thats a bit of an old fashion remark, but i do agree with it. lol. do ya think cavemen said "put that paper down and draw on walls. walls were invented before paper ya know."
its all good. there should be no rules in art. art is such an open ended medium that should be expressed in any way shape or form, as along as it shows uniqueness and creativity. lol, thats my saying for today. lol, but there is a rule: its a sketch thread. |

actually i posted this thread, because of a convo in another thread where i was saying most people here are making the big mistake of animating before they learn to draw, thats really not a good process to go by.yeh u can still animate, but if u can't even draw a hand or arm properly,it will relfect in ur animations. ask adam. i guess i'm not *professional* enough to get u guys to understand.but i'll do my best. later |

yeah i agree, but i dont see how people drawing on a computer wont help them learn, yeah i know its not a primitive as paper, and probably wouldnt teach u the complete use of pencil techniques, but there is a level of understanding and learning involved in computer art. and if ya can draw well on a computer means u are set for animating on a computer. Know what i mean

how to draw hands... your characture doesn't need hands... but if you want... just draw like... rectangles but curved where the finger will be... then draw lines to seperate the fingers... and if that doesn't look right, then erase and do it again untill it does... (least thats what I do) |

well ive decided that my character doesnt really need fingers, so im just gonna give him glove type hands with a thumb, as you can see on my new sketch (animators only thread). thanks for the tips anyway. |

Wow, this thread is going barnstormers! wooHOO!
I love it. This is just my opinion but I think that the whole point (of this particular thread) is simply to draw, and draw lots! Doesn't matter what you draw, how you draw it or what you use to draw it with as long as you are practising your craft. As an example, a few posts back there was some talk about drawing hands (one of the hardest things to get right whether it's for toons or for life drawings). On this particular topic I have to side with Noob and say, "don't give up". But rather, draw lots of hands. Draw them in different styles. Examine your own hands and watch hands in action when you're out and about. See how people hold things and manipulate objects.. observe the differences between womens hands and mens hands; children and old people; dogs and cats for crisakes! Seriously. Have you ever compared the bone structure between a humans hand, a dogs paw and a dolphins flipper? Check it out! But the whole time you're doing this artistic observing you should be able to pull out your sketch pad and pencil and jot down what you see. THAT is the point of this thread, or if I'm wrong, it should be. imho. As always the sketches are great and I'm glad to see so much activity on here. I'm late posting my sketch of the day but I noticed that on my last submission I messed up the hands on some of my characters so perhaps I'll do a workup on that... I dunno, depends on where the mood takes me... there's no real rules after all. btw, all the people in my sketches are people I've seen that day. Well, usually. Haven't seen a brass monkey here for a while now. Cheers all, gotta run and have dinner with friends. But (Arnold ON) I'll be back (/Arnold OFF).

i think the whole idea of the picture is that its exaggerated........ Its blatently obvious that bitey doesnt hav muscles like that, and its blatently obvious that thats the whole point of the picture. Its a comic cartoon of bitey. Its... not... serious So what if its not exactly how muscles would become? lol. I like it, not too sure on the arms but hey, its good. I think the idea that we have to study anatomy a lot before we drew anything has become stupidly large. I find everywhere on the forum. people saying "Ahh, study anatomy!!!". WTF? You study anatomy when u draw! Because u learn what looks good and what looks real. You dont have to sit down with "HUGE BOOK OF ANATOMY" and """study""" it. You subconciously study it, its a natural ability. So can we just cool it on the idea that we have to study anatomy before starting drawing. ......... Jack |

no we can't. most of what u just sed is wrong.actually...all. u do not exagerate anatomy before u know what muscle goes where and so on. u know what...do as u wish...sooner or later u'll have to go back. so what if its not exactly how the muscles wud become ?? ehm....its wrong,u want him to draw it wrong for the rest of his life??u think comic books editors and animators didn't study anatomy,u think they want an animator who can't even draw an arm.??? u'll learn. and yes...this thread is serious. |

Actually all of what i said is true. You can learn in thousands of different ways that just reading a book! and learning is a natural ability.
What!? Yeah, maybe it'd matter if it was a real-life drawing... But its a cartoon! Since when did i say this thread wasnt serious? I was talking about the picture!! u just gotta lighten up n00b. So what if people dont sit down and study anatomy like u do. We, or at least i, """study""" anatomy through practise. whats:
S'posed to be all about?!? I agree with most of what MiG said. A good way to learn is to sketch what u see or what u have seen.... But that doesnt mean u cant attempt it until ur a "suP3r 0wnz0rz" master of anatomy. |
