Perhaps you could use more 'saturated' colours to create a slightly more realistic appearance, it's nice to see that you're using Rubber's advice by adding shadows; but maybe you could try and study shadows in real life, make a model out of blu-tac and hold it up to the light; watch how the shadows spread across it... None the less, big improvement, keep it up! |

BEHOLD P.O.I !!!![]() hes my lil P.O.I ghost (Po-y. like toy with a P). P.O.I stands for Prisonier of insanity. They come in many shapes and sizes as well as anatomical structers. ( if i spell that right i want a cookie) when you dream these lil guys take the form of the people in your dreams when you have nightmares. they turn into those too. after several dreams they change permanitly. so try not to have that same nightmare so many times in a row. a P.O.I's life is at steak!!! this lil guy tho is my buddy. he comes along when i go out saving the world. so he thinks that makes him a hero too, or atleast a sidekick. (hence the lil red cape) |

Inflame. Im going to attempt to help you a bit here so you can better your shading and lighting. Im not exactly sure if you use Photo shop but by the looks of it you do so i wipped this little thing up for you to help. First off your eyedrop tool is like one of your mega power tools for geting a good gradation. I am using my eye dropper more then any other tool when im working on my peices. should be hot keey I. So For example if you Set your opacity at 50% (which is right up next to your flow and mode) It will allow the color your useing to be 50 percent clear i guess you could say. Setting this at different percentages allows you to make bolder gradations and some that arnt so much bold. ![]() For the Gradation from Red to white i used a 45% opacity and used my eyedroper to blend it into the white. I am constantly going back and forth from my brush too the eye dropper so it would be good to learn those hot keys on your keyboard. Should be B for brush and I for eyedropper. This also allows you to blend colors like i did with the red and pink/purple whatever color lol. I hope that this helps you a bit. When you start geting it down which will take practice your peices will start looking alot better! |

EDIT: Ravenseye: you beat me to it^^ InFlamE: One of the things that makes your painting look flat is becasue you cover each side of the object with equal amount of light and shadow on both sides. They're both hitting it on the edges aswell, wich also makes it look flat: ![]() One of the things you could try to do is: -cover the objects with either more shadows than light, or oposite. -Letting the light come from upper left\upper right instead of just left\right. -Let shadow or light hit the center or between center and edge of the object instead of just the edge. here's just some some examples: ![]() You could also try to add a bounce light\reflective light on the shadow side (depending on the material and scene ofcourse) ![]() And you can also change colour to the lightsource and bouncing light aswell to make it look even more interesting. These examples I made are still quite boring colourwise, so you should take a look at this site for better and more advanced tips like making better gradients. and use of saturated desaturated colours and stuff.Lots of neat information here: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm |

ok first of all --WARNING-- exposer of nudity. its still tastfull considering the context not sure if this fits here but its somthing i sketch tonight. playing with paintburshes. so i hope its ok heres somthing i recently found out when im drawing somthing i dont realy pay attenion to what im doing and my mind wonders depending on what im drawing. i spent a good half hour painting a tree singing "im a little tree pretty as can be pretty as can be little tree" like a music box over and over in my head befor i knew what i was doing. wich brings us to this i just wanted to sketch out on painting to see if i can make any dent in progress. cause i suck at painting. aside from this picture a whole conversation emerged as to whats going on in this scene. so first ill show you the pic and "play" out whats being said. as it came to me while i was sketching this out. the image is of a woman being accused of witchcraft ![]() setting a churc/makeshift court during the salem witch hunts. accuser: your honnor this woman be a witch i swear it to you. judge: what proof do you have accuser: i have seen her with mine own eyes danceing in the woods bearing the mark of the beast on her very bossum! girl: HE LIES!!! accuser: Bite your toungh woman! keep your lieing toung still befor his honor! girl: I say again he lies!!! Judge: Mame how can you dispute this proof. shurly the marks on your cheast are enough. girl: he made this mark himself. For a long time I turned his oncommings with no remorse. But still he persisted till madness took him. He tore my gown and marked my body claming me the devils own! <accuser shakes the girl as his temper rises> accuser: I said bite your toung!!! Judge: unhand this poor woman! accuser: cant you see she lies! shes trying to trick you all!!! so what do you think? o.o whos lieing. what'll happen. will i ever get the paint brushes to actauly work for me! find out next time!!! same losty time same daily sketch channel! o.o ok...im sorry i know i need help but medication only goes so far ^-^ |
