Okay, here's mine for the day. Combined todays sketch with the short I'm currently working on for my Senior Project (so, that's how I rationalised spending 2 hours on it, instead of doing real work!). It's a color swatch of Goo.
Go here to see the related art and premise.
This Picture Contains Nudity
BTW, everyone's stuff is looking great. But, my fav recent is WelshPixie's first eye, fantastic. :bing:

Is nudity banned? I figured since we talk about art/animation etc, nudes wouldn't be a deal. I mean, I can understand an objection to out right porn, but a plain ol breast never hurt anyone. :bing:

Just checked rules, I think I'm ok. Unless someone thinks this is pornograghy. Maybe some kind of kinky aquatic sea creature fetish. I dunno.

Erm... I would like it if instead of showing the images, just posting a link to them and saying "Warning! Contains nudity!" if you don't mind. Some of us try to keep it in our moral standards to keep our minds clear of images like that.

It's natural! Is it morally wrong to look at a naked mole rat? I think not.

In my opinion, pornography and "artistic nude" are the exact same thing. Just because you put "artistic" in the name does not hide the fact that it is a picture of a nude humanoid.

And boundlesmatrix, they are not the same things. It is human nature to get sexually aroused when seeing a naked human-like person. When things like this could your mind, it is hard to concentrate on what you need to do. It is also addictive. Psychiatrists have done studies on the effects of pornography, and what I've said is backed up by their results.

Please note that I have not demanded removal. All I have asked for is a simple link and a simple warning so me and the many other people who dislike nudity (and those who work at places that monitor the sites they go to) can avoid looking at these images. I was kind of under the impression that Adam was trying to keep these forums under PG/PG-13 rating.

well i cudn't give a shite, but maybe is shud be linked who knows..

i've never been one for senseless nude.it annoys me,althought its an excellent pic.

as for natural....fish don't have breasts.*or legs or arms for that matter* so the whole piece is un-natural if u think about it hehehe.

there was a debate on deviantart about *artistic nude* thousands of submissions where showing breast...then one day,a guy posted a pic of a vagina....and he was gunned *not literally gunned*down for posting *porn*

....ehm....so that left me confused, people are all yaaaaay thats very artistic, whens its breasts....but whens its a vagina its porn???? if anything a vagina is allot more artisic than breast, cos its where we all came from lol.

but even after reading those dumbass artisic nude guys,i still don't really like it.

artistic nude is basically soft porn.

sum of the replies to that art are like *man i love the way u caputured her essence*

replace the word essence with breast and thats what they are all thinking.

haha rant over.

i love the pic anyway,i'm the type of guy that rants, but doesn't really care at all hahaha.

later.

Thanks muchly!

Goo is awesome - though with her J-Lo-esque butt I doubt she'd be very aquatically streamlined for fast swimming! *grin*

Since we're on that kinda topic I'll post links to some studies of the human pose I did a while back (2002 I think?). I won't post the images directly since they're nudes ;o)

Really nice WelshPixie. The first one is interesting in that I've always wondered how wings could/would be attached to a humanoid body. Bird wings for example have bone and muscle structure not too unlike actual arms. Bug type wings otoh are completely different and when making fantastical drawings such as those of faeries it must be difficult deciding just how to draw them so they look as if they actually belong.
The last picture was my favourite. The proportions, smooth flowing lines and sense of depth makes for a very well done image.

Too bad there's such a flap suddenly about nudes and porn (when did those two words become interchangeable???)

Humbleego I thought your "fish lady" was great! Made me laugh actually and I was a little confused when objections were raised... if that is in any way porn then I guess the men in speedos posted way early in this thread would be hard core.

In my opinion, pornography and "artistic nude" are the exact same thing.  Just because you put "artistic" in the name does not hide the fact that it is a picture of a nude humanoid.

Well, we obviously have very different ideas about this subject. But, since this is a community where we should respect one another's views. I've edited the post for you and will treat any further questionable posts as you've asked.

Please forgive me though, as since this topic is being discussed, for sharing my thoughts with you. Pornography and an Artistic Nude can be considered synonyms, but only because the definitions of those words vary drastically from person to person. I hate to be cliché, but art really is in the eye of the beholder. Someone can rub feces on a wall and it can be called art (literally). I personally don't object to such things, but I don't also don't care to look at them either.

That being said, I feel there is a great problem with defining the nude human form, by it self, as pornography. In all my nude drawing classes, I can honestly say that sexual thoughts never entered my mind while drawing nudes. (Though this may be because most of the models were old homeless people) You develop a way of looking at a nude as form rather than a person. Much like you might draw a landscape.

I feel that the attitude of nude=porn is helping to demonize sexuality further than it already is today (at least in America, I'm not sure where you all hail from). If we continue to allow this, then even personal beautiful sexual experiences with your life mate will be tainted. I mean, does that mean there's something wrong with a naked baby when it's first pulled from the womb? Is that then pornography? I know that's an extreme example, but that's essentially when that idea boils down to.

Anyway, sorry to rant, just another pet peeve of mine. Here's my post of today (contains nudity)
Old Sketches

BTW, Markham, I did notice that you didn't report it and handled your objection very well and I appreciate that.

Nice sketches. I haven't done contour drawing in a loong while although I really enjoyed it when we were "forced" into it in class. Well done!

Yeh, the porno dilemma can be a bit problematic in a forum that deals with art particularly since, as you say, art is in the eye of the beholder. I just find it sad when nakedness is automatically associated with pornography. :(

But this thread isn't about debating moral viewpoints and since it's important that we all get along and feel comfortable with what comes up on our screens then I guess I can respect that too.

Hmmm, two posts for me today and nary a sketch! I'd better get with it!

Being a huge total art fan and student im obligated to love the artistic nude, theres nothing wrong with the human body. If u were drawing pornographic content of sex or whatnot i can understand how one would feel uncomfortable. But underneath your clothes is the body you have, you should not feel ashamed of it. But i guess thats just me.

i should also add what one of my good professors said

nude=the human body being viewed purely as a form, to be proud of the human nature and the way its built

naked= is indecent, the kind of thing that people are ashamed of, the kind of nightmare you have when you end up at school and forgot you clothes kind of thing.

I am not trying to insult anyone about what i just wrote, this is just purely my opinion. ^____^
