You're right Neyals, it does seem a bit bare. I've set the site container to a certain width (950px) and centered it. This prevents the main content from falling underneath the sidebar and also makes the page look a bit more substantially. Compare and contrast, if you will. Please crit. Especially regarding colour schemes. Any ideas? Old page New page Which do -you- prefer?

I dig it Yems! I'd probably make the text a little smaller and keep the sizes consistent through out the rest of the pages. For example, make all your headers a size 12 and the text 9... Above all it all comes down to just playing with layout schemes and graphics. Did you board out the layout for the site or did you dive right it with no initial planning? Im working on my second incarnation now and i must say that if i didn't sketch out my ideas and take notes i would have lost half of my ideas.... Hope that helps |

Thanks guys.
I did sketch out basic layouts and site hierarchies in order to choose one I liked best. I posted this on the last page on this thread actually, find it below. -- EDIT Been working on it some more. Three of the links go to places now. (OMGWOW) Colour scheme too blue? Do I really -need- a links section? LATEST UPDATE --/EDIT

"404 Link not found" But hey, Yembles--- I love the latest centered one. It really commands a lot more attention and focus than the old layout. The colour layout is a great choice of colour, I think blue goes nicely with most metallic tones. However the blues on the new one are pretty sharp around the edges. (yes, it is too blue. ;)) If you tone the outer blue down to a more neutral gray/blue, the scrolling topbar doesn't stick out anymore, plus the blue in the middle of the page draws your attention right away. ![]() I used a tiny bit of down/up gradient on the border colour. P.S. Did you write all that gobblegok yourself!?

Darn. Mistyped the URL. Here's the correct one: Linky I took your advice AK and made the background greyer, same with the boxes of text. I've also started to texture the site by adding smooth topbars on some subelements. As always, let me know what you think. Humble: I love it! Where did the inspiration for that come from? |

Well, Yembles, I'm gonna be honest with you. In my opinion, that site seems awfully plain and not so awesome. ![]() See, it's kind of a collision of different styles and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it can look very cool in some cases. Your page just lacks that something that would bring all those different elements together. But yeah, I'm no expert and I probably couldn't design a better page. And I'm not trying to bring you down here, I just believe you could do better! And I like the thought of requesting a model.

You're right, elephant. The contrast between the header and the main content has been playing on my mind since I first created the site. I'm still in the process of 'texturing' the page. I need to bring the mechanical metally theme into the main part of the site (which, at the moment, has a more cartoony cell shadey theme to it which, as you can see, doesn't really mix well...). I'll keep working on it. --EDIT Updated. How does it look now? I'm going to attempt to make the area that is currently white look like a screen, if I can. Looking better? |

One thing i would say is that i dont know if thisa happened with everyonrs pc but it went all out of shape for me so...![]() Here i wouls say i love the new textures but i dont like the white around the date posted bit so try to make that the same texture but the only thing is that it might not line up... Also i dont like the part behind the button and it isnt centered which makes it look abit bad. Also the header doesnt line up together anymore and i think the dark blue of the nav buttons should be a different colour because i personally think they clash and so do the colour of the date posted part. But with the textures i really love them and i think you are proceeding very well and i hope overall it will be a great webpage. I love this texture by the way its a great way to fill up a space but not make it look to 'packed' if you know what i mean. ![]() So yes very nice website so far and if it just my pc making all the parts go out of line then i am sorry for that. Also if you are looking for a kind of metalic feel how about a texture like this: ![]() If it doesnt come clearly then it is like the stairs you get in factories. Or omething as simple as this: ![]() Sorry if this is a waste of your time but hey im trying to help
Good Luck! NeYals |

The lazer comes from the bunny. That's the dig. With this big cannon on his back, people will jump to the conclusion that the cannon is the weapon. In reality, tis the bunny that should be most feared. Magical and deadly. |

Hey Yem, not to be harsh or anything, but you should really pick up some more Photoshop tuts, the interface just isn't on par with the nice models you have there. Maybe you could MODEL your interface? PS: NEVER settle with the default bevel settings, play around with em! |

Sweet. A nice blue and white horizontal gradient would improve things significantly though. Like this 'ere: sky gradient Dead easy to do in flash Also a greater colour contrast between the two mountain ranges would help to further define the depth of your scene - so perhaps a darker, richer tone for the midground, and a washed out, paler colour for anything further away? example: mountains hope this helps I remember in primary school we were always picked on for copying art. It was a great taboo back then and often enforced by the student culture - for example, this one girl jasmine baker (name and shame baby!), claimed to have come up with these googly eyes - nothing original about them in hindsight, just your classic cartoon eyes - but anyone seen 'copying or adapting the style was given terrible grief. Complete BS of course. Anyway for years and years I was afraid to copy anything lol - but having grown up a bit and taken the advice of the good folk on this (and other) forums, I now try to use reference material for almost everything. I don't copy stuff straight out of course for my original work, but learn from the techniques, adapt, modify and then innovate. My advice is to use google's image tab and search for some great looking ref pics - and then get busy! more mountains |
