You, sir, win a point.
Savour it.

Yeah, it's Stephen. I did a quick painting based off a photograph. It was a test of a new brush setting, painting without a sketch, and trying to get accurate colours.

Edit: I never mentioned it, but any crits on my Colbert painting would be great. Keep in mind that it's a "speed-painting" (30 mins). As I said, I'm mostly focusing on colours and skin tone. Thanks :)

G'day Y'all!

I had a look at some muscular anatomy pictures and i tried changing my guy a bit.
He looks practically the same.
Posted Image
I also tried colouring him a bit. I'm not all that great at shadows and lighting effects and i know if i do try on him i'll mess it up so i just stuck ith the basics.

This is my orginal, just so you can see the changes.

Don't care how boring it is, they look hella awesome. Especially the upright (nostalgic Final Fantasy feeling.. ahh..) and downleft ones. The other 2 are somehow a bit wonky but good nevertheless. At least you got the head size right which I always wrong :P Keep on doin those, I learn a bit from each one.

They're awesome man, you have improved massively, I remember thinking a few months back when I saw you in a sketch battle that we were at around the same level in drawing (was thinking of battling you) but now, you rock my socks off and then right back on again

I like the bottom left one by the way, or do I just like Jessica Alba?

Here is my latest project im working on. Well at work i went to the bathroom and drew which is something i do hahah like 25 mins and no one notices!!! Anyway i realized ive never seen a chinease warrior "Samauri" Fighting a chinease based dragon. Ive seen knights that would be at your round table fighting dragons but not the samuri vrs the Chinease based dragon so i decided im going to make one. So heres my sketch and in time ill get the finished up.

good point on the legs ill fix that up. As for the flag i plan on having it be a dieing dragon cous i think im going to make him have a redish like flow of smokey glow off of parts of his armor and blade. Im thinking hes part of a samuri clan thats purpuse is to defend the people from dragons so hes special haha! (Here come the angry sarcastic remarks about how they worshiped the dragons >.<)

Ever tried calling a Chinese person Japanese? They'll slap you. World War 2 related animosity.

Don't worry about the clash of japanese samurai and chinese dragon. I think it's still awesome, and I'd continue with it if I was you. I'm pretty sure even Japan has mythological dragons in their culture. I recommend asking Wikipedia.

I had no idea my hair studies would generate those kinds of responses. Thanks to everyone for your comments. That certainly helps to boost my ego a little bit  , but I made a lot of mistakes on those. The good news is I am starting to be able to see my own mistakes.

InFlamE - keep drawing and keep posting. There's lots of anatomical errors in your last girl picture (the neck and the torso especially) but you will continue to get better with practice :) .

Calcifer - your flame creature looks really flat, maybe some color would help it stand out.

Ravenseye - Great idea for a drawing. You may want to cut out some of the empty space in the upper left hand corner. You could change the view a little too so its not quite so flat. I can't wait to see more of it.

Jemooky Nice mouse. I envy your speed painting skills.

Today I did a lot of reading. Mainly from Burne Hogarth, then did another quick face study using his pictures as reference. Then I had one of thos "A ha!" moments. You probably can't tell from these sketches, but my understanding of the 3-dimensional makeup of the face just skyrocketed.

Jemooky Nice mouse.  I envy your speed painting skills.

And I envy your pencil rendering skills. Especially these faces. Was there any reference, or did you just try to break down how the face is made up?
Crits: The nose is narrower in the 3/4 view, and the ears seem exactly the same in both views. Try looking back and forth between the two faces, and you'll see that the ears barely change. Also, try adding some lips. I've learned from my self portrait, my colbert painting, and this Fight Club painting that lips are way more intricate than they seem.
Keep up the good work.

And another one of my test painting thingies. I don't know how long I spent on this... ages, probably. About 1/3 of my time on the guy, 1/3 on the soap, and 1/3 on the editing.
