What is wrong with random battles?
Posted by realitymonkey (Brackenites) at Jun 18 2008, 08:53 AM. 6 comments
I'm currently arguing with a friend of mine about a project I want to head into. I wanted to make a fight scene, a good one, standalone, no storyline, had a good idea, have good choreography, animation experience, art, I'm set, however my friend says that alot of people do those things. Says stuff like stick fights and sprites, I protested that I've never seen a good one.
I couldn't put this on Newgrounds, quite frankly they aren't as artistically intelligent, but I really want to know, if a standalone fight scene, no sticks, good choreography, good EVERYTHING, a good idea, no storyline, how would that be bad? I know it's not common, not a good one anyway, Cause I haven't seen a very good one before on the internet (newgrounds anyway). But my friend promises me that it's not existant, because artists after a certain skill level agree with him, that storyline is of grave importance.
I still think that is untrue, that a good fight scene, or chase scene, anything like that would still be good without a storyline.

I'm not in the market for it, but just a heads up, there's a graphics tablet on Woot! today. I don't know if it's reasonably priced or not, but i just thought i'd mention it so anyone who wants one can check it out. Oh yeah, and as a warning, you only have a day to buy it.
A trip through the executive hive mind

I came across this news story on John K's blog.

A few choice words:

Where's a puking smiley when you need it?
I found this in the comments on John K's blog, and it needs to be said:

A few choice words:
- Quote:
“I love classic Mickey, but he needs to evolve to be relevant to new generations of kids,” Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, said in an interview.
- Quote:
At KidsWB.com, which is rolling out a revised site over the summer, the studio will let people customize Looney Tunes characters as they see fit.
“You want a dark, Goth version of Tweety Bird? Have at it,” said Lisa Gregorian, executive vice president for worldwide marketing at Warner Brothers Television.

Bill Hicks was right. "Kill yourselves ( marketers ). There's no rationality for what you do, you are lowering the standards of this planet, you are fucked and you are fucking us, it's the only rational thing to do: kill yourself".

Hmmm just imagine if you could work under such people like Adam phillips or Humbleego and Comlock or Anghenfil, Espen .
I would pick Ang
I cant say right at this moment as I text what will happen but an opportunity has arise in front of me, im going to take it. This was not foreseen but I have been giving this small chance, a window to see inside what may come to pass, to have a look inside a small glimpse view on what I am aspire to be which is an artist. art, if it is not drawing or making an animation in any typ of media or format. It’s the creating and thinking and imaginative steps that I enjoy the most when it comes to creating alone in it self.
As of now, a college professor happens to have a very close relative that works and part takes in a well renown active business that conducts in such work like animation or cartoons. I wish not to say what but I’ve been giving this hope or illusion if I can, come to face with actual live workers in these studios that take on tasks on making cartoons and animations or anything close to it. I have to be ready, what to ask and what to say. If anything I want to get something out of this.
(Greedy as that sound).
I have all ready an idea on what to do but I taught maybe if any one was interested on the forum to know, what would you guys mention to a director that works with *insert famous animation studio name*
How should I really go about this, never again I may not get this chance. *is nervous*
it be dreamy if I can help make cartoons for a living

Classic Illustration

Here's a blog about illustration, mainly about illustrators from the 40's / 50's (there's also never stuff).
http://todaysinspiration.blogspot.com/
And his flickr... (tons of highres pictures)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/leifpeng/

I think this one's 60's - 70's

The old ads are great, they often state things that are nowadays considered hazardous to your health.

This one's a Loomis, nice to see what he did apart from his books on drawing.

Leyendecker is amazing!
I love people who make things like this available.

Looking to buy a Tablet PC
Posted by PlasticCup (Brackenites) at May 29 2008, 09:15 PM. 20 comments
I'm going to university next year (going to study Informatica at Enschede), and I'm looking around for a laptop.
I am also looking to improve my digital art, and was looking for tablet pc's (basically, a notebook with a touchscreen that you can draw on).
I'm not sure though, as I could also get a laptop + an Intuos (Cintiq's a bit out of range as far as budget goes, I'm afraid).
I was wondering, do any of you have experience with tablet pc's, and if they really do work that much better than a pc + tablet as I imagine, or do you know good places to get them (I'm going to America in July, so I might get some friends to order them and then pay them back because technology is generally cheaper in America).

Hello there, new to the posting stuff here, I think this is my second one or something.
Most of you will probably think:"Oh look, another stupid topic"
Maybe it is, we will see
Anyways, I'd like to ask you some questions, if that's ok
1.When you draw things, how do you keep your juices flowing, or, in a more simple way, how do you keep on being creative, and keep on getting new ideas?
Basically, what do you draw the most?
2.Animation. Some exercises to start animating. Which ones are the best to start with?
I've done a little animation before, but nothing cool looking, just simple stuff, so I'm a beginner still.
3.Writing stories. For animation or comics. Coming up with fun, cool, real looking and yet strange characters, stories and countrysides. How do you do it? Writing it down bit by bit, or all at once?
If you find the time, please answer, I'll be most grateful
Wasting time, GM
