I decided to colour some of my old sketches... Here's a few.

I hate the way it's so flat, but here you go anyway -

Mr. Comlock, your idea of action just by tilting the camera is lovely. I really need to push that deeper into my stuff. It's all... flat when I do it X3

And Neonakis, I love your stuff, I always have.. you knows it :o
NINJA NUNCHUCK BEAVERS.

Anyway *coughs*

For your next piece, I want you to do something super high-contrast; your stuff always tends to be light, and you ought to have something under your belt that allows some bredth. Push your shadows. Push 'til it hurts.

but for heaven's sake! DON'T push so it's shiny black!!! doesn't work...I've done it and it looked.....blahfromageyuformiggen :gasp: :gasp: :gasp:

Hehe,i don't know if that's a good thing or not if i've influenced someone's art  .

Oh,here's my sketch for the day,i tried to shade dark, but to get darker i need to get a softer grade lead.I dunno if i'm getting better or not at shading darker.I think it'll take me a while.I'll have to study lighting more to shade more and have it look good.
Posted Image
I ended up smearing lead all over the paper too because i forgot to use a glossy peice of paper under my palm so it wouldn't smear when i put my hand on it,but i liked the way it ended up.Made it look old and like it had been handled alot.

Definatly better, keep this up.
Basically crisscrossing often helps darkening an area, it also helps shading with the tip 90° on the paper but don't draw too heavy or you'll get insets into your paper.

Don't mind the smudging too much, it grows on you ^^

Actually, try to keep you pencil about 30° or lower on your paper (the side of your lead should get a bit blunt so it shades smoother), zigzag in the overall darks. Then use your fingers and smudge it out untill it's very smooth (or use a smudge stick if you have one :P). Use a piece of kneaded eraser to get rid of the excess greys and erase out some highlights (try dipping it). Might repeat this step once or twice. Then just take your pencil and reënforce the lines and details a bit and do the aditional shadng.

By all means not "the" way, just fun messing around with the graphite.

I haven't used crosscrossing or croshatching(or whatever ya wanna call em) that much. But it is alot easier to get my shading dark,i'll try that from now on more often. Before when i did shade dark i would get those little insets in the paper and the paper would look wavy were i shaded dark(looked like crap). It tried using a thicker stock paper just incase i ran intothat proplem, and it's 70lb..I usually use 50lb.

As far as keping my pencil at differant angles to get differant lines,i couldn't really do it much cause i did this with a mechanical pencil  .

And i need to get a smudge stick and a kneaded eraser(i don't have either at the moment)I like using hard sharp erasers sometimes to erase highlights sometimes,i think it looks cool.

Thanks for the advice and tips and all that stuff rubberhead,i'll try to keep it up.

NOOB!-hehe,it does look evil huh.....it was a cougar skull that was on my bookcase,i decided to put it on my desk and try to draw it.I goofed alot of proportions all up though.HEY! how's the animation coming along,or are you still working on that? Please don't leave, post more!!!! :gasp: B)

Actually it also works mechanicals. I'm using a Pentel 0.3 with HB lead atm and it seems to work pretty well. The effect isn't as much as with a regular pencil, but it' still better then using the tip for shading. Downside is that the tip easily breaks this way.

Great picture, jubs! The angle seems off between the orbital bones and the jaw, but other than that it looks beautiful.

Now... color! :P

Hehe,i like the over-dramatic pose of the first guy there  .

You're right,i see what ya mean with the pig guy,the way you drew it makes the snout very short, and the right tusk is misplaced, ehh,it still looks good though.I especially like the depth you gave with the shading around that left eye,and that bottom lip.I loved the video with it too, that's amazing to get to actually se you draw it.You should post more of those videos man!I hope you add lots of stuff like that on your site :bing:

Great video, Comlock. I could watch vids of pros drawing/painting all day. I always learn something new. I didn't hear any sound. Was there any?

And you sure know your way around Sketchbook. I'd never heard of the program till coming to B'wood. Are there specific advantages over PS or Painter?

Let us know if you plan to post (or have already posted) more of those videos. Or even if you know where people are doing that regularly.

Just found this tutorial on the same site Anghenfil linked to on pg 173 of this thread. It has good comparisons between PS, Painter and Sketchbook.

Well Im thinking up ways on making certain character feature's. You know, the whole vampire thing and werewolf. Im sticking with certain ones for the different species, colors to use for expressing different emotion. You know wat I mean, I guess?

Well maybe I can make it better, but how? Thats really wat im asking.
Well any way comment if you want. Just point out wat you like and or hate, or how I can make it more better.

Edit: I forgot to post the skecth, lol im sorry

not bad rade, i say work more on just roughly sketching your things man, like you see how commie did here:

Posted Image

Just try and roughly box/(get general idea where they go) in the shapes and then once you kno where everything is, you can easily go back and add the darker lines.

So try using the pencil tool a bunch when your drawing, and also try some traditional drawing! Its helping me a lot to circle around the main parts, (because my wacom is small its really squiggly)

Thanx^^ (pro.. )
I like sketchbook pro better than photoshop, becasue the pencil simulator is just so darn amazing. I also like the airbrush tool. Its so much faster and responsive.
The program is very light too. It loads in as fast as MS paint. But when painting bigger images (2500x2500 and above) with lots of layers photoshop is better, becasue thats the only time Sketchbook pro slows down.

I did make a couple of other videos hidden around in this forum somewhere.
Two of the videos are on my homepage www.comlock.net in the "tutorial"
(Looking at those videos now, I am "this" close to delete them from my server)

No, there is no sound just to save MB's. Besides. what should I say?
then I draw a line here, a curve there, a line there..^^
