Well, Max 7 comes with great tutorials in the help section that describe how to do most anything. Also, if you go to the support section on Discreets site, they have video demos of the new features in Max 7. |

Yay nudity! She doesn't look out like much like a fish, but I'm still digging it! Amazing. Just like Goo's environment you posted earlier. I see you're into hindi-themed stuff too?

Texturing seems to be coming along well. I sort of miss the peach-fuzz felt type texture on her before, but it was probably too out of place.
I have a pretty cool 'gold' statue of ganesh in my house. But I don't really like how they colour their paintings and statues, to be honest. It's a bit too bright and solid for my taste. In the batu caves in Malaysia, there was a pretty cool museum inside a cave with life-sized statues of the gods. The colours were still a bit saturated and glosy to me, but it was fun to see. |

Goo is coming out really nice Humble (wait did i say that right?
......OK)Did you do the textures in Photoshop? I don't like the process of having to unwrap the geometry...I've tried it once and almost flipped a nutty... |

Textures in Photoshop. UV unwrapped with some awesome free tools that I posted earlier in this thread. Unwrapping is still a bitch, but it's the only way to get convincing textures. Otherwise you end up with some procedural mess that looks amatuerish.... |

awesome Humbleego!!
But maby it would look better without the human skin area? maby replace it with another colour? how about smaller spots or something else for texture. Just a suggestion.. I have no idea realy..=) And are you using "SSS"(makes light shine trough a thin surface) on the finns? (looks like you are) I would look great if you made some blood veins that only was viewable when the lightsource got behind the finns Im so looking forward to see the whole movie!!

well, i can kind of understand where both of you guys are comming from, cuz she looks amphibious, kinda reminds me of a frog, and if u look at the bottom of a frogs belly, its kind of a more pale color, maybe if you gave it a little bit of an orangish tint or something, cuz the peach does look a little bit out of place, but I do think the belly should have a slighty paler color then the rest of the body. it would also be cool if the fins were see through, and veiny (i think someone said that already) |

I'm not using subsurface scattering, It would be wonderful to do so, but it would like increase my render time by x10. I'm just using a translucent map in a raytraced material. Looks like this: ![]() As it stands, I'm looking at 10-20 minutes PER FRAME! Which isn't crazy long by Pixar standards, but is far beyond what my of my classmates when doing. Stupid awesome looking light tracer and sky light.... <_< Anyway, you're right though, I totally forgot the veins! *smacks himself*.
I've gotten comments on this from a few other people and even a teacher. But I'm gonna be stubborn basterd on this one. Goo is not a fish, not a frog and not human. She's a goo and I wanted her to be odd and attractive at the same time. Color wise, orange and peach was always the plan. Further, I didn't want her to me monochromatic. That's part of the reason for the peachy belly and face, and I pulled in some purple in the creavaces. I am however, changing the nipple color to match her lips. Someone brought that up in class today and I thought that made sense. Perhaps this will help with her "too human-belly feel" Anyway, thank for your comments everyone...

Needs more details, like wrinkles, spots etc, with other words I think it need a bit more diversity. Hey guys, I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool to do a skinning contest, like Dave or Nurbs sends us a UV (allong with a lightmap of that UV if possible) and we could mess it up

i think it would be kinda cool if there were 3d modeling competitions, that lasted like 2 months or something, but prolly not for animation, since most hte progs are expensive, but if it was on modeling the person could just take a screen shot. for example, adam could say, make a model of a fish, then the person does it, then the person with the most accurate, or most entertaining look wins. |

They have weekly and monthly challenges on forums like CGTalk, Polycount and the like. I think the only problem with doing it here is that this seems to be fairly focused on 2D animation. This makes it relatively unique, as far as bigger art forums. I rather like it that way. If I need 3D stimulation, I just jump over to polycount. |

wow dave thats looking frigging sweet. what dont u like? hearing this stuff about UV this, Unwrapping that just gives me a headache, and i dont even know what or how its done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- some of my crap. nothing compared to everyone elses stuff but illl post it anyway. My gf designed a relaxation centre for her interior design year project thing. and they usually have to use a program called Archicad, which is a ball bag of a program to use. its awful and awfully hard. so i decided to help her using swift 3D (which at the time was very new to me) these are some renders of the relaxtion centre. the centre employs "elements" like earth wind fire and water. and is actually based on inflatable structures. (ever seen inflatable structures? they are really cool, and they dont look like professional bouncey castles lol) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the main middle dome= waiting area 4 smaller domes= wind room which contains "breathing beds" surrounded by waving ribbons Earth room= a tactile room Water room= balls u sit in floating on water with water reflections projected over the ceiling Fire room= 9 soft bean bad typ seats where u sit in a yoga position looking at a massive fire feature (bit like a lava lamp) these are the bare boned renders before details were added in Photoshop. Im quite happy as it was my first time using Swift. WHAT A HEADACHE! |

thanks man. mainly her design. its hard to understand the structure itself, but the ideas make a lot of sense. her moderator said its a great idea and could easily be built which was great. her final boards displaying and describing her work look good, and explain a lot. anyone think of BIODOME? that movie rocks lol. but thanks again nurbs. more enthusiasm with Swift now. |

Holy crap! I just finished watching a demo for "ZBrush", and it looks unbelievable. I never thought I could be impressed by a 3d modeler, but this is amazing. Check it out here: http://pixologic.com/zbrush/media_links/movies.html They have a 15 minute video for the making of a fish. So do any of you 3d pros have this program? If so, please show what you've made with it. (sorry for spamming this thread )
