Ack! I look like I have more chins than a chinese phone book!

I suggest shading the neck... maybe?

Better than I could ever hope to get any art of mine! Good job!

EDIT: Oh you did on a laptop touch pad. Hahaha, wow that must have been painful.

Deuce, I love 'em all! Especially the little bear

Edit:

Here's a little sketch I threw together... and yes, I did pull the head shape of the guy on the left from Deuce's sketch because I liked it so much.

I'm going to do a large amount of sketches (proper pencil and paper stuff, I've stopped wacom drawing activities for the near future) based on people and things, and here's the first one (alongside the original source pic).

Tsninjapirate are you going to draw just from photos? And why stopping wacom activities?

About the sketch. His leg on the right side is too long. His body is too small and leaning backwards and not towards. His head is too big.

Hope that helps! :wbitey:

My first photoshop portrait attempt. >.<
I used a laptop touchpad.
*goes and hides under a rock*

with a touchpad that's brilliant but I have a few bits of advice to add
Use a bigger brush (preferably a circle one and not a square) at a low-ish opacity (45%) over what you've already painted there and add more contrast and some other colours to give the portrait shape. For a first time on photoshop and with a touchpad it puts my first photoshop attempt to shame so keep it up and you'll be giving me a run for my money!! I only did the face and the contrast and likeness aren't that brilliant but you get the idea:

The Deuce: like your style do more!!

Tom: love the fish the best, you give everything a nice chunky solid feel

tsninjapirate: get the basic outline/pose down first. It's not bad but you've concentrated on detail, drawing the picture item by item and lost the pose a little. Nice go though

I'm trying to improve my overall drawing skill by drawing only pencil and paper from photographs, something I can't do just by doing wacom drawings all the time.

Tsninjapirate that's good. But I recommend to draw not only from photos but also from real life. ;)

I like to draw from photos and other drawings in books too - but I agree drawing from town etc. is a great challenge - but you have to be fast or loose..

Heres a sketch from paper only - I like Icecream... :P

I've tried to make a composition without something in the center as the last one...

I'm going to color all later.

ive mostly just been doing texture/colour experiments and whatnot recently but heres a couple of things that im not completely repulsed by (done using mouse and flash because wacom is on the fritz)

Screwed up with the lighting and hands on this one but its ok when not under close scrutiny

Super sack if you need any help with brush settings on painter just ask :).

One thing i see you always doing is highlighting with white, this isnt a good idea, and how you do it makes it look like an overexposed photo.

Instead try to highlight with less bright slightly saturated colours, you should see a huge difference. :)

Sack, that second one reminds me of the old Sega game Primal Rage. Oh, and I agree with Muzzy. White Highlights are a no-no.

Quick sketch before bed.

Thanks Munch and TheEye..

I like it black and white myself!

Great sketch Tom - looks very tired..!

Maybe his ears should go futher back on the side of his head.

SuperSack. I like your renderings - but agree about the highlight.

I've tried Painter a couple of times - but my computer is too slow to handle it.

I've seen great illustrations on this board made in Painter.

PhotoShop is really a great tool - but it doesn't blend colors as good as Painter as far as I know.

My previous post can't be edited anymore, so I have to make a new one. I spent about an hour and a half on this, though I was talking online at the same time. I'm actually quite proud of this one.

Haha... I'm not quite sure, but thank you very much.

I guess, unlike most people, I really don't pay too much attention to making my crosshatching look nice and uniform. Instead of making individual lines, I scribble. Oh, and I was using a photo for reference.
