I like the fight club painting, Jemooky, but i'm really interested by this talk of a colbert work. I've never seen it; what was it?

folville, check page 279 of this thread, you'll find Jemooky's painting there.
EDIT: Jemooky you beat me to it :)

And Jemooky, I used this for my study

Drawing the Human Head - Burne Hogarth

The 3/4 view was referenced from page 31 of it, the front view was all me :). I highly recommend his books, even if you are very skilled in the art of figure drawing. His approach is radically different from anything else I've seen, but It works.

You've suddenly gotten MUCH more Ren-and-Stimpy over the past year. Not that it's bad, but I prefer your Humble-style.

He's not very good at figuring out his animals, is he? :bing:

It's a solid picture, as always. Good job. :wbitey:

Hadone2many: I see what you mean and i think what i added on the left side makes it look cool with the setting but you will have to wait for the final to see it! As for the scenory i like the idea of a vally behind it so im going to continue to go with it but thanks!

Bleego,

Isn't the shadow of the hand that's open like a claw coming down from a lightsource on the opposite side of him?

What I'm trying to say is, is the lightsource in the top left of the picture? Or is it in the top right of the picture?

Easy fix nonetheless, and awesome work!

Keep it up,

You know what's funny? It's actually the hand with the dagger. What happened is he originally wasn't holding anything and had his hand open. But, I ended up not liking it. So, I changed it to the dagger but forgot to change the shadow. :P

Oh well!

Yeah, I get in Style Phases. I'm not sure what my style is actually. I'm defintely in a Spumco mood these days (it's a bit Rat Fink too). I think it's a reaction to doing so much "realism" at work... Don't worry, I'll be obscessed with something else soon... ;)

I know you can't really post what you do at work, but can you post a "sketch" of what's typical of your work stuff?

Flash or Photoshop usually, that last one was Flash with a bit of PS sexiness added on...

I'll see if I can dig up anything representitive. But, in the meantime imagine Comicbook and Robot realism... movie license stuff. ;)

The good news is that Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam will be release this Fall so people will finally be able to see what I've been doing since October 2005. ;)

Unfortunally, the stuff I'm doing now won't be public till next year... :(

That's the one rub of this biz, but the time stuff comes out, you've moved on artistically... Even now as I reflect on Jam, I'm like, "Shit, I could have done this or that better..."

Edit:

Here's a few in the neighborhood:

Juggernaut
Kraven Redesign
Some Sketchy Clues

This said, most my my concept stuff doesn't go past BW because of the turnaround time needed. Then, of course I've been drawing lots of machinery too, for menus.

i really like your choice of colors matt! the thing that throws me off a bit is his facial expression. His lips seem a little more full than they are in the actual pic, which kinda trhows off the look that he had. Really nice tho! :)

Hey Dave, what brush setting are you using + do you smooth, etc? I can never get such good linequality in Flash, and it's really annoying me. Or do you use Toonboom for that kinda stuff?

Used Flash; brush smoothing set to 50...

It takes getting used to because it's less predictable. But, I'm finding my clean up time is less when bow down to Flash and be it's bitch. The only time i set it lower is when I'm doing clouds or something (something with longer strokes with nooks and crannies), then it's like 35...

When i'm on 50, it's very short strokes so I can get the shapes I like...
