Don't zoom in too far. Make fast movements when you draw (be confident). Erase when needed. ;)

These are great! haha, love the Espen and Jem drawing especially!
My nose is to perfect^^. I do have a wider philippino nose (not so clear in that pic). If my head is viewed from the front my ears will cleary stick out like two handles. so if I was drawn in an angle where both of my ears are showing, it would prob look even more like me. You look too fat and flat =). I think it would be better if you drew yourself in 3/4 or profile view since you've got quite a characteristic nose brige as well. I also like Ben's caricature, but he has the exact headshape as a caricaturized DanielVector, so I think he should be a bit more round/squareish. Rest of his features looks great though =D

Those are some nice caricatures, I don't know anyone and it still made me smile. :) :D You should try making some quick money by doing those for five bucks around town.

The left arm (his left) on your second man (the one with the ax) seems to be much longer then his right arm. With the axe behind him it dosnt look like his hand is closer, so it just come off a tab bit awkward. Nice work on the first man though, I love his build.

Thanks! I probably should have put the axe in front of him, or made it so that it looked like his arm was extending behind him to reach the handle... Well, just something else to look for next time. :)

Realistic drawing first draft
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c188/ava...g-first-dra.jpg
As you may know my ultimate goal is to be able to draw realistic looking characters without having to look at a source picture (i.e. original characters). This is the first drawing based on that paradigm, and I don’t really like how it has turned out. I need someone to tell me where exactly I am going wrong – each time I try to correct one part, another seems to go wrong in it’s place. I’m glad that I’ve managed to advance my gradient fill tool skills, but really it’s a matter of fact that I cannot shade for shit.

tsninjapirate, the first thing u need to know is that there are no difference between drawing a human with or without a source, except the thing that there is a human in front of u.. I'm not a master of this, but it's all because I struggle of getting the picture in my head on to the paper.
Just think of a body and u have it, out of that u will only need the ability of getting the picture in your head on the paper.

practise is all it takes;)

and peace out

tsninjapirate,

In order to draw human characters as you have described, without a reference picture, you're going need a few things in your kit as an artist. Narubi is right, it IS a matter of getting what is in your head onto paper, and that's not all.

What if the image in your head isn't right to begin with? Sure, you may know the basic parts of what you're trying to draw, but do you know how they work?... Intimately? You may not have all of the knowledge of the object needed in order to draw it realistically in the first place. Judging by your exhibit, I would say your understanding of the human body needs expansion.

Let's say you'd like to draw a bicycle. Basic bicycle construction says you'll need two wheels, a frame, a seat, handlebars, at the very least to make it recognizable, right?
  • These parts must have corresponding counterparts to make them function and keep them all attached together and in working order. You'll need tires, gears, a chain, shocks, maybe?

Now, you have your list of parts, of what make will they be? Thin? Thick? Shiny, dull, bright, dark, long, Schwinn, Mongoose, or Specialized? Old, new, damaged, wrecked?
A human body is a great deal more complex than a bicycle, but it was merely an example. An accomplished artist should both know and understand his subject in order to draw it realistically (though some make an exception to this).

Study and draw anatomy, croquis, and everyday life, it will help you on the path to your goal.

I agree %100 on this. Get some anatomy books too, because the human body needs to be studied inside and out. The two I've been using most recently are Bridgeman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. The other is Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet. Then hang out in the Speed Drawing thread under Competitions and Activities and learn some techniques for drawing quickly.

I feel bad double-posting this pic. The whole thing can be seen in the Doodle Comm Thread, but I really liked this part of it, so I figured I'd post it here, too...

Please critique the hell out of it. :D

The main issues are the left leg and the head, the neck muscles looks like the are over his head, i guess putting the head a bit more up would do its justice.

and the left leg, i see the arm is coming almost towards us, but not enough to make the left leg look natural! if you make the length longer i guess it would be nicer :D
