When I save my preloaders, they save as 6-7MB!! Anyone know why!?!? and/or how I can make it smaller?

whoa.. just the preloader? I presume you mean the FLA, not the SWF?

I've no idea why even the FLA would be that big for a preloader, unless you got lots of sound effects, graphics... video perhaps? :gasp:

Maybe there was a sound file or something in there at one time which has since been deleted. Go to the FILE menu and select SAVE AND COMPACT and see if that reduces the file size. I usually do that after deleting large symbols and audio from the library.

Otherwise, try to copy the preloader objects/symbols to another NEW flash document (FLA).

back when I was making the hitchHiker trailer, I duplicated the entire movie and then started removing the scenes I didn't want. I didn't add any new sounds, graphics or animation... just removed them.

Now when it came time to save the FLA, you'd think that after removing all that stuff, the file-size would be smaller, right? Well it wasn't. The actual movie was about 1/3 playing time of the original, yet the FLA was the same size.

I couldn't understand why, so as a test, I removed every scene in the entire movie except one. File size was still over 80Mb.

What you can do to make sure this doesn't happen, is to remove all the elements from the library that you don't need. To do this, open the library (F11), click on its panel menu and choose 'Select Unused Items'. Everything in your entire library that isn't being used in the movie, will be highlighted. Press delete to remove them.

Anyway, it turned out that wasn't the problem with mine, so I did what FhqwhgadsE2TL said, and that was to simply copy paste the stuff I wanted into a new FLA.. which fixed the problem and the file-size was reasonable.

Adam, did you try SAVE AND COMPACT from the FILE menu? I think Flash should do this automatically... not sure why it wouldn't.

Ahh, IC.. but why not just save and compact every time? It doesn't seem to take much longer than a regular save.

I've tried SAVE AND COPACT and i've deleted un-used things in the library and i've tried to copy them into a new FLA file, but none of them work :(

Ok, zip it up and email to me... I will definitely look at it. There's got to be a reason there somewhere.

Sending you it now, I managed to compress it to 2.95MB but I did also have to click on 'best' (in the compression options :D)
