I, Martin Van Buren of the Democratic Party, promise to uphold the integrity and honor of my predecessors who have carried this emerging nation into an Industrial future. Our main policies we wish to continue to uphold or change for the good of mankind in this great democracy are the following: 1) Protect the basic rights of every citizen of the United States. 2) To consider the eventual expansion of voting rights into universal suffrage as the people become educated enough to do so. 3) To extend our reach to the Pacific Coast, and consider moving our capital to the great Willamette Valley that Lewis and Clark 'first' discovered. 4) To become the greatest Industrial power in the world. 5) To uphold the Monroe Doctrine, a fine bit of policy written by John Quincy Adams and approved by then sitting president James Monroe. Monroe Doctrine: The Monroe Doctrine was a US foreign policy regarding Latin American countries in 1823. It stated that further efforts by European nations to colonize land or interfere with states in North or South America would be viewed as acts of aggression, requiring U.S. intervention. At the same time, the doctrine noted that the United States would neither interfere with existing European colonies nor meddle in the internal concerns of European countries. The Doctrine was issued in 1823 at a time when nearly all Latin American colonies of Spain and Portugal had achieved or were at the point of gaining independence from the Portuguese and Spanish Empires; Peru consolidated its independence in 1824, and Bolivia would become independent in 1825, leaving only Cuba and Puerto Rico under Spanish rule. The United States, working in agreement with Britain, wanted to guarantee that no European power would move in. ![]() ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Relations Friendly Neutral Concerned Friendly Sphere/ally Friend in Liberty Friendly Neutral Ally Ally Ally Neutral Strained over Alaska

![]() We greet the most Ascendant United States. We see that despite her youth, the United States has already achieved great things, and we forsee a blossoming into a nation of liberty and prosperity. His Magnificence, the Sultan, sincerely wishes to live alongside the United States as she comes into her own. We are sending this correspondence as a formal greeting from the Sultan to the new President of the United States, and as a request to open an Embassy in Washington. We hope that our requests are granted, and we might engage in an amicable and close partnership. The Sultan is most enthused by the pragmatism of the United States' foreign policy; He feels that this Monroe Doctrine is both prudent and well-justified. The United States should make a fine protector of the Liberty of the Americas. We encourage the United States to deal with the issues surrounding the attempted Texan Secession most carefully. North America has been blessed by peace in recent years, and it would be deeply regrettable if it were to explode into violence so soon. ![]() |

His Majesty, King William IV, would like to extend greetings to His Most Honourable President Van Buren. With the decline of Spanish and Portuguese empires in the Americas, His Majesty agrees with the American position that further European conquests in the region must be resisted. The Monroe Doctrine has the support of The United Kingdom so as long as The United States doesn't interfere with British dominions in the Americas. Also, in regards to the crisis currently engulfing Texas, His Majesty would like to discuss the issue with both Mexican and American officials present. It is British opinion that war should be avoided between Democratic nations, we hope that the American people feel the same.

We would like to avoid war with Mexico, however California seems to be a sticking point, as well as the additional lands Mexico wishes to retain. Any actions taken against Mexico will undoubtedly be well versed between leaders of our two great nations, GB and USA, who share so many things in common such as liberal (institution building) democracy and our shared cultural heritage. While we wish to see the United States become a truly competitive industrial nation, and wish to fulfill our god-given right to manifest destiny, fostering this special relationship USA and GB share in terms of political ideology is what is most important at the time being. America fears war with Mexico may be inevitable if they are not willing to develop a timeline of transfer for California to the United States, however if war is to break out between Mexico and United States we wish to assure French and British diplomats residing in Mexico City that America wants to take no more than what is our god given right (those which I gain cores from Manifest Destiny).

This really is none of my business but, your suggesting that Mexico should give in to an unlawful rebellion and cede almost half of its country too you as well? That is plainly absurd that is sovereign Mexican territory and is rightfully Mexican and not American. The fact that you think Mexico wanting to Iretain its land is some upfront to the American government is about as absurd as half of the united states breaking away and fighting a war over slavery of all things. - William I |

The Dutch are in no position to lecture the American government about slavery, nor should they be so considered with territorial disputes by two emerging American nations. So in essence we agree, it really is none of your business. 'Murica We sent our greatest diplomat to Mexico City to offer a compromise where Mexico acquires Oklahoma, Hawaii, Panama, and future colonies in return for America acquiring Texas and California and the right to colonize the rest of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. This offer has thus far been rejected. As I stated, America FEARS war MAY be inevitable. Though we also believe there is still hope for compromise.

I should add currently Mexico wishes to cede the rebllious Texans and nothing else. Texans who want nothing of the politics ran not by government officials but by generalisimos such as the currently exiled Santa Anna who sits in exile probably in Cuba waiting for a chance to bring Mexico back under a cruel dictatorship. It has happened multiple times in the past and something tells me it could happen again (because it did multiple times in real life :P). |

The Mexican Government is offended that the US Government thinks it has a right to interfere and demand Mexican land. Mexico is a sovereign state with internationally recognized borders. The idea that the United States can demand sovereign territory is preposterous. Its as if the the UK were demand Alsace Lorraine or the Russian demand Barcelona. As for the Texan's they are a rebellious province. The US has put down several of its own rebellions in its own territory and we are going to do the same with the Texans. As a civilized nation the US should respect international boarder. If the US does not immediately withdraw its claims on Mexican core we will be forced to view the US as an enemy. el presidente de mexico

We will take this into consideration, as these territories are both considered core land to both nations it is a point of interest to America, but not a point of obsession. The United Kingdom has informed our esteemed president of an offer to exchange claims for hawaii and panama to the UK in exchange for their indirect support and a non aggression pact in order for America to take all American cores from Mexico. While we have not decided to do so, as was stated in private communique it is a very appealing offer. As far as President Van Buren has been told, London is drafting up a NAP involving such a deal, again something we are not convinced we could or should sign, however appealing it may be. As President I feel at a conflict of policy, on one hand I wish to strengthen the United States to procure hegemony of the Americas and defend the emerging democracies of Latin America, and on the other hand we wish to obtain cores baby jesus sent down from heaven to Van Buren in the form of Manifest Destiny.

Through careful and transparent policies I am proud to announce the Mexican and American governments have reached a stand down over the cores we share (or would share eventually). Mexico is going to reclaim Texas and colonize one or both of the mid west colonies (oklahoma was a crappy musical anyways). America will not press it's claims on Mexico (probably won't even research realism since why does USA need prestige) and will offer assistance in putting down the dirty texans and their rebellion. USA offers the following treaty to Mexico as well as all emerging independent nations in the Western Hemisphere, signers must attest to whether they wish to ally solely the United States, or if they would like to include themselves in a broader alliance involving all American nations. Since it is bold and broad in it's inception we will call it the League of Nations of the Western Hemisphere. All nations who are admitted to the League of Nations will be granted full membership on equal footing with every other member including a right to veto any policy or treaties put before the League of Nations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Treaty of Portland (we got there ahead of the colonists) Mexico and United States will enter into an offensive and defensive alliance. USA will assist Mexico in the quelling of the Texas rebellion. USA will colonize Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Mexico will colonize the midwest penalty for breaking this treaty is 25 prestige and 10 infamy. X

It thrills the hearts of the British Parliament and the British Royal Family that stability and peace shall find a home in North America. Only by co-existing as equals can the American people, all peoples of the Americas, achieve their destiny for greatness. On a personal note: His Most Honorable President Van Buren of The United States, you sir shall surely be remembered by the chroniclers of history as one of the great men of your era. May peace long reign among equals.

Rossiyskaya Imperiya The Russian Empire sends greetings to the United States. In regards to the region of Alaska, the Russian Empire shall deny any sale of the colony. Since it is the only region outside the landmass of the Russian Empire under our control, and the prospect of gold being mined in Alaska, it is deemed extremely important to the interests of the Czar and the state. We do hope this doesn't sour our relations with the United States, and look to carry cordial relations into the future. |

The Mexican Government is glad to hear of the US governments policy change. We will of course accept the US deal but before signing it we would like to discuss some private issues of mutual interest. These dealing will not affect the overall terms just some of the minor details and hopefully in favor of the US. We hope to speak to the US ambassador soon.

Greetings Mr. President. The Brazilian people are most pleased with the way you have handled the issues at hand. The idea of a Pan-American cooperation is certainly interesting. We would, however like assurance of two points, that are concerning to us. First: We would like to make sure, that the Us will not attempt to add any member nation to its Sphere of Influence against its will. Also if the US would agree to help prevent other Powers from spreading their influence on the American continent, it would be much appreciated. Second: Many of the former Spanish colonies are in horrible shape. They lack a stable government, revolts are common, the people are poor and the young regimes are often corrupt to the bone already. Some might even lack properly defined borders and i will hardly have to tell you where this will lead in the future. Brazil sees it as its mission to end this misery, we therefore ask that the US will not interfere with our ambitions. We of course are more than willing to negotiate a fair deal with the fine Chilean government. Surely they would share our vision.

*The French Ambassador presents his credentials to the Secretary of State in Washington* France returns the warm greetings and words expressed by the new American ambassador to the Quai d'Orsay. We are delighted to continue friendly relations between our two nations. The President may be assured that France wishes to avoid hostile entanglements and alliances in the Americas as much as the United States wishes to avoid them in Europe. We are content if peace reigns in the Western Hemisphere and French companies may buy and sell goods freely.

Though Austria finds America upstart in her support for the headstrong Prussians we do recognise the great American achievement of establishing peace in the Americas and expanding influence abroad. We hope that America would not support a European war, especially when Austria has allies it wishes to assist achieve nationhood and would prefer not to be distracted from that. USA is overwhelmingly pleased with this offer to the point where we can not accept it, without offering further compensation to Spain. President Van Buren is shocked by the amount of cooperation Spain is offering with our addmittedly expansionist policy in the Caribbean. President Van Buren would like to invite Spain to the League of Nations (Pan American alliance + Japan) where Spain could apply for honoray membership in the League (equivalent to Japan's status). While this is a very ambitious goal for America, to invite a former colonial power to become friendly with ex colonial nations, we believe it would in our best interest of all current and former American powers to come together and work towards a common goal of security and economic progress. While Spain would have the USA's vote for admittion into the P4+1, we must point out that such an action as admission to the League of Nations must be approved unanimously by all official and honorary members. With the recent tension between Russia and the P4+1, we hope a friendship can form between Spain and Japan that will keep Spanish influence in the Pacific and could prove to be a stabilizing force for the rising tensions in NorthEast Asia.

The Spanish Empire declines the opportunity to have the chance to join the American Union + Japan. Due to geographical range and different goals we believe this would be a mistake. Nonetheless a treaty has been drafted regarding the Caribbean and is awaiting American approval.

Rossiyskaya Imperiya The Russian Empire is simply baffled at the American "response" by trying to force nations to its will to try and dominate the Pacific. And reports are surfacing that your President and his ego cannot contemplate the Czar denying the sale of Alaska has lead to the United States to in a sense declare war upon the Russian Empire. The fact that these reports are true, and the United States, trying to manipulate is South American allies, the Empire of Japan and even the Spanish Empire to fight us over land which has no importance being Alaska, can be stated as "The Worst Foreign Policy in the History of Man". The Russian Empire will not tolerate this sudden and idiotic rising of tensions by President Van Buren, all diplomatic ties will be cut and the Russian Empire will station forces to the Far East to await American men to die upon Russian beaches. Signed, Russian Diplomatic Corps |
