It's my take on the "Journey Begins" theme... It features my old "Waltz of the Wierd" character redesign and that small house on the hill. ;)

And look at that perspective!

edited it some more... darkened the lips and put them more central, edited the skirt so it doesnt make it look like it's falling off (skirt edition made her look more slender) and shortened the hair by the request of Liam who made talon. Anything else need doing before i move onto the wings?

I got a mount(or whatever you call it) for my VCR camera, so I did this
linetest thingy on my crappy little unfinished bunny animation:
http://www.comlock.net/temp/linetest.htm
(some inbetweens are not drawn yet, and some frames are sketched with red-Col erase so it's a bit hard to se)

The images are captured trough monkey Jam Its free, and can also be used for stop motion animation. Very neat

I finished the body on the girl and added more details on the ants and ladybug

Cool alien creature, yellowknots-- is he smoking?? :D

If you are serious on improving your digital art--- buying a tablet would be a wise choice. Otherwise, you'll find that learning to draw with a mouse can be quite difficult. (it's not impossible, though. :))

You should work on drawing from reference. Draw things in your room, on your desk--- other people. From magazines, newspapers, nature--- just as long as it's real. You'll start getting better.

Also, it never hurts to look up books about drawing and anatomy at the library. Practice like hell.
-------------------------------

Good start on the painting, Tom! The lower half is shaping up well with tectures and the pleats.

How many different tones are you using to color?

------------------------------

This is the latest update of an inventory displayer I'm making for an RV business:

Link

I've made nearly 100 seperate swf's for all the different models and such, but filesize is now a concern. They average about 400k each and if the customer browsing the site is on a dialup, it would take ages to load and they'd quickly lose interest. I'm going to look into putting preloaders into strategic places and see if that will cut down the waiting.

Either that or simplifiy it drastically and cut down on JPEG quality. :yfok:

ARTHUR'S PILE OF AWESOME

You rock me in ways no man ever has. Why is it that every time I look at your stuff I'm all like, "God DAMN, why can't I draw/animate/rule at life like that?"

Anyway, painting's looking nice. Either sharpen up the highlights on the ants a little bit so they stand out more, or give them another color. They blend in too much with the log right now. Other than that, looking mighty fine. Keep an eye on your silhouette value; make sure everything reads.

ants and insects are meanty to blend in with their environment. Which is why they are similar colours because it is camouflague. If they stood out they would get eaten. I would of thought out of everyone here you should have known that.

some insects don't have that camo look. some want to stand out more. but you are right about the ants. they shoudl be blended in like that.

Maby some ant types blend in like that, but I agree what Ang said, because visually it doesent look that nice when its blended in like that, so I was thinking of darken the colours of the log instead. The sun wouldent light up the log as it is on the painting right now anyway.

I wanted to have the ants to have a glowing effect, when the light shines trough.
Something like this:

In that case I'd brighten them up a bit with that orangey red and only darken the log in the area closest to us. In fact, you might put in a faux cast shadow from something off scene to help break up that area...

Edit:

Quick Paint Over:

I think I lost an ant or two, but you get the idea. ;) Actually It looks like the ants are mostly in tact, but I lost their gear. :P

See? You guys can argue with ME, but I'll be damned if you argue with Sensei Arthur. He'll mess your shit up eight ways to Sunday.

A subtle "glow" effect would look incredible, especially if you combine it with a small glint on the rim of the carapace. (Edit: Like what Humble just did above me.)

Also...

I have NOT touched the colors in these photos in any way. Try telling me again that ants can't be colorful little bastards. If you could sting, blow up, or strip a whole cow in a matter of hours, you wouldn't need camo either.

And another glowy-ref for the comster:

n.
1. Zoology A hard bony or chitinous outer covering, such as the fused dorsal plates of a turtle or the portion of the exoskeleton covering the head and thorax of a crustacean.
2. A protective, shell-like covering likened to that of a turtle or crustacean: "He used to worry that Sarah would age the same way, develop the same brittle carapace" Anne Tyler.

;)

Commie:

It'd also be cool to get some of that amber color passing through to the shadow:

Good idea with that that arm pointing out of the frame from that ant.
I just didnt see that ugly way it folowed almost the same outer line of the log.
