Hello everyone, I'm new here and not an artist by trade, but wanted to share for feedback, i welcome any constructive criticism... I don't think i am qualified to criticise others work, however, i have enjoyed this thread and the wonderful work shared. I am starting to try to improve my shading...i practice by copying images/real life I just ordered a wacom tablet to start doing things digitally, so we'll see how that goes... but wanted to share some of my sketches from the last year (took picture with camera) i will be playing with the pics digitally to see what i can do with them i hope you don't mind me submitting my sketches 2B on pad of 2 sites in ireland oct. ![]() Lookdown fish sketched at Mystic aquarium , CT while watching tank with 2H ![]() Merganser - bird native to ireland, 2H on pad ![]() Orc copied from a sketch in Lord of the Rings Artwork, i'm not good at perspective, and when copying, a small mistake looks major, but this was practice on features, which is not my strongsuit ![]() Next is a quick sketch of a horse head with 4H on a pad

I'd love to see your art, but sadly none of your images are showing up for me. Are they working for anyone else? |

you shouldnt just draw the object, that makes perspetive harder, draw the shapes that make up the object and proportion should be easier |

G'day Y'all! Zwickel - looks great, i like the light reflections on the blades and eye slot. Is that a big black beard though? Zigity - Thanks for the tips, but err the waves look a bit big and rough to be lake waves. It is meant to be a shoreline and i know its never that calm, however for a freshwater lake, the only waves it would get were ripples from the wind. i was going for a sort of pond look aswell.. thanks for the tips though, i'm deffinately gunna give it another go today. any idea how much plantation there should be? or wildlife? Thanks a Bunch! byby |

Zigety, nice feedback, helping me learn as welll
Zwickel, very nice work if y'all dont' mind me sharing, i have been looking at a lot of the tutorials, found the polycarbon.com one instructive...as i said earlier, i have little experience drawing people, other than copying...so working on the shapes for perspective, and its a lot of fun... this was at work with ball point pen on copy paper, and i took a photo first body perspective, did too small, so hard on details, but more for the approach and mouths ![]() I'm kinda proud of my eye, face is ok, but eyes are a bit high and small, as is mouth, but what the hey, tis practice ![]() |

um i think what u call an "eye slot" is his headband and what u think is a "beard" is part of his hair/bangs but thats just my opinion |

Hey woot, yea, about those waves... I mostly modeled them after one of my uncle's ocean paintings. If you want to make them look more freshwater and calm that that, you should still make there be at least ripples in my opinion. I'd go and check out the photography thread (in the look at my stuff forum) for waterscapes that you can get ideas from. Hey forestal, few things I'm gonna talk to you about today. 1.) You were looking for some good referance tutorials it seems. (as well as learning how to draw face portraits) My first thing that came to mind when you asked for tutorials or resources was the thread on this forum...about tutorials and resources. (fancy that ;)) That thread can be found here. Next i thought to myself, if I were to look at all of these websites, it'd be a little bit daunting, so I'll send you my favorite website among those for portraits and referance drawings. Feel free to go there too. 2.) Recently, I saw neonakis do a pretty good tutorial in the "Whatchya Workin' On?" thread. Her tutorial/explaination. If I find some time, I may try to help you with some of your pictures later, but for now, you should check out those resources -Zigity |

Those clothes seem REALLY tight. (not something one would tend to find a fighter like that wearing..) I'd suggest trying to make the clothes look baggier. If they don't hug the skin so much, they'll look less like spandex and more like cloth.

well the clothes were (some parts of jacket werent) based on a character from a manga called ID_entity and i was trying to make the clothes look like this aradon guy from the manga it wasnt referenced cause its my friends book but i used it from memory (not the gesture it was from "enter the dragon" but i forgot what clothes the gesture was wearing  ) |

Espen - i really really like your work man! i could only find 1 thing wrong with your char sketch, and thats that when she's kneeling, at least one of her knees needs to be on the ground because thats a really hard position to hold! im sure it'll make an awesome flash movie though! do you take any art classes or anything, cause it seems like you got 100% better at art in a very short amount of time! keep it up!!!! btw, what program do you use to do your paintings? |

Hey Espen, I found three questionable things with your drawing. (An all time highscore for me
 )Mmkay, the first thing that I found, hwiazen touched it a little. The right leg of the character on the right side should be a tiny bit above the left one or else the perspective is going to be very strange. Second, her right shoulder (left picture) is a LOT larger and more muscular than the left one. This isn't a very hard problem to fix. All you need to do is cut the arm and move it to the right a little bit. After that, a few touch-ups with the eraser should do the job. The third thing I noticed wasn't necessarily wrong, but it was questionable at least. I noticed that the lines connecting her shoulders together and her hips together weren't opposite angles. (It's hard to explain) Basically she looked off-balance. (with about 80% of her weight on one foot, and 20% on the other) This isn't necessarily wrong, I'm just pointing it out so you can fix it if you think it's wrong ![]() Overall though, great work! I'm loving that caterpiller/mongoose thing Did you say you were going to make this into an animation?? -Zigity |
