I'm not that good at drawing yet, but I'll just have to practice as much as possible. Anyways here it is.

Are you drawing with a mouse, Chinaman? There's a certain stiffness in those lines that suggests that. If so, you're not alone... I suck at drawing with the mouse. Frankly, I don't recommend it. Either draw with a pencil and scan them to post them up here, or use a tablet (some of the smaller tablets are very inexpensive). The reason is that you can't really draw freely with a mouse; you're always worried about it moving in the wrong place.I'm quite embarassed by this thing, but I might as well post it up here. This is pretty much the first picture I've done with a "paint" program which is more advanced than Paint.NET (I've always focused on just line-art): ![]() It's... er... a poorly-drawn reddish cat. Drawn with a mouse. About the only thing I like about it is the way I made the fur fuzzy around the edges.I've never owned Photoshop and GIMP's interface wasn't very friendly to me, so I decided to try out the trial version of a program called ArtRage. I absolutely love it, despite this bad first result! The interface is so easy to use and so very natural. And from the looks of this gallery (especially this, this and this) it's possible to get a lot more variety than photoshop with brushes (I've never really liked the airbrushed-clean look that most photoshop artworks have). Anyway... the full version's only $25 so I think I'll buy it soon and work on discovering what I can do! (by the way, I actually do plan to have a cat like this in a future film. Once I learn to be better at painting, obviously) EDIT: ![]() Another quick experiment, based off a photograph... EDIT2: I added some orange stripes and fixed the eyes a little. I still don't like the look of the nose... (well, that's the main thing) ![]() I don't really like this "painting with a mouse" thing... I can't wait until I get a tablet.

Esn, I have draw now with mouse in Photoshop and Oekaki in over 3 years, and I still say that I always take more a paper and pencil than digital mouse art(I suck on it tough :P). But with tablet will never came true, or a miracle of money will come to me. But you are very good with work with mouse anyway. I must say it, i love cats, but could never draw soo good as you can! I am jealous on you. But not so much that I hate you And ArtRage looks fun and really good, but now i have Artgrounds.com and other drawing programs to think on. Well, only PS and oekaki... ![]() This is made by mouse... ![]() http://moonydash.deviantart.com/art/Waterl...lpaper-68901097 |

Esn: I think that the main problem with your painting are the white spots in the middle of the image. If you remove those I think the whole will look much better than it does now. Dash: Nice looking dragon u got there, I made one myself too. That's all mouse i guess? If so you'll have to teach me how to get those clean lines you got there Deuce: I'd try darkening it a bit to give him volume. It somehow reminds me of Bingbong Supersack: I think the main problem you have is the artline. Not that I'm any good at it, but i'd try defining the painting more. Finnaly, here are my daily submissions. I'd like criticism above all. That's how you improve right? A first test at paint an eye after previously drawing it on paper. ![]() And finally a dragon emerging out of some hill (or whatever that is )

Thanks moimeme. The problem of the white canvas showing through will be easy to fix once I buy the full version of the program (just duplicate the layer and move it one pixel to the side), which will hopefully be soon. The trial version is missing many features, such as multiple layers. Those white spots also disappear if I shrink the image a little. Your dragon is pretty good, but it seems to be missing legs. I like the expression on its face. Also, something seems a little off about the wing structure, though it's workable. Supersack: What is it, exactly? To get the "furry" effect on my reddish cat, I used the palette knife tool in ArtRage; I simply did a kind of "curly" motion outwards from the basic shape. I'm not sure what program you use and if it has a similar tool, but you could always download the free version of ArtRage and try it out. The full version can apparently open .psd files. EDIT: I tried to do a "forest at night" scene (again with the mouse, and still with the trial version of the program). ![]() I feel like I'm half-getting it and half-completely-off-the-mark. Any critique would be appreciated. |

Esn: I really like the foreground, like the trees and stuff, but I think that the sky is off, maybe try adding more colors nad make the moon blend in more? Here is something I made in like 30 mins:

If you had a bit more time, you could try blending the colours a little, so you get more of a smooth gradation rather than visible strokes. |

As do I. But you can blend the colours and still retain the painted look. See here (or what I did in my "dark forest" painting). Well, I've never used Photoshop, so I don't know if you can do the same thing...On the other hand, perhaps you're searching for something like this? |

Super sack, i agree with esn on this. The sketchy look can be appealing, and i respect that you are attempting to do it, but what your problem is, is uniformity! What i mean is that for the sketcy paint look you are aiming for you need to direct the eye using level of finish, so certain details such as an eye or other feature should be tight, but other aspects should be rough. Have a look at craig mullins he is a great inspiration. http://goodbrush.com/cpg146/albums/finishe...g_gladiator.jpg Notice how you can visually see his storkes, yet is still looks clean in places! Here is a little paint over of your work :). Notice how i tightened up certain areas. Also what i did is added in a secondary blue light, which serves to make the image look a lot more fresh. Also i punched up the contrast on the eye to make it a focal point, and tightened it up. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e305/muz...z6paintover.jpg |
