Here's a life sketch i did today while on the coach.I didn't time how long it took,i dunno i was goofing off most of the time, maybe a half hour or so.I didn't use any construction lines or anything like that,i just drew it.I have NO experience doing life drawing so i figured i'd start.

Zhenmuron, your creatures remind me of the stupid, stupid, rat creatures from Bone! It's hard to tell if the upper part of the eye is the eyeball or the lid--- but either way they're still funny. :)

Jubjub, your idea of armies behind her is good!-- I think it'd look great if you drew two opposing armies converging in the middle of the picture, just behind her. Not as if the armies were literally behind her, though. (if you catch my drift) Perhaps as if converging in her mind. Just my cents. :sage:
Also, that's a damn good life picture for your first stab! Lines on the furniture are nice and straight. :bing:

Here's a piece I reworked today... Added more contrast and shading... trying to define the light source. :yfok:

Hehe, relax villageidiot. It's just a sketch.I was having fun.I've never taken an art class outside of highschool nor have i had anyone give me any tips or teaching about art.I wouldn't even begin to know where to put a terminator in a picture or use chiaroscuro. If i didn't have a search engine i wouldn't even know what those words mean in art terms.

I'm not sure if you were just trying to make fun of me learning to draw, but if not, maybe you could show me an example or referance of terminators and using chiaroscuro.

SURE!....I'd love to  ...no I wasn't trying to make fun of you trying to learn to draw....but I'll sketch up some stuff and show you what I mean by those things, (you art is definately beyond the level you say you're at...i would suggest takin some lessons from a professional to get even BETTER....and to learn how to pull out the contrast in your pictures....)

Link to chiaroscuro explanation.

Link to terminator and umbra-area....Link thanks to Anghenfil!!

Examples of chiaroscuro, aslo called modeling, look at the eggs to see the best examples...

A terminator is the darkest part of the object, between where the light has reflected off the ground (which it almost always will) and from the direct light source...

I'm working on joining a few classes in town.I know some local artists and they recommended a few that would help me out.I just gotta save some extra money.Till then i gotta do with advice and critiques from what i do now.I think i got a basic idea of a terminator, but an example or referance somewhere showing me would work better :P.

Being as that i never took any classes i most likely learned alot of things backwards, and skipped a few techniques that would drastically help me to improve. And missed out on alot of common or basic terms and all that.

I don't let it bother me too much,it's all for fun mostly, maybe when i get good enough in my mind i'll make some money off drawing portraits or gallery stuff. Not much competition around here, all people draw are seagulls and boats.Young people don't have anything that they like to look at in the galleries.(It's mostly a rich artsy old folks town here).

hahaha....funny...you live by the sea i suppose?...I would love to live close enough to somewhere that has seagulls and boats that are actually used....all the boats at the lake here just sit there all day everyday.... <_< ...so boring....but check my post i threw in the links and a few examples :) ....

It's not really life drawing unless you're drawing it from life. The impression I got is that you drew this in the coach, I'm assuming unless this is what the inside of your coach looks like, that you were using a photo. Photos are a secondary source, primary would be if you were sitting there and drawing it in person while your wife was playing on her video game. Only primary sources could be considerd from life.

I dunno, maybe I got confused by what you said.

hmmm, i think Jubby meant while his wife was playing the game, he drew her

and wouldnt that be considered life drawing? I mean sure she knew he was sketching her (which shouldnt be the case sometimes in figure studies) but he was still looking at a physical being to which he had to figure out depth and what not from what he saw.

...hehe,it wasn't off a photo.Should i have called it something else?idunno the terms that well...believe me,once that controller was in her hand she DIDN'T know i was there if that counts for somethin',haha. It was all i had at the time, it was raining outside and dark,I'd like to do more so i can progress in some areas of drawing.

Villageidiot-i checked em out, thanks,i'll TRY to use what i got out of those to give my pictures more depth, but don't expect a drastic change right away, hehe,i'm slow at learning new stuff.

Haha, I get it now, you spelt "couch" wrong
I'd call it an observational drawing... life drawing is when they're naked.
Observational drawing certainly is better than drawing from photos.

I'm working on getting some sketches up here, but been ill in bed and stuff (I'm currently distracted by Flash).

Sprites are like pieces to an animation or game. When I used Macromedia Director 8.5 before I knew about Flash, every symbol was called a sprite. So any graphic in your library is a sprite.

Well, this is kinda taken off a previous drawing here. I liked the concept and wanted to try my go at it. It's not nearly as good but hey, it'll be ok. Yes, he has a bucket head and his body is kinda messed as it's mainly a sketch which I might paint in PS.

C&C please though.
