Noob's right about the crack looking like veins.
But you can use highlight on the cracks if you want.
You just got to place them on the oposite side;)

i can hardly see the crack highlights u mentioned, now i can just see dark lines on the wrist thing.

which is what i sed in the first place, may aswell just be dark lines, maybe ur technique would work better with bigger cracks??

........

anyway, com, question, how do u go about planning music for a short?do u animate first and then add the music after,or what?

cos i dunno where to begin.

:gasp:

Comlock you gave the arm/hand cracks as if it were stone. My viens were right, the cracks on the wrist rock was the issue.

Looks kool though.

No doubt, a lil bit of Com a lil bit of NOOB mix and shake, shake it all in.

I thought Com makes small cracks while NOOB makes bigger ones why the hell not mix it up.

I thank you NOOB and Comlock.

very good hand, the only crit i have is the overall refinement in the fingers, makes it looks like his fingers are sausage links, try not to make them so round.

only hint the lines in the finger.

Yeah I know what N00B is saying, its easy to just go a little too far with making each index of the fingers.

Heres a quick drawing I did while I was riding the train the other day, I don't know how long it took, but it was 3 stops so I'm guessing it was about 6 minutes.

It's not pefect but I hope it helps.

The best way to get good with realistic hands is to draw you're own, over and over in all sorts of posistions. I still have a ways to go.

yeah I really like that hand study, my hands are a little different from the study, because I noticed that my pointer may be a bit longer then my index, and I dunno about my pinky at this point.

I decided to do this realy quick after looking at that.

I know my hand is not in the posistion that the guide shows, but I tried to emulate my drawn hand, but it's still not exact. Meh I'm wasting work time, but I like this discussion.

One book that has really helped me out is a book my Burne Hogarth called Drawing Dynamic Hands...It has 141 pages of just instruction on how to draw the hand in 3d space. He also says that the most awkward positions to draw are the forshortened ones.. He is one of my personal heros and I own 2 others by him called Dynamic firgure drawing and one titled Anatomy...

I think one of the things that enjoy immensley about his books inparticular is learning how to invent forms and what i mean by that is thinking about a body pose and having no problem what so ever creating from the imagination instead of relying on an already generic pose taken from reference material..

yeh hogarth has a great book on folds and drapery that i reccomend.

his anatomy books are frowned upon in the art world though, artists say his books aren't the best for learning anatomy.

but i never bought one so i wudn't know.

oh of course forshortnened drawings are totally the most difficult because it may look normal in real life but when you draw it, yowza, suddenly you lose everything.

And he's the same age as me as well.

yeh i was browsin on cgtalk wondering wtf was goin on with the master and servant judgin and came across it,thought u'd be interested in his process.

u don't need art school man,it only teaches u stuff u already know or cud find online, unless u really need the qualifcations, its no big deal in my opinion.

can't wait to see sum pics finished com.

oh and a heads up....just because he uses painter doesn't mean u have to. ;) u can do exactly the same things with photoshop.

yeah=) Its not that I want to go to an art university to learn how to be better.
Its just that I should have chosen that when I had that option.
(And you can buy drawing applications for a cheaper price when you go there?
In Norway you need to pay about 1000 USD for photoshop :o )
(I bought it on Ebay though;) )
