well, twas my first week of col-erase nonphoto blue pancils and i must say that for only drawing when something's not going on in school, i am very pleased with the resullt :)

anyways, this started out as just a simple box image, and i kept adding and adding and adding. It was a very fun piece to make and i'm looking forward to drawing more with them  anyways, feel free to criticize all you'd like (because i'm still just learning about these pencils) :D Posted Image

oh and btw ignore the black dot, that happened som random time during the past week, i can't find out who did it..

Lol Bussman sounds like you're making me sound like accusing Tordeck of copying Adam (or am I just paranoid this morning? :P) I wasn't saying you'd copied Adam Tordeck, I'm just saying we've all learnt alot from him :)

all in the waist, think of it like this, the leg with the most weight on it,in this case, his left, well be one swift curve from the chest down...the line that represents the leg with less weight on will break at the waist.

heres a quicky i did.

and in that other pic,the guy trying lift that ball,it looks as if he is humping the ball rather than lifting it.

weight is real simple, after a few life drawing lessons, about 4 or 5 classes,it becomes more apparent.

I still don't agree with u joining that *drawing school* thing,a few regular cheap 5 dollar life classes will give you all the knowledge u need, but its your money :P

Thanx again Noob=)
oh yeah, that guy isnt supposed to be lifting something. he's humping an american pie  man, that was a horrible drawing. I see it now ^^

One of the reasons im going to that 5 months drawingschool is becasue its in the same area as the character animationschool. That way I can see how the animation students are doing, and allready have one foot inside that school before I apply for the character animation degree. And we do lifedrawings everyday+ all those other drawing lessons aswell there for 5 days a week. And there are no drawingclasses in the city where I live anyway. And hey, its a school where we do nothing but drawing! Cant wait to start that damn thing :bing:

oh i see,i guess u don't have a choice then.

its just that i see you *life* drawing from photos, and drawin from photos is not that good.

They are good for *anatomy studies* but not that good for actually improving the way you draw.

but i think u got drawing down anyway,u know how to draw, but u don't know hot to DRAW!!,get what i mean? haha, its difficult to explain.

anyway keep at it com.post mores!!!

u'll probably be working at brackenwood enterainment in the near future anyway.

Hey NOOB,Why is life studies so far superior to just from pictures? Is it because you can see the object your drawing more fully?I guess it's a bit of a vague question.Hope you understand what i'm asking.

Thats one of the reasons yeh,we as humans have two eyes, just hold your hand up,and close one eye, then open it,close it again,u see it from different angles just by closing and shutting one eye.

A camera only has one *eye*,and no real sense of depth, and things will appear distorted in a picture, especially when working with foreshortening.

Read Andrew Loomis book *figure drawing for all its worth* which has more on that theory

also, life drawing classes have quick 2-5min gestures usaully at the start, this teaches u to draw faster, and draw whats important first.with photos u can cheat and start anywhere,go to lunch, have a coffee, then come back to it.

when your in a life drawing class, surrounded by other talented ones,u don't got no time for coffee, cos if u don't finish that 2 min gesture your just gunna look like an ass, thus, another thing life drawing gives you is motivation

.....................

And trust me,artists can just tell when something has been drawn from a photo, just like u can tell an animation has been rotoscoped.

post edit: but there ain't nothing wrong with drawing from photos, its still good practice, don't let me discourage you lol

I see,Yeah the one thing that hits me the worst is foreshortening.I do most of my stuff off on pics when i do have referances.I really want to improve on my foreshortening.

Does my stuff look THAT 2d?lol I'm not sure what my strongpoint is at drawing, but i have spenty of weakpoints.

btw:some of the coolest animation i've ever seen was rotoscoped :P That old animation with Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta.

I think i understand what you're saying though. It's really hard to draw a picture with a real feeling of depth when it's off of a picture.

yeh i got loads of weak points too.

1.Foreshortening
2.Hands and feet
3.Drawing the human back
4.Facial issues

the list could go on but those are the 4 i'm trying to improve at the moment.

Yeah Foreshortening will be the death of us all  Faces are hard but a welcome challenge to me.As much as ya study human structure though, when you draw a real persons face you realize that some of that goes out the window because peoples faces are only SO symetrical. Some people do have wierd lips and eyes that aren't the same or too close or far apart from eachother. You only get so much out of a book and the rest ya gotta learn from real life.

Well time to take your advice and look for something to draw that ISN'T 2d.

I might not post anything for a bit, being a sucky real life artist haha.btw, any concept sketches for us this week,or had any time to work on your movie?

i hardly got anytime this week with all this stupid christmas preparation.

i'm trying my best to get allotta stuff done by next weekend, this week is my last week at college b4 christmas holidays, and everything is due friday

:gasp:

but did do allot unfinshed stuff this week

i started sketches of my character Mathilda in flash which has been in design for years, shes in my avatar too *thats from ages ago though*

<img src='http://www.animationforum.net/users/noob/images/mathilda rough.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'>

and i was working on Worsow this week aswell, obviously not finished

Posted Image

and heres a background i was workin on for my movie,it started out as a rough sketch, but then i wanted to develop more stylized backgrounds,so i kept it rough and added some colour,i might tighten it up a bit more, but maybe i will just leave it lol.

Posted Image

i'll update with more refined stuff when i get the chance..

O,Cool that's the first i've seen on that creatures body.I just saw the shoulder up picture
with the cool lighting on it.He kinda looks like Venom from the comics and the face looks like the main thingy on Neon Genesis Evangelion. The upper structure of him looks really cool, but the legs don't fit..something about em.From your other pic he looks like a very intense character.Maybe make the legs look like a body builders.Ya know really(almost overly) defined muscle structure would fit better. The legs in the center look more like a runners.I like the thick torso of the left pick.but then again it all depends of the personality of your character, and only you know that best.

Gaa,i'm nit-picking sry it's just a sketch.

You could also go with a less human bone structure to make him look more unique,What about something to do with the feet or hands.I know it sounds typical of me but maybe look at primates hands and feet for ideas.I think the distance that is set apart from the thumbs and fingers would fit well on this character.I think an overly exposed spine structure would look well if you could pull it off inbetween all the muscles.

yeh i want him to be strong but agile aswell,so i don't want chunky body built legs, and i don't want him to lookin too human.

but yeh u caught like 5 mins into the sketch, theres mega improvements i could do

every character looks like another lol,its diffucult to create something original these days.
right now i'm prefering the more agile middle one than the built first one,but i guess i just need more opinions....

don't be afriad to crit ol' noob lol.

edit: the less human bone structure idea is brilliant :gasp: *i'm on it*

Yeah i think that the agile build would be more interesting.I think it's stance will really be the selling point to it looking unique, and the way it moves.I mean it'll really portray alot of it's character.

sry, hard for me to critique people better than me at art.Only reason i did was cause 2 heads are better than one,lol
