so last night i saw king kong (OMG EPIC!)

there's a part where jack black laments
"there is only one thing out there capable of this"
and my friend nick turns to me and says "Roseanne"

So I lost my mind... and illustrated it

I may finish this... think i should go with traditional inking or digital?
also, what the crud should i do with the background?

Since I'm not very good at lighting or color yet, I decided to tackle both at once at do some skyscapes. I did both together in about three hours, with my mouse, with reference.

Awesome as always, but theres somethingabout that Tyrannosaurus' left leg that makes me jump out of my chair and on to the backrest, beat my chest and scream "I'am king, and the king sez fix leg"... :D

As for the background... hmmm, jun-gle-l... :(

Great picture Alexandria  ! I love the way you did the T-rex head.
I think it would be nice if you finished it digitaly, and make the background in photoshop\painter without any outlines. Or maby make the background in vector, but withouth outlines aswell.

Wow! awesome skyscapes Riannon! I especially like the picture below.
But the colour is great on the top picture aswell. Great stuff

:bfoot:

EDIT:

here's a quick sketch for a "wild west" thread

 Thanks for the kind words everyone. In all seriousness, I basically copied the references, and there are several things (like depth) that still need to be worked on. They were just to get a sense of the mechanics and lighting for clouds.

Here's one reference:

My god... :gasp:

It's amazing the stuff you guys have put out in just four days. :o

-Neonakis, your drawings are hilarious as usual! I think you could have either them at the base of a cliff or in some tight-quarters cityscape... Somewhere where Rosie could munch on a bus full of people. ;)

-Comlock, your western stuff is prime! The middle fellow and the horse are my favorites... but where is the villain? I'd love to see your take on a villainous-looking horse... :bing:

-That guy looks like Frankie, Conger! I like his crazy eyes! His forehead looks a little narrow above his eye, but that's all I can spot. Post more soon, eh?

-Good sense of contrast in your hand, Catalist, the shading goes well. I'd give the thumb a little more muscle around the bottom side to make it a little more formidable looking. Good piece!

No reference this time, and it shows. <_< The clouds came out looking like smog because I didn't make them pink and light enough. Oh well.

Awesome sky and mountains. Though, you could put a little more effort into the ground. Seriously, its an awesome pic, but the slopy ground just ruins it.

I think the clouds looks even more awesome in this pic! Exelent colours!
Cel, I only think she focused on the sky, and painted in the ground roughly just to have some matching coloured foreground included. But yeah, If you finished the ground or maby removed it than you'll have a kick ass painting!

You should be proud bing:

Super sweet Anghenfil... Im really digging that color pallette... Did you sample from the reference pic? Because the colours are dead on... Just curious about your processes.

On the first two I did, yes. On this most recent one, I didn't. The whole point eventually is to be able to paint these sorts of things on the fly, so it's important to learn through mistakes what sort of color, texture, and arrangements to use.

Cel, I completely understand your sentiment, but these are just quick exercises and often incomplete. If I thought they were complete pieces, I wouldn't be putting them in this thread. ;)

I used the smudger to finnish it up a bit. That's a freehand drawing. I like it when I see it at first. But after looking too long it tends to look....not quite wright. The funny thing is. i'm not colorblind, yet I can't, CAN'T draw in color. It never turns out right.

That looks pretty good Catalist, but yeah the thumb is off.If the hand is bend away from your point of view, then the wrist is way too low.But if the hand is supposed to be straight then you drew the thumb too high. The rest of it is fine though.

EDIT:The clouds are awesome still. They look like cotton candy, makes me want some.
