6mins nurbs? jeez.

i was plannin sumthin along those lines too,but as i have painted bgs,i thought about shortening it.

Why will I be introuble? What makes you think I NEED reference? I didn't trace it..

Well, I dont think you'd be in trouble. It looks great so far=)
And It probably would be even better after you colour it with with the photo as shadow\colour reference=)

aw, poor Noob. Everybody has to disagree with him in some way in this thread=)
But im shure he did'nt meant what he said. Or atleast it came out wrong;)

where did that come from? jeez

where did i say u need reference?

where did i say u traced?

i'm saying u'd be in trouble if u keep using ref or u'd struggle in the animation biz.

just tryin to help.

i'm f**kin pissed now.

i'm off.

i felt my girlfriends breast and now i'm over it.

looks great jet,i see sum issues, conans muscles seem jelly like.especially in the right arm.

i obviously can see how u where offended now,i had never seen any of ur other stuff.and u probably thought i was sayin u where crap without ref.which i didn't mean at all.

anyway keep it up

background perspective is off in comparison to the characters btw.the horizon should be much lower.

Wasn't offended...I just get over-excited when I think my credibility is at stake...thats all..

I'm more of a comic guy than an animator, but I respect the importance of understanding large ranges of motion for characters WITHOUT ref....LOTS of comic artists trace directly from photos! dead serious! I HAD NO IDEA!!!

As for Conans jelly muscles...Like I said, no ref...and Im sure if I was a better colorist, I may hve been able to "sculpt" a more realistic physique on him...but I kinda like making my characters ripple with muscles that shouldnt be there....As for the horizon...I aimed the shot so you were kinda looking down on the two characters (which is why Dragon's positioned up higher than Conan)....but if it looks off to you, aint no explaining gonna change that....

dude cmon,i'm getting a really *hey i hate NOOB!* vibe from u.

i know what u where going for indeed, yes to me it looks off, post this on a professional comic forum and i'm sure they will agree.hit me up if u want links to forums

i take a good look at this piece agen,if u cover up conan,u see how the savage dragon perspective works, yet when cover up savage, conan looks off,i dunno if u can see it.

i created this thread to help people out,not hurt any ones feelins.

whats this i hear about people tracing from ref comics?? no no no that is so wrong, most of the comic artists i know and met and have been published along side don't use reference at all,and the ones that do use ref certainly don't trace it,they use it as a guide.

check out the loomis books,i posted the links bout a page or two ago,it'll help u understand perspective better.

and now i actually remember some of ur work,u did sum progidy comics right?that was great work.

noob, you told me to do so...

Ok, i'm gonna work on drawing alot this summer. I got a few different shades of pencil for drawing and a sketch pad for one. No more note books with lines tongue.gif Ok, I don't have a problem with like positions, I have a problem with what hands, feet, and heads look like. Anyone else have this problem? Here's a sketch I made last night. I know the bigger one's arm is to long, but that's about it with him. His hand isn't the right direction either, I have problems with that. The guy on the right isn't really much work, just a like 2-3 minutes throw together. His legs are messed. I need help on how I can draw faces, hands, and feet/shoes. Any suggestions?

Need help making these better.

we are gunna have to take it slow my friend,as u know anatomy is HARD,and u can't rush this,u gotta take it in steps.

first i suggest i u start with the head, cos the head kinda determins the proportions of the rest of the figure.

the average humans body is 6- heads tall.i see ur attempting a 3/4 view,i did this quick head step by step quite a while ago.

Posted Image

use that as a guide for the head, from there u should roughly construct the body using shapes, unfortunately i don't have time to draw that up right now,but go back a page or two and check out the loomis links i posted, this will explain it in pure detail.

i will make a tut eventually, loomis is a little more complex,i plan to make sumthin a lil bit more simple for begginers.

i'll try and do one soon.

I dont hate you NOOB....I meant, I wont waste time trying to tell anyone how the perspective works...I will let the piece speak for itself...

I frequent Darkorse/Image/J. Scott Campbell forums quite a bit....didnt really get any feedback on this Dragon/Conan pic...

Well, Ive been looking through comic forums asking about Rotoscoping photos, and most feedback boiled down to - Comic pencilillers dont get paid enough NOT to trace certain things....Honestly, sounds good to me...why would I want to waste countless hours drafting out the PERFECT angles of a hot sports car, when I could trace a skeleton of it, and fill in the details with my own style....I know Im gonna get burned alive for saying that, but call me lazy...I hate drawing angular structures that fail to look real unless EVERY LINE IS PERFECT...I would much rather go photograph something, and use it as a guidline

Yup, I did the Prodigy comics...

heh jet,i won't burn u at all.

but if ur gunna keep doin that, please do not show up at comic book conventions, cos when a fan of urs asks u draw a character for em,and u whip out a magazine photo and trace the skeleton, they will slowly...back.... away. ;)

good luck with future work! ;) hope u animate soon too.

Okay...Ive spent my WHOLE life drawing Characters....but I wasnt a 10 year old kid drawing worm eye view shots of sky scrapers, or dynamic perspective car shots though...When I talk about tracing photos, I mean angular objects whose lines MUST be precise in order to allow the reader to accept those objects...such as cars/buildings/airplanes/overhead city shots...stuff like that...I can draw people characters, organic things w/out reference because nature allows for a certain give&take of size and shape...most architecture and engineering DOES NOT....I mean, if I draw a little charicature of a guy, and make one eye bigger than the other...it gives him a certain character, makes him "unique"...If I draw a car and one wheel is larger than the others, your brain will automatically register that the car is incorrectly designed...something is wrong...that car is WRONG....of course there are variations and exceptions, but my point is that if I want to draw a badass race car in my comic I can either

A) spend painstaking hours drafting it out with precise perspective and balance...basically what car designers get paid TONS of money to do...

OR

B ) use a photo of a badass race car in the same angle, trace basic guidlines in which to work with, and stylize it to blend with the rest of the art....
