I think Z-Brush renders a a blend of high poly and normal maps realtime rather then a few million polys at once. Like small detail geometry will be rendered into a normal map rather then another 60000 polys. I wouldn't know why it doesn't slow down otherwise...

Well yes. When it comes to PC games you have to keep everyone in mind, even people still on their 233 mhz machines (I remember when that speed computer was top of the range :D).

Consoles are a lot easier to create art for as they're all the same. One person's Xbox is not going to be able to handle any more polygon's than someone else's. With the next-gen consoles you're going to see some serious polygon-pushing power. Have you seen any Xbox 360 videos? A lot of these games will be ported to the PC so people are going to have to do some hardware upgrading to keep up. PC gamers who don't are left behind. In this respect, people with lower-end machines aren't catered for as much anymore.

What baffles me is that Zbrush can handle something on the order of a few MILLION polys at once without slowdown, yet Maya and 3Ds Max start spazzing after a few thousand. There's probably a good reason for it, but it still confuses me.

Yeah, I've yet to figure out that one myself. I suspect part of it is basic Zbrush is less robust in it's features so it can assign more mem to handling polys. Max & Maya are everything 3D and ZB is mostly modeling and texturing. But, I have no idea really, i'm just talking out of my ass. :bfoot:

What with the improvements in gaming technology there's no such thing as 'low poly' anymore anyway.

Well, not in the console market, but the new handhelds are low poly. :P

Hiya Yembles, loving the sci-fi environment docking bay...... thingy. :P
http://www.neek.co.uk/dockside1.jpg
What is this bay? Is this the a shaft to the enter of the docking port? a mine shaft?
If it's a mine shaft, wouldn't it benefit a crain which gains to the materials underground?
So, are you planning to insert a large crain device hanging above the mine shaft. Or am I miles out and it's something completally different?

I do like what I see. Are you going to apply any textures at the end of the modelling or is it for modelling pratices?

I'll be honest Addz, I've no idea what it is. :D

I think there's some sort of power generator down there, hence all the pipes and wires that lead into it.

Or maybe it's a big swimming pool. :gasp:

I don't know about texturing. I have a really hard time with texturing. I might give it a go though.

There's still more modeling to come though. I don't think I'm even half way through the tutorial yet. :gasp:

Wow Yembles that's looking really cool, whatever it is. If I knew anything about 3d then I would offer you some useful advice. :P

Looks like your enjoying flash 8 there noob! And the cool thing is that you can use all the effects like that you want without hurting performance too badly if you cache the symbol as a bitmap. As long as you don't resize it, you can tween that sucker around with performance ease!

Well.... this ain't the kind of thing you normally get in this thread, but there is a ton of art/animation/layout in there. Plus, I don't feel like reviving the ancient thread I made on it a while ago. ;)

Kimblis the Blue

The level select button does nothing, and there are no sound effects. Other than that, the first three levels are completely playable.

Thanks! :D

I think Little can balance himself sitting like that, though. XD Haha, he's a bloody freak of nature. He's a long scrawny cat with a lot of loose skin and he can flex his joints like no other cat I've ever seen. XD Ah...he's all-round quite weird, really.

What do you guys think of this drawing?

Cool stuff Swash, I really love your style. The second pic is good, the tattering of the cloth was done well. The disconnected beads on the hair-things works well. Only a couple of things I that could be touched up: The eyebrows above the hair dosn't work well I think, it's more suited to Manga, inappropriate style to use it in. Also that nose is pretty nuts, that's the only thing that's really wrong with it, I have no idea what's going on in the nose are  Apart from that I love it, you've really used everything you could in the picture to indicate the wind - the cloth, the hair, the necklace, even the collars! Good stuff. (There's that long neck again :P)

Hiya guys, this is what i'm working on at the moment.
A portfolio website, I'm learning abit of actionscript. There's nothing much in context wise. I'm working on how you (the user) navigate though the website. The only button working at the moment is the 'portfolio'. You'll see how it unpacks itself.

Here's the link to the portfolio website.

If you got any suggestions or problems with it, let me know.
Please note, it's still in development. ;)

hehe thanks, ;P
I don't know if i should add some sounds (popping souund effect) and music to it.
Plus, I'm not to sure off to animate it unpacking the whole website. I dont want to bore my audience because of the slow unpacking animation effect. Unless I make it unpack at a fast pace? Hum Anyways. Thanks for your feedback. Anyone else got anything to about it?

to rynaz: some nice backgrounds dude, the skies are cool. not much else i can really comment on. at the start when the magic carpet silohette thing (?) is flying along the background, middle ground, and foreground arent moving the way they should. ( i take it they are the backgrounds?)

hope this describes it a bit better:

its not much but u may get the idea.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

to addz: cool site man, liking the bubbles. one thing i found wrong, is ur portfolio thingy. as i move my mouse left or right the scroller menu scrolls the wrong way. if i try to click on something to the right of the mouse the menu system shifts right and viceversa. did that make sense. try it urself. shouldnt it shift to the right if my mouse is going left? and again viceversa.

i also think ur name adam zgaldgo and motion graphics etc are too fine, and a dont stand out enuf, or in other words look slighly blurred. to crisp up ur text make sure the text box is placed on a whole pixel. what i mean is, open ur info panel and check the X and Y coordinates of the text box, making sure its on a whole pixel like x: 245 y: 87, rather than x:245.3 y: 87.6, just round them up and it shud look crisper. but if u already know that, then i wud maybe suggest that they shud stand out more or look fuller and more crisp. other than those 2 wee things i like it alot mate. (btw, where u from originally, cuz ur name dont look UKish, sorry im nosey :D )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

to rade, man u need to use different fonts. add more animations, and when someone answers a phone they dont usually talk with their turbin, or forehead, they use and ear and a mouth. ur guy puts the phone to his forehead. plus ur sound and animation is out of sync, the sound and speech happen before the animation. (set ur sound properties to stream)

Lol, zgaldgo. His name is Zygadlo :P He's UK born but his name originates from Poland. (Correct me if I'm wrong Addz, I'm pretty sure that's right though  )Rade ease up abit with the motionguided globes, they're fun to use but in this situation they're just unnesecary. Juggz the talking with the turbin comment made me roflmao :P

Juggz, it might be because I'm high on on Oreos and Whipped-cream or the fact that it's close to mindight here and I havn't slept since 1 am, but that deconstruction is the funniest thing I have seen all week. I would put it in my sig, but unfortunately I'm not of the original 50. Siggy, wanna do me a favor and put the scooby doo mummy and biscuits in your sig? :P I should get some sleep....and stop eating Oreos :gasp:
