Try starting out with bigger brushes to do the block in. Your brushstrokes are a little messy. Also try to get more contrast.

Yay! Sketchy shite! Tell me if this thing is readable, I doubt it, but I might've been staring at it for too long...

Thanks Arthur and mark.

mark, i dont think i need to use big blocks when starting, because i allways paint more detailed with other colors later, over my "messy" small blocks lines.

but hey, i can test it sometimes! it probably goes faster with that technique, so thanks!

update!

Hope I won't get RAPED for posting all this junk at full size... if the thread get's too DL heavy just give me a sign and I'll post thumbnails.
Some more recent scrawls, etc. Considered these showable...

Boring-class-doodles, the why-aren't-you-working-? kind of stuff

Who was it again with the awesome Shakespeare quote in his sig?
Thinking making a t-shirt print of the small bird with huge hand

Sketches and thumbnails for school, normally I don't post these. But I thought these are kinda catchy... (feel free to tell they suck  )
That's just plain coloured pencil BTW, no colerase or any of that...

Hey, I don't mean to be nit-picky, but I can be a perfeectionist sometimes <_<

Anyways, that staff of its, unless it's holding it up off of the ground, is too short. The shadow of it on the ground indicates that it's touching the ground, (if the light-source is to the right..ish) so in order for the staff to not be an optical illusion, it would need to be longer. Right now, the ground piece that it's resting on (if one were to make a grid using rough vanishing points) is behind the leg that the staff is being held in front of.

Mmkay, just so i don't get too redundant, I'm gonna stop right there :)

ah, I see what you mean. I guess you're right. I've been looking myself blind on this drawing now, so im not quite shure what the viewer realy see.
I was trying to make it look like he is holding the spear at an agle, pointing slightly towards the camera. So thats why the tip of the spear touches the ground higher up than his legs.

something like this

I dont know if it worked out though...

Well his left leg (right leg from our point of view) is in front of the spear and the other leg. As if he's stepped forwards. The spear is in the right position in relationship to the back leg, AND in the right place for the idea of it being leant forward

:)
