What I want to talk about is coincidence (yeah, not scary, but I don't think it quite fits with topics in 'anything stories' forum). For example, the other day, I was walking around the parking lot, doing my job (never you mind what), when suddenly someone dropped a penny. For some reason, I focused hard on that event (probably due to lack of entertainment). I thought to myself 'that man dropped a penny' and began scavenging through the event, trying to somehow get inspiration from it, like we artists often do. Well anyways, as I thought about the penny, seconds later, someone else dropped a penny, just feet away. I turned to them, and thought 'hey, they dropped a penny too' and again thought about that event. Seconds later, I heard another clink, and turned to witness a person leaning over to pick up a penny that they had dropped. I stopped thinking about it and heard nothing more. Then I scuttled away, surprisingly nervous. Event like this used to occur to me at least three times a day. I'd think of something completely random and would hear or see it seconds later. I brought up a subject of something I heard about Mexico, and that very second, we turned a corner to be greeted by two Mexican flags. My most recent happening, and one of my favorites, happened in front of a video store. I stood beside a car waiting for the person inside to unlock it, and heard a faint sound in the distance, like a song, that again lead my mind to solely focus upon it, like it was somehow significant. My friend unlocked the car and I sat in. He turned the car on, and from the radio came a song by Pink Floyd CD, and the melody that played was the exact same I heard outside. I have never heard this song before (I don't listen to the Pink, sorry) and I wasn't paying attention enough to notice if the part had already played before we turned the radio off, let alone to think about it enough as to recollect it from my memory. Nonetheless, I was spooked. My theories are that perhaps, by focusing upon something, you are capable of igniting an event by sharing your feeling with people around you. Sometimes when you think about dropping something, you actually do it. Perhaps that's waht happened in the penny story, I forced those within a close range of me to think about dropping something and they did. Another one of my theories is that coincidences are perhaps inspired by future events that you "predict" subconciously, like what might've happened in the Pink Floyd story. Yet another is that by thinking of something, you are capable of actually moulding your environment so that something you supposedly wish occurs. My final one is that they all might just be...a coincidence. Anyways, did you have any wierd coinkydinks? |

Ever had a time when you said something and the person next you said the SAME thing. That happened me today, accept with five people, excactly simultaniously saying the same thing. It was sooo cool. But this may be due to the fact that we and my friends know eachother waaaay to well. |

That is much like what happens with me. For example, I could be waiting for someone, and as soon as I think to myself "Where is that person?" they appear from around the corner walking towards me. Another example is, I could be flipping through a dictionary and I find a word that I've never heard of before, I read the meaning and the next day I notice that word in a worksheet or I hear it on television. Keep in mind that I unintentionally discovered the word in the dictionary. |

yeah the thing with finding out what a word means, and then hearing it happens alot, i think we hear alot of words we dont know, and we block them out you know? we just ignore them, then once we know them and hear them were like "hey I just learned that!" it seems like coinsidance, but I dont think it is. -Nick |

Yeah, but if I find a word I don't know the meaning of, I usually keep it in the back of my mind so I remember to look it up when I get a dictionary. It was like one time when I found the word 'goy' in my dictionary (a goy is someone who is not Jewish) and later that day my friend asked me what a goy was. It was a weird coincidence to say at the least. |

well, you probably aren't causing those things to happen, its much more likely that you can predict the future a few seconds ahead of time. hmmm... oh, and that thing where you start seeing a word after you learn it happens to me to. like, i'll learn a word ive never heard before then suddenly start hearing a lot of people say it. my un-supernatural theory is that you just dont really notice people saying something until you understand what they mean. |

Like when you see a car on the road, and you pay attention to it and mentally your taking notes on it. Then you start seeing the cars on the rad everywhere, because your mind chooses to notice them, unlike before you "checked it out". |

lol nice theory.. I'm such a jackass, when I learn a big word I weave it in to normal conversation.. but I do it to much so they kno I just learned it.. I tried it with "wayward" lol I got ragged on. -Nick |

Yeah, stuff happens. Just now, I scrolled over a link in the music forum (it was in Lord Julian's sig) and in the status bar came up a website with the name "Omunai" in it and suddenly, the next poster (or the one after it) in the thread mentions the name Omunai in a totally irrelevant conversation (the topic was about the instruments you play, so the name came out of nowhere). Of all the links I ever found, I scroll over the one mentioned on the same topic (the link is titled "here" in LJ's signature). It was really strange, it's as if someone saw me scroll over it and felt like commenting on it. This is the thread Last few posts is where I looked up the link and a person mentioned it (which is also their first post). And another thing happened. I told my friend if he ever saw someone shart. Well, you can prolly guess what happened next. |

Some times it may be coincidence sometimes not. Mother Earth have some secrets and mysteries. |
