well, since Divine_Walrus critizised all about the anatomy and stuff, I guess I could comment the shading. I think it looks unfinnished becasue it still looks a bit flat.
I quickly painted some blue shadows with a soft large brush, and made more of the yellow highlight in front. I dont think mine turned out that great, and I know it's not 100% correct also, but you could try doing something in that diriection I guess. Just a suggestion :wbitey:

Unfortunately I don't know enough about shading and highlighting techniques and how to apply them, to accurately critique something in that respect, which is something I'm working on. Looks great Com, much more depth to it, you even added the glow on the face :P But shouldn't there be part of the upper-neck in shadow because it's behind the jaw which is in front of the light source? While looking more 3D though, I must admit that it loses some of what makes the creature appear to be so mythical...I don't know, it just seems to take something away from it.

in art at shcool we are studying surrealism, and that artwork looks like something we would find in one of the books that the teacher shows us. I really like it! ;)

However, no offense to comlock when i say this, but i personallly prefer anghenfil's original version, mainly because it is brighter, which makes it look like more of a mythical spiritual animal type thing, which is what i think anghenfil is trying to put across. But I also like to glow that you done comlock, the yellow glow on the face makes the little dangling bulb look brighter and cooler ;)

alright so my friend, Shawn L, drew this picture and sent it in to a local Beatles tribute band. They loved it so much they decided to use it for an album cover and are going to pay him, but only if he coloured it.

He had no idea where to start so I offered to screw around with it.

Here's the original. Heads up: bigger than 1100x1100 pixels!

and here's my WIP edit. 40 minutes in PS.

Well, something like this all of the crits are going to be subjective, there's no real definitive right or wrongs with this kind of thing. I dunno, if it's for a Beatles Tribute, shouldn't it be a bit more....colourful? The designs awesome and kudos to your friend but you've coloured it rather drably. What with the swirls and whisps and orbs, it has alot of potential to exhibit a wide range of colours. I'd try to through in some contrasting primary colours, Possibly swirl some colours together and make a mesh inside the orbs. Go crazy, throw some colours around and see how it looks, post it after you try it (if you do ;)) .

Hahah you're right. You've also made me realize I forgot to post that this is one of many possible colour schemes I am thinking of trying. But I think before I go and make the next one I'll re-watch Yellow Submarine (I have it on DVD. The joy) haha.

I must have seen that movie like 10 times almost.

You've seen yellow submarine 10 times.....you've seen Pulp Fiction 'so many times' and you're an oficionado (sp?) of AAIW.....you're relly a guy of extremes aren't you? ;) Post some of your ideas for other colour schemes, and keep us updated as you make each one.

Changes:
-Altered neck and back foot slightly... Probably not enough to satisfy DW, I may go back again and keep trying
-Comlock, I adore your experiment with the lighting but I agree that it takes something away... I tried to find a happy medium.
-Brightened up the lamp.

Here's the full size of the new one:

Lookin' good, noticed some areas you highlighted which were dark in Com's. Must say, there isn't an enormous difference between the legs, but the change definately helps, the footpads are also a nice touch. Made the neck more consistent, you probably don't need to make the top of the neck where it meets the head and narrower, it looks good now that it's a consistent thickness. Took a better look at the doo-dads, a feather, a clock, nice attention to detail there.

Lookin' great Com, can't wait. Sorry I don't have any crits for ya', it's a great style.

Hey Arthur, looking great :) I really like how you're curving the constuction lines of the walls and buildings. It makes everything look very dynamic.

That duck is so damn cute RGGGHHH!!

Hey Com, maybe space the lines on the road a bit more as they're coming towards us? Not that much, I mean, it's not a great distance, but a little more space between the lines closest to us, and leaving the ones further away might be good? love how you drew in a few bricks on the buildings, aweosme look, I really like your style.

I agree with Comlock. And it sort of looks like a flying potato. It's very cute.

Try not to use pure black for your lines; I usually use very dark blue or red.
