where are the alpha and the other setting like that? i cant seem to find them anywhere! :o

It's in the color mixer section. Right above the swatches.

uum... swatches? im such a newb!!! i cant find them in the color mixer! is the color mixer the thing that pops up when you click and the little paint brush and paint can to change the colors?

The thing on the right. There's a gray bar above it that says "Color Mixer."

If you want to change the alph of a symbol (graphic, movie clip etc) then use the properties window. Under color you chose alpha, or advanced - allows you to change the tint and the alpha (of the selected symbol)
