You have to motion tween the alpha setting on a symbol. http://hiylea.com/alphatween.fla I made this file for you to try and show you what I mean, easier then describing. |

I, too am wondering how to create a fade effect... without going to each individual frame and lowering/raising a few percentages.
When I downloaded that movie you made it said [Unexpected file format] then closed! |

Which version of Flash do you use? It may be that I'm using Flash 5 and you're using MX perhaps? |

Ok, just creat a symbol have it at either 100% apha or 0% alpha. place like 20 frames or how ever much. then palce a keyframe then change the symbol's alpha to either 100 or 0 and tween it ( motion tween ) that should work, im me if you need help. |

Artist? Maybe? Please?

On the first keyframe of a tween, have a symbol at 100% opacity. Then on the last keyframe of the tween, set it to 0% or however much you want. It's the same thing in either version of Flash. |

Still no dice... The symbol doesn't respond to me editing it's opacity (or alpha). When I set it to zero anyways, the fill of the symbol stays the same.

Do you have a tween there. This is one of the most basic things in Flash.....it shouldn't be a glitch. |

Yep... Didn't forget the tween. I've tried it nearly a dozen times, starting over with brand new slates every time. <_< |

I got it! Seems flash 5 requires a bit more fooling around with than the newer versions. <_< Thanks, Thirstyforchicken! I'm thinking of all the hours I've wasted manually editing each keyframe for my fade effects, changing the alpha by 3-5% on each one from fade to finish.
