Well Jonathan,i'd say the first is a vampire(going with society stereotypes on mythical creatures, kinda means whatever i say is right cause well,...i just made it up,hehe)because vampires in general are depicted as refined creatures mimicing the upperclass-men,and that pose pretty much is what i see in the posture(even though she appears to be wearing a tube top and sweat pants
 )Aww hell, that's just my guess cause i dunno what the second chick is doin' there  . Hell man, you're like the lil' bro i never had around to torture  Kib-that looks great man,i really need to stray into learning other mediums. |

Can't you tell? She's got a swivelling torso! She can turn her upper half completely around and punch someone directly behind her! Clearly she's the werewolf, because werewolves are closely related to tazmanian devils, which have simular features. For example, Taz of Looneytunes' fame has a swiveling torso. He just spins his lower half really fast.

I dunno,i'm kinda wanting to retract my decision now cause any women i've ever dated that wore a tube top(as in the first drawing)were most definately wild like animals/werewolves...well minus all the fur. Good lord man(markham carrol)-if werewolf-women have swivveling torsos, and can just spin thier lower half really fast then there needs to be MANY.MANY,MANY,werewolf women in this world and my wife needs to turn into a werewolf NOW!

If I were a superhero, a swiveling lower torso would be my chosen super power. Beautiful cloth renderings, kib. I'm drooling at the "pooling" effect you've done on the second one, it's abolutely brilliant. Is that done on a grocery bag?

Thanks, Anghenfil!
Grocery bags! Why didn't I think of those? Nice big panels if they get home not too crumpled... I take my own bags to the shop, but I'm going to see if they have them at the local IGA. Thanks for the tip. The paper is from my framer. He wraps everything we get framed in nice big sheets that I cut up into sketch sizes. And if it's too crumpled (or I feel that crumples won't add to the drawing) it makes great drop-sheets for big paintings or under the easel. There is something about both the warm tone and the texture of that paper... so inviting to a pencil. And while it wrinkles with water/ink, it flattens nicely again under an iron set on steam. Here's another before I knew how to flatten them properly. I suppose I could go back and steam it, but I kind of like the wrinkle effect. This one is done from a photo, I'm afraid. I wanted to try out some new white ink (FW Acrylic Artists Ink by Daler-Rowney) with my nibs. ![]() kib |

Now that one is NICE! I have a question, does anybody have any good studytips when studying heads/portraits appart from the obvious "do them allot". Because my struggle with them seems everlasting.

1. Measure what you draw. Proportion out everything: How many eye-lengths is the person's head across? Where does the bottom of the nose fall in relation to everything else? That sort of thing. 2. Start very, very general. Put down lots of guide marks, do simple shapes, and double-check your measurements. It helps to have a hard-leaded pencil (I like 2H) and a good eraser. Absolutely don't start shading or going into details until you are satisfied where everything is located and proportioned. 3. Draw what you see, not what you think you see. Try to spend more time looking at your subject than the paper; your hand will learn how large to draw and how to position what you are seeing in time, and you get much more accurate results in the long run. ... Yeah, and practice. Anyone else got stuff to add on? I'm certainly not the expert in this area. |

Well, depends, but if you just supply the full resolution version, we can scale it ourselves. As is it now, it'd only fill 1/6 of my screen at work. |

Hey kids, sketch dump time! Here's a dragon. Not just ANY dragon, mind you. It has knockers. FOUR of them. ![]() Deers. ![]() Geometrically simplified deer. I reeeally like deer as of late; they have a very easy-to-draw angular sort of body, almost like a rectangle, while horses have been giving me hives with their weird ovaloid shapes. Ew. ![]() Thumbnails and poses of the Goo-like desert creature I've been toying with. Arthur's seen the prototype, but I don't think anyone else has... Anyway, I showed the original to my design teacher and she just HATED it. So I reluctantly scrapped it and have been slowly teasing the design into other shapes. Apparently the shaded one has a glowing donut for a tail. ![]() More critter faces. ![]() ------ Hey Neo, great art you've got there. I love the colors on that cephalopod sheet, and the Stalin Valentine is really clever. However, all of that stuff should probably go into the whatcha workin on? thread or the finished art thread. None of those look like sketches.

hey angel i'm all for stylization, but the fingers on the dragon are bothering me. I've seen knobbly fingers before that work (see: michaelangelo's work that rubber posted) however, your fingers are bending at angles that are impossible for even the knobbliest of bones to bend. rest of the sketches are neato. that doe needs a slightly longer nose i think. and yeah i probably should have posted the wowentines in a finished thread, but i count everything i've done in photoshop and OC as doodles because they aren't quite polished enough for my liking

It's not michealanglo's, It's Micheal Mentlers' work, his sketches just remind allot of people of Michelangelo's work. http://www.tsofa.com/ http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.ph...t=hanging+flesh *edit* Couldn't resist

Great stuff, but it feels like she should have like 6-8 nipples/breasts like a dog or pig. And not quite so full, unless she's flying over to breast feed her baby snapper. Youch! |

Good crits all around, guys. The dragon was actually inspired by Mentler's work, hence the super-extremes on the structure (especially the fingers
), great job tracing that back Rubby. I'm trying to expand beyond my overt anime-ish style so I figure it would be best to emulate people's work I admire while I'm in the process of developing.I'll take into account the need for more boobs to balance out her body. I figured the pregnant-looking belly would help round out the figure, but I guess it wasn't enough. Thanks for the advice, though I was going for Disturbing Mother Symbol more than Realistic Fantasy Critter. |

i can see the influence
however, if you look at the example posted above, the fingers, though gnarly looking, still have some normal bone structure, in fact it kind of looks like he's even drawn in the structure in the dragon's right front claw. if you look at your dragon's left claw, it's fingers are bending in an impossible way. and if you compare it to the right claw, they are unbalanced, the fingers on the left being much much longer than the fingers on the right. The only thing that mentler seems to really get freaky with is the nails, but the proper bone structure still seems to be there. |
