Been waiting for this!!! An espen photo dump or a espen spree! Tried geting a dragon in like motion ... i know i know im not the best at animal/beast anatamy but im studying and ive put a little bit of what ive learned towards this hope you enjoy.  (Edit) Heres a quick painting i did of a fire in a cave. Never get good at painting if i dont practice!!! got any tips or crits pls lay em on me.

i was going for a stormy looking look out side the cave and well its alright .... for like a hours work The art of animal drawing is deffinitly helping me improve. I heard that Horses are the hardest animal to draw anyone know if this is fact or fiction? Anways heres the quick sketch i drew of a horsey

This post is really just to express my jealousy towards Espen's speedpaintings. Man, they're incredible! I seriously just looked at it for a few minutes. Is there any way you can share some tips, or your philosophies on colouring? |

Agreed. Those strokes are incredibly lifelike. Is the penciling on the mountains below or above the color layer? Did you use color sampling or a reference photo?  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  2 1/2 hour blk/whi conte crayon on gray paper. Emphasis was on composition--- but value critiques are WELCOME! |

Thanks ang. That wing explanation was completely new to me and ive always had trouble with them and understanding where the skin attached to the "fingers" of the wing. Thanks for the crits on the horse too. I got the art of animal drawing and have been sketching and studying from it for like 3 er 4 days. Your crits deffinitly helped me see some of the mistakes im pulling and ill keep studying! Did most of this the other day. I might be geting worse. Cool idea horrible painting.  (edit) sketch before work. Dont know why but for some reason ive been in the mood for dragon.

Its looking good so far espen. My eye draws right to the creatures eye so dont change much about that! The hand feels to small though. To be exact i would say its the fingerish things. Im just suggesting you make them a little bigger and longer. The horns are looking good and the texture is looking awsome too! Texture i need to learn that!

Lol Tom, that's a funny drawing. You should frame it & give it to her, see how much she likes it. Espen that's looking like painting sex so far! I fully agree with Raven about the hand. Also, if you want to make him a bit more menacing, you could make his mouth curl up behind his eye rather than just straight back...it'd be a bit more dynamic. == Bought a few different colors of col-erase today, so I had to break them in. Working on developing a mantis character (little orphan of the lobster character some of you may have seen). Just some quick doodles while work was slow today. They should call this pencil Ninja Turtle Green.  |
