It could be "mouse + illustrator" ;)

Looks nice as always Alex, but her left shoulder kinda looks messed up in the cleaned up version. The shape of the hair at the end looks more like her shoulder. (maby you were going to fix it anyway)

I hope your dog is ok Jubjub=) It looks realy realy dead in that pose :o

Hehe, hey then it would have a little of everything for people.

BTW i was just checking out David Hartman's site to see what new monster pictures he had done lately. And i noticed that he had done some short episodes called Adventurous Und Magik Haus.......And watched em............there's 3 of em,if you haven't seen em,and tou're bored might as well check em out HEREall i could say to describe these is WHAT THE F%$!.The characters are a mime with a nazi in his stomache a 7 foot tall one-eyed alien, and a samurai wielding girl scout with a screwdriver for an arm(played by david himself)among other insane wtf characters.Check em out but don't get mad at me if you actually sat thru all 3,hehehe

I'm a bit out of practice, but this is what I whipped up quick to get back into the swing of things:

Let me know if you find the picture to be too big. I'll just link it if it is.

I like the style Jem, for some reason it reminded me of Max Payne instead of Sin City. :D

C&C, his missing a thumb on the hand hold the gun. :gasp:

matt you already heard what i said on msn, but to make u feel special, Its so Butiful!!!

Kiwi: Im loving the detail put into that little energy blast of yours, quite nice if i might add. But there are a couple of things that you need to fix, mainly in proportions, such as his hands too big for that size arm, and his head seems a little too big for that size torso. Other than that, the background goes along nicely as well!

He has a thumb, it's just behind the gun. Jeez, isn't it obvious?
Okay, you caught me. I must have forgotten to add it to the clean version, but I know it was in my sketch.

And it does sort of look like Max Payne, but it and Sin City (the book) have very similar Noire styles. And if people don't know why the hell he referenced sin city, it's because it's in the file name.

KiWi: Quite a nice painting you got there. Maybe you could clean up the brush stroles so that they're more seamless, and have the fireball projecting some light onto his shield. Other than that, you mostly need to work on how his body is put together. It looks like his head is sprouting from his chest instead of being supported by a vertical neck.

Good job.

Hey Jemooky, awesome drawing there. I'm going to second the thumb just to harass you. :P

I'm also going to come down on you really hard on the stiffness of the whole piece. He looks like a plank; there's no curve in his spine AT ALL and his weight is dead-center. Look at Neo's Succubus: Although it's a static pose, she's worked a lot of rhythm into the back and legs to give it more energy.

Love the style, love how his legs get lost in the background. I don't like how the pipe gets lost in the leg, however, because it's an important detail in the piece. The end part of it is also tangent with the inner part of his leg, which is a no-no.

Great stuff. :wbitey:

Anghenfil-Why is it a no-no,i'm new to the whole tangents  .Does it make it less fluid and create a sorta block area to the whole picture?Or am i WAY off on this one?

Tangent lines create ambiguity in the piece. The viewer will tend to get caught up in "okay... does that line belong to that object or that other one?" Best to offset stuff slightly, because on top of getting rid of the ambiguity, it increases the perception of depth in the picture. :)

Compare. I've highlighted all the tangent lines in the artistic abortion on the left in red. It's almost hard to tell what it is, it's so difficult to read. The thing on the right is the same creature, mostly same proportions, but lacking most tangencies. It's magic, boys and girls! Hooray!

Jemooky: The best way to automatically improve your line of action is to try and draw characters in motion: Running, jumping, etc. That said, you can still get really nice line of action in sitting and standing poses by emphasizing the curve in the spine, shifting weight, and strengthening the action through gestures. Line of action can be quite subtle and still be effective, but if you're just learning about it, go all-out with it.

Hey, thanks a lot Ri! :)
All your points are very valid. I'll admit that almost no planning went into this piece. I drew each part individually, when I'd normally draw the figure as a whole. I think that's part of what makes it stiff.
Would you happen to have any links to ressources that would help me draw my figures in more dynamic poses?

As for the pipe: It probably wasn't a good idea to make it intersect with the leg, but I was excited to try intersecting the white area (it was white before I added the red, of course) of the pipe with the solid black area of his legs, without adding outlines. Maybe it didn't work so well, but now I know what to avoid.
Thanks again.
