OK the wierd thing about this is that i have a file that i have been working on for about 6 months now that is about 60 MB in Flash that seems to open with no problem....This new file im working on for the comp is 3 MB but for some reason it says there isn't enough virtual memory to run that file........I have had a 2 day delay because of this shit and it's really pissing me off because the file that it happens to be doing to happens to be the October Animation Comp file.......I have redone this comp 3 times now and am running outta patience...If it isn't one thing it's another....I'm sorry but I happen to be enraged at this point so forgive the Hostile attitude..... Does anybody know where I can go into windows to allocate say 50% of my virtual memory to Flash?....It just seems to do it on a global basis and not to a specific program.....Your help would be greatly appreciated.... Oh and this is the first time i have ever used the shift function for perfect straight lines when i draw with the brush tool and i did notice some freaked out vectors flying all over the place so i'm thinking maybe that would have something to do with the problem... |

I didn't have any audio in the file but i did start the 4th attempt at getting this comp going and it's been smooth sailing thus far....And I think it's because i didn't use that shift feature......Maybe I shouldn't be using it with the pressure sensitivity on because I was getting some irratic results in my line work...Oh well thanks anyways... |

I did a quick search on the macromedia forums, and some poor guy asked this question back in April but never got an answer. Here search Flash forums for 'virtual memory' and you might find something. |

Hey thanks for looking that up for me Adam.. I restarted the comp yet again but this time, I didn't use the shift function for the straight lines but you know what? I bet you it has something to do with having the pressure sensitivity turned on because i tried the same with the pressure turned off and it worked famously....I'm pretty certain that there is some kind of bug in Flash when you combine the pressure sensitivity with the shift held down...... |

well virtual memory is memory that is being used from your hard disk. It is used because you RAM is being completely used up and in order to get more your RAM borrows some memory from your hard disk. The file that the memory is used is called the PAGEFILE umm so all of your pagefile's capacity is used up and it is removing the stuff from it. Flash is taking a huge chunk out of your memory; always restart your computer umm there is more but i cant remember but windows clears the memory for you I played a great mmorpg or something and it used my virtual memory |

Yeah i know what virtual memory is...I actually found the temp folder that has the virtual memory on my hard disk.....In my research on the subject, I didn't happen to see a section that says that it was safe to delete those files in that folder......Do you know if that's a safe thing to do? cause the file itself eats about a GB of hard disk space and I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing to leave these files in there.....Will some of my programs not work if I do that? |

If it's a bug it sure sounds like a crazy one. I hate it when something just refuses to work and you don't seem to be able to solve it. It sounds like you've worked things out, so that good
looking forward to seeing your entry, I'm having a go at one too, hopefully fit it in with my University work.

One thing to speed up your computer with the virtual memory is to set the minimum and the maximum size to about 2-3 times the amount of RAM you have installed. That way Windows doesn't have to keep adjusting the pagefile and prevents file fragmentation. |
