Illustration Activity Series B #4 Dream Painting The Challenge: Illustrate one of your most emotional dreams in a style/color/medium that effectively conveys the mood of the dream. The Due Date: Open Ended The Medium and Colors: Preferably something more than just a B/W sketch. Try using Photoshop, Painter, Flash, etc. in a expressive fashion. You may also use traditional mediums (real paint, pastels, etc). The Rules: 1) Must be your dream. 2) If the dream contains questionable/disturbing content, such as nudity/excessive violence, post a link to it instead of directly displaying it in the post. Label it as such. Some folks don't like the nekkid. The Point: To illustrate a passionate and familar subject via style and medium. The Examples (other artists): Dali ![]() Unknown Artist ![]() Unknown Artist ![]() Unknown Artist ![]() The Advice: What tools and technique you use are critical here. Think about the predominate emotion and decide on style/color/medium based on that. Perhaps it was a warm comfortable dream, then you might do a collage using soft fabrics. If it's an angry dream, you could limit your palette to red and black and use a messy/splattering ink treatment. If it was confusing, prehaps use a blurrly loose painting style. You get the idea. Use the feeling you get from varies style/color/mediums as tools for expression. |

Now to remember a dream.... hmmmm.... There was this reacurring dream I had when I was really young, but I've pretty much spent that on every school dream assignment up to this date. I'll make an effort to remember my dreams when I wake up tomorrow. I find that helps, by the way. When you wake up, before you do anything, think about your dream. I guess that's because our minds are designed to forget about them |

I've also heard it helps not speak before you think about what you've dreamt whne you wake up. For some reason talking about it before "remembering it" kills the memory.

Heres mine... I had this dream a few years back , and its stuck with me for a long time. I think it was right after my favorite uncle died from a herion (sp?) overdose. The feelings in the dream were very dark and scary at first and really emotional, but eventually the shadowy figure was comforting i got a feeling of relief somehow. I thought of portraying it a bit like a misunderstood angel or something. such as "An angel of death.... is still an angel" ![]() cheers, |

I had nightmares about "glava" (its a yellow isolation material used inside house walls, to keep the temprature inside the rooms.. I dont know if you've heard of it,) THey were attached to fences, and when they "saw" me the jumped from the fences and landed on me till I suffocated I dreamt that several times when I was younger (about 4 years old) maby it sounds stupid, but that was the most scariest dream I ever dreamt.. Maby I would draw that. Buy I think its a bit boring to draw an "evil" isolation material... <_< |

The reacuring dream I mentioned earlier was this: My Dad and brother brought me out to see a 'planet show'. It was like a hot-air balloon show, but for whatever reason the balloons in the air were replaced by big ol' planets. People would observe them from the icy surface at the edge of a botomless pit. Well not really a pit, but a canyon that went as far as they eye could see. (The planets were hovering above the canyon, so the edge was of course the best place to see them). Then my dad and brother left and I nearly slipped off the edge, but that's not the important part. Would make a cool painting, no? I'll wait it out a couple days to remember a dream, and if I can't, I'll just do that. |

Lots of people use sketchbook. What's the other one? Corel Painter? And Flash of course. I've noticed a decline of photoshop work since sketchbook came around, but that's always a favorite. For more information on these, check the raster graphics thread. Edit: By the way, excellent use of 'W's scattered throughout your exclamation marks. Creates a great effect.

Oooh, that would be an awesome painting!
I had a nightmare last night that my friend and I bought wacom pads at a convenience store. After awhile for some strange reason they broke! The plastic covers on them shattered somehow and we were pissed and trying to take them back. That would be a very depressing painting, a smashed wacom pad . . .but pardon my nerdiness, I won't mention it again . . .
 A wee photo I manipulated with photoshop based on dreams:
