Black guy.
|
fuck that, it took me forever to nail that style. the guy in shades does look like ian, yes. but i think i've been able to sort out minor differences to save myself some legal trouble. if you notice, ian has red hair. the guy in shades has brown hair. im very tricky.

![]() A little Explanation, if you don't mind: This is a Previs of a secondary character from what I hope will be my next animation. He's a shop-keeper at a general store, and he is a clockpunk style robot. It is VERY incomplete, as he is actually supposed to be connected to the store itself through various arms and cogs. You might think of it as the store being the actualy robot, and the shopkeep is actually just a humanoid face to identify with. I was excited to start working on this, as it was the one image the convinced me to start production on this movie. It came to me late at night for about 3 seconds, and I scrambled for pen and paper so I could sketch him as it was swiftly fading from my imagination. So right now, I need suggestions on the concept, and how I can seperate him from his background. Any shots with him will be VERY busy, as there will be a lot of mechanisms working behind him, and I don't know how I will do this. Probably something to do with making him a brighter colour. Any suggestions on depth would be nice. And I know I won't be able to pull of those crazy textures. Besides being distracting, it would murder the flash player. I don't like murdering.... usually. I used them here to help me get a sense of the materials. And on the note of textures: Thanks Humble Sorry for the long-winded explanation. Thoughts? Great stuff, I love the colors in the bottom one. There's a little too much chaos in the center, so I'd work on toning it down slightly. I love the nested clam shapes below and above the center; they look like coral.
For future reference, 3D stuff generally goes in the 3D Art Gallery |

Well, the render itself is just abstracts created in any 3d program. Let it be lightwave, maya, 3d studio max, cinema 4d. There's alot of tutorials around on how to make them... now for the brushing. That parts hard. Here's my step by step so far. I just take a brush at size 5, put opacity to 5% and first work on highlighting.. then filling in more color. The splash effect is still new to me and i'm not too good at it. http://www.applepics.com/gallery/dawhat/24879/ |

Try to be a bit more playfull with your text, enlarge it, use some pixel stretches, tilt it, use different fonts, etc... |

Well, text will be the last step in this. I'm working on using color dodge for the first time, I guess it's coming along average. I overdid it alot though. |

![]() Character design. I still don't have him right because he needs to look noble and graceful in one scene, and gruff, rude, and impatient in the next scene. Edit: Does he remind you of anyone? I didn't use any reference, nor am I a fan of fantasy art, but I have a feeling I've seen him before... |

Good stuff Mook! It kinda reminds of the dog from The Never Ending Story but yours looks a wee more grim... If you need him to express certain emotions, i'd recommend doing an expression sheet to explore the character...... |

Hey, that's what I was thinking of! The huge dog. I can't take any credit for copying from that directly, since I haven't seen the movie in nearly a decade. And an expression sheet is the next step. These were just seeing if I could pull a bunch of shapes together to make a solid looking head, which I think went well. Now for emotions. Then his body (He also needs to function as both a swift quadriped and a biped) He looks gruff in these sketches, but I want to push it further. Obnoxious, rude, greedy, a glutton. The kind of guy who scratches his ass whenever he feels like it. Picks his nose and then shakes your hand. You know? As you can see it's a hard transition from having a noble appearance to being obnoxious, but I hope the effect it has on the viewer is worth while. Do you guys want me to keep you updated on this project, or could you not care less? |

Rabbit from Winnie The Pooh Great work, Dawhat-- the arcs of light are right on! Might I suggest giving them more common intersections, so it looks as if they're eminating from somewhere? I think it looks awesome. ![]() It's good to see people are putting submissions into the Alias Sketchbook comp! Nice job on your paintbrush knight there, Villageidiot! The shadow is well done, along with the shading. Emboldening the outlines will sharpen him up a bit more before you colour him!

![]() I suppose this is the right place to post this since I am still working on the other sheets. Uhm, one of my flash project characters, Una. Her looks are mostly based on me, but she's waaay too much stern to ever be me X3 I suppose I'll post a few of these later. |

Nope jubs, the sword and the foot aren't tangents. Nice try.
Her skin is getting lost in the background right now, so color that background. Add a shadow to define the ground. Also, keep in mind that the sword is by far the darkest thing in her design, and when that scabbard is on the screen it will be the first thing to grab the audience's eye. If this isn't what you want, I'd make the brown paler or get rid of the scabbard all together. Not a whole lot to say, it's pretty nice: Good construction and proportion. I assume this is for animating? I like the slight masculinity of her face. It makes her a little more interesting for a girl. |
