by Portugal in 1415. His majesty also recognizes Morocco as the premier African (proper) Mediterranean super power. Portugal would be willing to trade back governmental rights of Ceuta to Morocco for: **Proper war reparations spent by his Majesty's father in 1414 **An undisputed claim to a single (southern) Western African colony that is not bordering Morocco, and is not yet colonized by Morocco **A declaration of friendship moving forward by our two nations. An agreement to set aside what our fore-fathers did while we move ahead in peace Portugal hopes to enter a game lasting alliance with our Moroccan rivals ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ London: Portugal continues to uphold the Treaty of Windsor ratified in 1386 by the marriage of the of King John I to Philippa of Lancaster, daughter of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster. Portugal recognizes the super power that England is, and as well has not forgotten the help England gave to the Portuguese during the Siege of Lisbon in 1147. It is this friendship that our two nations hold that must serve as cornerstone understanding of how long standing alliances are to function; off compromise, kindness, and always the will to assist. Portugal hopes to enter a game lasting alliance with our English friends ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Portugal is open to discussion, wine and dinner, or a trip to a vineyard; with any nation wishing to engage in economic or cultural advances with Portugal. Portugal recognizes that it is every sovereign nation's right to excel itself and claim uncolonized lands. Portugal remains complacent and confident in the diplomacy done by European super powers. Portugal always opens its embassy's to other nations needing a neutral third party mediator. Portugal advocates diplomacy and trade over the use of violence and warfare. However Portugal has before, and will again if needed, defend its sovereignty with fire and steel if need be. |

The sultanate of Morocco will accept the terms of trading Ceuta, but only if the portuguese king promises to sell it to him the 11/11 - 1444 (day 1). The sultanate will then promise to pay his part of the deal as soon a possible. |

We embrace the Portugese declaration of friendship and we expect to form a strong alliance to confront as brothers any continental threat. On the colonial front, further discussion will be needed to clarify our relation on that matter. We hope for Portugese help to end the Reconquista and to keep the Arab threat controlled. We do not look with good eyes any concession made to the people who oppressed the iberian peninsula for so long. |

The English crown, though embroiled in the 100 years war, will uphold the Treaty of Windsor. We hope for continued friendship and a working relationship as we both search for new ways to travel west into the unknown |

No idea where this came from.... as i said to you Castile has no interest in Portugese land, mainly because Portugal is way stronger as an ally than as some 10 provinces for Castile... But i have the solution... Castile will offer you vassalization, so that way we can act as an unbreakable alliance...;) Anyway it seems that EU is not your kind of game since almost everything you pointed as not right is what in my opinion makes this game so fun. Hope to cross swords against you in a HOI game! |

Good to know you dont feel threatened by me..=) And i agree with you... this game is not about winning... its about surviving and getting the most of what you start with... while trying to stop anyone else from getting anything else... XD I dont think that an AIed Portugal will disrupt the game specially since it should end as a part of Spain... Portugal as a human can be a great ally... as an AI not that much... =/ I dont think you should feel forced to continue if you dont want to, we do this to have fun, for the rest we have work/school... Cheers! |

You shouldn't just vassalize yourself to Castile though. Another nation shouldn't just get 10 free provinces and a colonial empire because someone doesn't want to put in the work of maintaining their independence via diplomacy. We essentially already banned voluntary servitude/vassalization after that treaty between Dragon as France and Luke as Spain anyways, lol. |

Woah! Jeezuz.... Well first off crazy Luke Sultan. No need to draw up battle plans.... I obviously have better relations with you and Morocco than a Khan that I have only spoken to through letters sent from that far off land. Also ~ It is very easy for me (as Portugal) to say that I'll colonize in that direction.....Since I would be anyway. I still have no idea how "I bring Westernization" to another nation so, I'll have to get that lowdown on Saturday in Teamspeak. I bet its just a land border, isn't it? |

and so began the quest to find the portugese soilders. The only thing we could hear in the distance was this song…. "I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long Like a worn out recording of a favorite song So while she lay there sleepin' I read the paper in bed And in the personal columns, there was this letter I read If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain If you like making love at midnight in the dunes of the cape Then I'm the love that you've looked for, write to me and escape" They must be still drunk on vacation |
