There are some proportion issues going on in the arms.
I drew ontop of it. Not perfect but you should get the idea.
Always spend some time making sure your proportions are correct. After a while they should become second nature.

I think the folds are a little wrinkly, sure you do have pants that have those kind of folds. Usually there are allot of folds near joints, and then for the more smooth parts of the body they get more influenced by gravity so you'd have larger, more flowing folds.
Hope that makes sense hehe ^^'

I've done another body grid thing, this time it's a Koenigsegg CC.

I was going to have this as my avatar until I realized it looked fairly shit reduced to the 64x64 size...

Then I thought it felt too dark so I ran Auto Level and this is what came of it:

Thanks for the feedback earlier. Here's a drawing composition I did using three separate Bruce lee photos as reference. I took this picture with my webcam so it's small and unclear. im thinking roughly 6 hours

Posted Image

and here's a study of a statue. 6hours?

I find drawing realistically from imagination is very hard. I should do more life drawings because i RARELY draw at all.

Really nice, SoT! I can't find anything to critique (...especially with a resolution that small ;)).

Yeah, it takes time. There was a time when I couldn't draw anything from my imagination except really primitive stuff, despite being really good at life drawing. Perhaps it had something to do with the way I approached life drawing. Instead of trying to understand, I interpreted what was before me as a flat photograph, and tried to capture exactly what I saw. That method takes a long time and can give you great results in life drawing, but it won't help you one bit when it's time to draw from the imagination.

This was a number of years ago, but... I seem to remember that after watching "The Triplets of Belleville", something just clicked. It's like I realized "aha, THIS is the way it's done!". Of course, there were tons of influences after that, but that was the single moment after which my skill at drawing from the imagination started to improve. I'm not entirely sure why that was. Maybe it was just so different from everything I'd seen before, and of such high quality, that it provided a certain kick. Another smaller "kick" came after I saw Jiri Barta's feature film "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" (clip 1, clip 2). None of those films may work for you, and I'm not sure why they had such an effect on me. I just thought I'd mention it.

I'll also quote what I said here about the importance of observation/understanding, for the benefit of other readers:

Drawing, and animation especially (and directing to an even further degree), actually requires a lot more than just technical skill.  It requires paying close attention to the world around you and trying your best to understand it.  Only when you really understand something can you ever hope to capture its essence.  When you see a good drawing, what you're not seeing (but what is always, always there) is the artist's understanding of the inner workings of what he's portraying.  At least 90% of a good artist's work is "hidden" (but it is that 90% which allows the artist to draw something else equally brilliant, while someone less skilled will simply trace his lines over and over again with no understanding of what went into making them).  As the great Russian animator Yuriy Norshteyn says, "animation teaches you to have an observant worldview".

Learning to observe is the most important skill that a good artist must master.  Everything else follows.

In this case... maybe try paying attention to something that's NOT standing still (or someone). Pay attention to the things that you just can't see when you're looking at a photograph or a statue (character, movement, life). It looks like you've got the statue/photograph thing down pat, so why not try something new? :) Paying attention to moving subjects will force you to "fill in the blanks", in a sense, which isn't that far off from drawing from the imagination.

SenseofTouch, I love that Bruce Lee illustration. It's like a mix of star wars posters and Kato... so... what else can you ask for?

When I fell off the forum, I also fell out of art for a while. So these are sort of my shambled return to art:

Nice stuff. I s'pose I jsut have to say the ear looks a bit to far back and the nose stands out with it's size. The human head is a hard thing to get right with clay but it's good ;)

Nice poster Dash - and the clay-model looks great - I agree with StickyWicky about the ear - the neck should probably follow forward too..

Nice croquis Jeemoky
Love the black outline - maybe a little more rythm (from side to side) would give it even more beauty..

Heres something cruel and nasty

Just another excercise in shading and rendering i PS

Heres another head from mind.

He's somekind of a strange person - smiling and friendly but with a tint of evil in his eyes and around his mouth...

Maybe he's a ganster or a thief.. who knows?

I've used a smooth paint/airbrush and the smudge tool and liquidfyfilter in PS.

edges of the face and hair look a bit hard especially when compared to those of the ears but I absolutely love the shading and detail on the face. very nice

I agree that the nose is too big stickywicky, but you have the ear pretty long back on the head, in a real human form. And the neck is not stand upright for the humans. but i gonna build the shoulders.
Thanks for the crits :]

Comic book-y sketch when I should have been doing school work.

I was playing around with the colors alot and its really interesting how it affects the mood. With they primary yellow he look downright evil and with the teal-blue he looks like a stern but nice priest.

I was thinking it's the other way around  But still very nice, keep messing with the colours until you get something that's awesome-riffic :D

My final objective is to start making digital painting, but I figure that without a Wacom (or whatever name those things have) that will be dificult to acomplish. Ohh well, who knows.. I might get crazy and waste my savings :P

...until then...

buying a wacom is DEFINITELY NOT a waste of savings - especially if you're serious about art. I've recently started a new flash project (after getting permission from Adam to use one of his tunes) and here are a couple of backgrounds I've drawn - I wonder what you all make of my grass technique.

EDIT: the next one.

tsninjapirate: You clearly want to learn to draw and you show a lot of energy in trying to do so. I've been sitting on this advice for far too long out of pure laziness. Get yourself a sketchbook and try to find a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain at your local library (or you can buy it, I don't think it's all that expensive (especially if you can find a used copy)). Follow the lessons in the book to the letter. You will not regret it.
Also do some quick gesture drawings/speed drawing regularly (once a day or every other day at least) to loosen up your drawing hand.

Speed drawing thread here at the forum. Check it out to get an idea of exactly what speed drawings are all about.

Posemaniacs timed drawings

Do these lessons/activities and you'll notice big jumps in your ability to draw in a short amount of time. Then later you'll have to study anatomy, perspective, lights and shadows and then you'll have to learn how to use colours well... it's a lot of hard work, but pretty much everything worth doing is.
