I think im back for good now. I took a long break from animating, and just stuck with sketchign a lot. Lately ive been inspired by a lot of things, so i thought id pick it up again. Brackenwoo has always been my home for animation, and art in general, with the acception of some specific help from NewGrounds.

Oh and the sketch is a photograph of a sketch. I dont have a scanner because im a bum. It looks practicly the same scanned ( im sure), but without the shadowy edges.

Neato....So when are you going to throw on Camtasia so we can see how you make us all look like utter shite? :o

In all seriousness that's really impressive for the time given... You're very lucky to be working at a job where your boss walks in and you don't have to minimize an application and pretend like you're doing work like I do

God bless the alt+shift+tab

Or better yet ctrl+shift+tab :bing:

"What?.... Im doing my work boss!" :P

Freakin' sweet Humbleego. I tried that random generator. I got something like a montrous minotaur lifting a bridge to unearth a trian... I gave up on it after about 30 minutes... it sucked really bad.

Today I was drawing from some old photos I took in Japan. The first are some I shot of kids in their costumes, typical street stuff. The others are from the annual Jidai-matsuri (Festival of the Ages) in Kyoto. They have a huge parade where they drag out all the traditional costumes from periods in Japan's history. Volunteers wear them and walk the streets of the ancient capital with the modern clothing first so it's like travelling back in time as you watch the parade. I was lucky enough to score a press pass that year and was able to shoot tons of photos for reference, all from the sunny side!

So you can see all my mistakes? :P
I'd have to scan them in. Perhaps tomorrow since it's almost 2 here and poppa needs a new pair of sleep.

Hey all, was wonderin' if I could get some crits on the following piece:

Posted Image

It's my old celtic Archaeology Professor, Vincent Megaw - it's his 73rd birthday soon.

I realise there's heaps wrong with it...the tux is terrible (and I need a tie!), I had trouble with the lips, the cat...basically everything. I have to post it off in the next couple of days so if anyone can give me some quick tips on how to improve it, I'd really appreciate it! :)

This is the only decent ref pic I have of him

Hey Fuzz, I slapped some adjustment layers over it in PS.

Posted Image

I decided the image in general was too bright, for a portrait anyways.
I allso added more contrast into the shading, this is something you should allways should try to push. Ideally you want to have a full range from white to black.
Allso gave it a more warm personality, and added a little shadow here and there.

Right now I would work on defining his facial structure more, it's kinda flat and a little too oval - I'dd work on the chin and cheekbones some more.
Some edges are a little too blurred aswell, I'dd work over those a bit.

PS: looks pretty good for his age :P

I think the bigger problem is the magenta BG. It's too warm, dark and saturated, so it advance more than the figure. His face ends up getting lost. Perhaps a nice light powder blue would be a better choice.

It would receed into the background and allow your boy to pop a bit as well as the cat. But, I would suggest pulling in some darker values in some areas as Rubber has suggested also.

Thanks guys!

Arrrrgh... my noobian mind just wants to lay down a vast ground of pretty colour...

I just did a quick background swap and contrast tweak

Posted Image

not sure about the blue - my brain's telling me 'more saturation!' bolder colour! For some reason I'm associating a liberal use of colour with visual impact

With the magenta I was trying to imply a kind of theatre curtain feel. A regal look, with a reddish pallet.

Thanks again rubberhead (you're dead right about the shading, I'll fix it up propper tomorrow) and of course, the redoubtable mr ego :)

Right I’m off to bed. see you on the morrow
