Never use lens flares again. Ever ever ever. Bad Combined. I don't think I've ever seen the pre-made lens flares in a way that actually services the picture, so you're best off staying away from it. Not saying it's impossible though, but definitely not for beginners.

Filters and premade "nature" brushes are best used very very subtly. It should enhance, not distract.

I personally think the real power of photoshop is the power of its brush system. Check on the pictures by Espen and Humble and you'll see what I mean.

Ok all im being forced at gunpoint to post this-

backstory- i was invited to a conference call on skype with mutey, espen and munch, after about 5 mins of chanting 'Tom' i began to hear 'wet slapping noises' of an obscene nature, needless to say i was disturbed and bemused, so i made this in retalliation (later to find the culprit of the horrific noises was mutey, sos munch) - ps i know its a crap drawing so dont bother with crits on this one folks

Ha! I was wondering about that conversation about the slapping fish :P

Anyways, here's a sketch I did of Lilia (see story called Lilia :P )

I always think "ack, it needs a little nip there, different angle there." but I'm quite proud of myself considering how I usually suck at drawing people

elephant - it gets a little busy on the right side. Definitely has you written all over it though . Is that Mark Twain in the middle?

Two birds for me today.

Trying to get over my fear of going dark in my pictures. Both these were drawn from reference out of a book of photos I just got, called "Birds of Prey, Majestic Masters of the Sky". I have a feeling I'm gonna be painting a lot of birds for the next few months :P

@HadOne2Many: both of them are realy nice
1st:
+point: the face looks realy cool
-points: I think this img could use a background
his body and feet could be don better

2nd:
+points: the head and eye's ect are asome
his upper body is realy nice
-points: I don't realy liuke his legs
the green lines on the bottem makes it a less good in my personalopinion

PS: I would never be able to make it by myself so good work

Don't be afraid! Push it further! I'm really bad at using stronger contrasts but it really works if done well. Well done on the head on the second one it's all been done really well.

elephant: crazy as usual :D

effin: like your style, haven't really got any criticism. More!!

Not bad, but don't just paint onto your background colour. First block in a ground layer. Allways paint ontop of a previous layer, never paint untill edges meet.

scarrabee - I see it is obvious where the majority of my time was spent on these two pictures  I had some real trouble with the legs on the second one. That entire part of the picture was in a very pale shadow, and I don't know enough yet about the bird anatomy to fill in the blanks properly.

Pillow - I'm working on it. I actually used some black in the head :gasp:

Rubberhead - never paint until the edges meet? I don't really understand what you mean
