Nice pup, jubs. You've still got issues with the humanoid arms and legs; I'd do a more detailed write-up but I haven't slept in two days as it is. So I'll be brief now, but try to follow up this weekend.

For a more "typical" quadraped, address the following:

-Shoulders are better, but still look too rounded. In most quadrapeds, the shoulder blades are on the sides of the ribcage; yours look halfway between human and four-legged. Find a short-haired cat or a short-haired dog (greyhounds are good) and study the shoulder mass. It's a rather flat piece of anatomy.

-General rule for quadrapeds are shorter femur/humerous and longer ankles/wrists. Entend the ankles and get the elbow and knee closer to the body.

-Make the torso longer; right now your legs are longer than the body itself, which is rather rare for quadrapeds. Usually the legs are equal to (deer, horses, canines) or smaller than the body length (cows, cats, bears, weasels). The onyl two groups I can think of where the legs and significantly longer are camels and giraffes. Hares probably count too.

All this is assuming you're going for a more standard quadraped. It's a very cool drawing by itself, so feel free to disregard me. :P

As for the pic itself its a bit hard to make out. u got a bigger pic dude?

to jub jub: all that needs to be said has been said, so no real crits from me apart from maybe the right hind leg's ankle area seems a little thin (furtherest from the viewer), looks weaker than the lefts. and i wud agree that the legs shufd be bent more and shoulder blades more exaggerated.

Hehe, dang!Back to the drawing board.I'm going to try to find some referance dog pictures online. My dog does NOT sit still at all, that and she's kind fuzzy and all black(difficult to see and muscles)After i get it close i want to try to learn other quadraped poses like running and sitting and stuff llike that. Thanks for the critiques,i'll try to put out a better picture when i get a chance,A more realistic head on em' too next time.I'm still VERY new to learning lighting too so i draw lighting and shadows like a little kid right now.So i'm working on that too.I'll get there eventually,i'm just a little slower than most people  .

EDIT- some quickies:Posted ImagePosted Image
The dog head was somewhat referanced,Sorry they're not more detailed but they're quite small pictures  . (sidenote)Just trying to keep it a DAILY sketch thread  .

those are nice designs, but they dont really look like swords. that's one of the reasons i didnt like playing FFX. it seemed like i was beating monsters with a work of art, not a sword.

if you'll notice, the weapons all look/function differently based on their faction. the tribal weapons simple, but they are made to kill. the tribes have limited resources and cant waste time on beauty. everything they make has only the necessary materials, and is built to serve a purpose that will prove usefull. the kingdom weapons are more artistic because, obviously, the kingdom has smiths and more resources to spare, and the weapons seem more suitable for showing off. for the tribes, it's most likely that the one who uses the weapon was the one who made it, and getting another one would be most difficult, no matter how simple it is.

Well, those are some really awesome sketches man!!!

I love the shading excercise you put in there!

I drew a copy of a comic by Thomas Nast today, (a cartoonist around Civil War times) I was in AP US just sittin there on the computer, showing my friends how to get around the blocks using a proxy when i showed one my site and he was like damn! I never knew u drew (because most people dont) and he was like draw something right now, so I plopped open my book, and bam this is what came out of it! (better if viewed farther away i think):

(keep in mind 15 mins, blue ink pen, computer paper, flat computer desk)

Hmm?

Nice, nice :)
But as longa s you're copying from a book, you may as well try to emulate his shading style as well. The artist uses a lot of crosshatching that gives the subjects depth, which you seem to be lacking to some degree. Remember, make the lines of the cross-hatch closer together where it is darker, and gradually pull them apart.

keep up the good work.

Cool picture Bussman,it's kinda.....disturbing ;) .You shoulda crosshatched behind em' like in the picture, but being at school i'm sure there were time restraints.I think it's groovy  Haha, looks like a Tool cd cover or something.

Thanks Tim and Matt . . . I was trying to apply that cross hatching technique but I guess it didnt turn out too well. Oh well, there is always next time, and I plan on doing some more of his cartoons, they actaully have a nice meaning sometimes.

*Edit, yea I would do that jubjub, but i wouldnt want to mess it up now. Thanks though, its always good to hear praise from people better than you! Oohhh btw, im going to work on that drawing for ya**

*looks around* you talking to me? hehe.

I wouldn't say i was better at all,i just have a differant style.Of course i have a differant perception than other people of what makes a person ''good'' at art.I can't draw the things that i picture i my head at all so..i think i suck basically at art.

I don't really get why you keep putting yourself down Jubjub. Technically you're one of the best drawers on the forum.

Maybe you should just loosen up and do some doodling, throw all the rules you know out and just draw what comes to your mind (no shading, no perspective grids, no guide sketches etc), no matter how stupid it may seem, draw it quickly (less than a minute) and move on to the next thing*, after a few more pages you might begin to like some of the stuff you're drawing.

*(if you don't draw that drawing, it will most likely haunt you for pages to come, just get it on the paper and move on, even if it is a picture of mrs Thatcher on the lavvie).

You could always re-draw some of the doodles you liked best, re-applying the rules and compare them to the original doodle.

Or just ignore me :bing:

BTW Bussman, your drawing skills are improving, looking forward to seeing some originals by you !

PS, I'm going to be submitting some sketches and doodles to this thread in the next day. (yeah, I realise I haven't submitted many recently...)

peas out!

but seriously, ITS ANATOMY! not.. porn or anything villageidiot. Anatomy is a fatal part of drawing. If you ask me, there is no need for a link.
