Thanks Bludi and Rubberhead. Your comments are exactly what I need in order to improve :) . I probably won't mess with this picture any more, but I will continue studying and work on the areas you both mentioned. I'll post more sketches soon.

That's not shitty, you got the proportions right and defined the areas of shadow pretty well - that's the crucial part. All it's really lacking are smoother lines and coloured shadows.

Toonzy: I love that cat pic! :bing: What did she draw em with?

Something from last week (school). Had to copy a face from a mag, not really finished but I like how it turned out.

i really like your illustration Kiwi. bit of a colour mess where the hands meet. but other than that i think its really good. i dont think it needs smoother lines or coloured shadows - i love the style you've got there.

Hey Elephant, keep posting man!
The very last thing I want is these forums becoming yet another one of those elitist places such as Eatpoo, Sijun or Conceptart where all the "noobs" are afraid of posting.
Plus I love your stuff (and your jaggie pixels, I really do  )

And there nothing more exciting then to see the average newground-wannabe turn into well... a good artist =D
I mean, that's one of the great things about this forum, the diversity in skill, and helping people that are starting from zero. (erh... nothing of that directed at you ofcourse ^^' )

Anyway...

I'm focusing a little more on drawing heads recently, faces are still my big weak spot.
So I scribbled allot of junk I found out about it down. Decided to throw it online, it's pretty sloppy and overwhelmingly chaotic, you'd probably have to stare at if for a while before it starts making sense. Maybe someone else can benefit from it...
Mainly about features, pretty huge too, didn't downsize it.

Rubberhead the magazine reference is great.

Elephant - keep on posting :) . Really, whats the worst thing that could happen? Posting on a forum where people like Rubberhead, Anghenfil, Comlock, Espen, etc. are willing to offer tips and feedback to help you improve is the next best thing to actually taking formal art lessons.

I'm kinda hung over today after the long football weekend, so I couldn't even begin to focus. After a few failed hand and face studies I decided to stop thinking and just draw something. Here's what I drew. Too many mistakes to mention but it was fun to draw.

wow, You're getting alot better at faces Rubber! But remember to put the eyebrow in the corner where the eyesocket ends and forehead begins. And show the depth of the eyesocket more on that magazine drawing.Between that eye and the nose is the sharpest and most clear angle of the eyesocket you can find on a face. Just look in the mirror =)

And HadOne2Many, since you just posted right before I was gonna post, I'll try to throw in a little crit for you aswell^^ Not realy that accurate and good, but anyway =) :

(longer ribcage, longer chest, the muscle on the hips on both side should hit the edge where the abbs start. This drawing is just a reminder. It's no way near perfect though)

Awesome work as allways Rubberhead.I think Comlock allready gave most of the critiq so nothing else then a thumb up from my side.

@Elephant: Good job man.I really like your style and your art! And post lots like the others say :) Sketches = improvement and we all started from skratch :bing:

Nice goblin HadOne2Many.I really like it.My kinda taste ;D Keep em coming.

@W00t: Its a good start! As I understand you drew something thats been on your mind.Maybe you should detail it some more.Give it fingers and a face.Maybe shadow him. It's great practise :D

Anyways here's my sketch.Been doing a whole tank in 3d so when I got home I wanted to draw.My fantasy never stops me so heres what I made.I dont have a name of the monster type so call it another part of the goblin family ;) C&C are welcomed as allways

Im afraid to leave mumble
My first time posting something in the animation part of BW, hope it's in the right place.

Finished my art thingy for my drawing/painting class, so I snuck my cam in and took some pics of it. Assignment was to do a self-portrait draw/sketch, first a practice and then a final with shading. First time I drew in about 7 years besides the project before it, don't think I did too shabby for a beginner.

First draft:

Final:

Both:

Criticism welcome. I coulda done a better job on the shading but I was afraid to go to dark and mess it up.

The thumb is off and you can see the words that are on the other side of the paper. Oh, and I suck at crosshatching. Oh, and that's not a tennis ball. It's a stress ball, so it's easier to squish.

Any crits other than that?

Lots of drawings today. Good :)

Comlock - thanks for the reminder, I can't believe some of the obvious mistakes I made on that one!

w00t - Anatomy study helps everyone ;)

InFlamE - glad you liked the Gargoyle Goblin. For your drawing I would suggest working on being consistent with your features and symmetry. Are you using any type of guidelines when you draw? If not I would urge you to pick up the habit. I find it very helpful.

fizzeddog - I see quite a bit of improvement between the two images. You're off to a good start.

Ravenseye - I can't see the image you posted, only a red X.

Tom Conger - Tom, like you said the thumb is the biggest thing bothering me. If you are thinking about changing it this could help.Quick Redline

Today I did a hair study, all were referenced from various images. Trying to understand how it flow. Anyone have any good tips to help me with these studies?

Very slowly :( . I use Alias Sketchbook, pencil with normal settings. Instead of just scribbling like I usually do with hair, I tried to capture the way it moves and falls. First I picked the spot where it was parted. Then I started from the front of the head and worked my way back. I could keep drawing hair like this I just don't want to pick up any bad habits.

And Kenny you're gonna get locked up sonner or later :P

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but i hear a lot about a lot of different programs such as painter, and this sketching thing you speak of. I wanted to know if there are any good free tablet based programs like these. Since im a private user, id be using these mainly for learning purposes, can anyone give me a brief list of possible programs?

Kenny check this thread.

Also (the following link is a direct download for an executable file) Open Canvas 1.1 is very good. Not Quite as powerful as Photoshop, but it has layer support and pressure sensitivity. Pretty good selection of brushes. IF you use this one you'll need to change the language to English the first time you open it. Its one of the tabs at the top, far right I think.

Nice Jemooky, is that anyone in particular on the flag?
EDIT: Thanks Tom, It does look just like him  I never watch his show (used to se him on the Daily Show all the time though) so he slipped my mind.
