Definetly flash, its got the smoothy line things. like when u draw a line and flash messes with it to make it look....flashy.... i like how he kinda made it like earth, the continents kinda fit together. |

Yeah. I made it in flash. Basically I decided on the general shape of the continent I wanted, and then when I drew around in it, I held onto my pen as loosely and as I could and just sorta lightly dragged the pen around to achieve the imperfect, natural, rocky edges of the landmasses. Yes, I decided to keep the continents remminicent of a past pangean state. Such as the coasts of the East and West continents and the top of the West continent with the bottom of the North continent. After that, I repositioned each continent into the layout I thought looked best. Then I went around and filled in little groups of islands around where I thought underwater mountains would rise out due to tectonic shift. The result was much more realistic than I thought I could have achieved. And with that, does anybody know how I can create realistic mountains?? It's driving me crazy. I've been going through all the tutorials google can find. Im trying to gain the geological effects of this map, or something similar. ![]() I know exactly how he achieved the forest terrain, (difference clouds, sharpen filters, color balance, and soft erase around the edges) but it's the mountains that's killing me  See, I dont want to have to cut out the mountains of a pre-existing map and just filter over them. Because, frankly, The direction in which the mountains are facing in those maps generally dont coincide with my ranges. |

If I were to attempt it (which i can't sadly) i would take a brownish color (or what ever color you want your mountains to be) and kinda scribble the moutain range in that color using a relatively thick brush. Then I would block in the highlights of the mountain (IE the whiteish color on that map) to make them pop out. Then maybe use the smoothing tool very finely around the edges of the white to blend them together. Id also do that at the base of all of the mountains to blend them with the terrain. I cant test this theory as I am wacomless but thats the approach I would start with. hope I helped. |

Mal, maybe you could spend a lot of time on a few mountains, then create a custom brush that uses them. Throw some size and slight hue variance on there... it should look decent. |

hmm, while this is probably going to take a hell of a lot more work for some fucking mountains than I wanted, im probably going to have to outline the shape of each friggin range, fill it, and apply a high-intensity chisel style. Excuse my language, I've been spending all day trying to figure out what to do (and sadly, without photoshop there to test it out. Luckily, I have all the effects of the filters semi memorized so that I can imagine what would work....my god. Im such a loser) |

Yeh what you could do is, select a few bits of mountain from that picture up there, make it into a texture in photoshop (edit > Define pattern) , make it so it joins up well and use the pattern stamp tool where u want mountains on your map hmm i just tried that and unfortunately the two styles very tremendously and it dusn't look good at all, you just need to design some simple mountains and use them in the stamp tool instead, should be easy to draw, it really just like a few lines |

Mal, you should try pasting a blown-up section of that map on your canvas--- scribble amok until you hit the right rub. ![]() ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a good/evil for school. ![]() I ruined the anatomy. I plan on throwing some compressed charcoal into the bottom right to bring out some contrast. |

I actually came up with a neat-o looking mountain style that's pretty easy to use. 1. Make a layer for the mountains and make a custom style. 2. Settings: ![]() 3. Set the highlight and shadow colors to whatever colors apply best to your map. The texture I used was called "Grey Granite" but any bumpy-ish one would work I spose. 4. Make a reglar circular brush and set Hardness at 0-40 [I used 0]. I think according to the settings, it won't matter what color your brush is because the bevel covers it all, but make the color similar just in case. 5. Brush your mountains on! The less opaque your brush is, the shorter the mountains will be. So try setting you brush to have opacity on Pen Pressure rather than size. I made the mountain style for this image along with styles for coast, forest, snow, sea, etc.

Believe it or not its not that hard, the nose is probably the only easier thing on the face. Here's a set of lips, done really simply to show you, I did this now in about 1 minute.... All you have to remember is, shadow the bottom lip on one side, lepps are slightly darker near the middle line, most of the time they aren't round on the bottom lip, but they have a more flat bit on the bottom most part. Also sahde one side of the middle part of the top lip because this usually comes forward a bit. (The part under the indent below your nose.)

Ak: i blew them up and selected around them when i tried my chisel technique. While it resulted in a swell Hawaiian island-type range, it wasnt what i was going for. Thanks for the suggestion.
Bardeux you fucking rock my socks, dude. I'll try and mess around with that technique to see if I achieve an ever better effect, but either way, you rule. Thank you so much.

G'day Y'all! I had a dream! That one morning all hell would break loose! Fiery demons would burst out of the ground destroying all in their path! One human would be granted and cursed with the brilliance of the demonic powers all creatures of hell posessed! He alone would stand up for the humans and lead them to victory! His name, was w00t! Seriously, i had a dream that was more detailed than that, so i expanded on it and its now my idea for a game.. sounds alot like oblivion, but it has a lot of differences. Of course it will be a couple of decades before I actually start making the game. However, this dream is a re-occuring dream so I might as well practice on some imagery. ![]() 'Tis a work in progress, its a lightning storm, in the foreground is large ice blocks exploding out of the ground. I'm yet to draw the guy with the sword, but it will come. Crits & Comments Prease byby |

Woot I have a few Ideas for you, some of them consist of a bit more work then others but here it goes. 1) I really think the straight lighting bolts need to go, straight lines most of the time need to go anyways. Especially something in nature. 2) The color choices make it a bit harsh on the eyes, and the contrast from front to back is little to zero. Right now the whole picture is incredibly flat.. I would also change up some of the colors, play with it a bit more, I like where the clouds are headed, and it has some potential. |

yeh i agree with everything jon just said, definately fix them up, take a look at lightning pictures also or when there is lightning go out and watch it, you will be able to draw it, it really isnt that hard. To be exact you don't really actually draw the lightning bolt itself, but the blackness around it. They should also be pure white in the middle, Ill see if i can give u an example jsut so u can see, ok so we all know that lightning is very bright, but how do we achieve the effect of light in pictures, obviously we can't make a blinding light, but we can make it look blinding. As you can see even the blue one is pure white in the middle, also the further out you put the less opaque brush strokes the stronger the light will look, note these were done realllllly quickly but i think u can see wat i am trying to show you? ![]() Also It might have been Humble or Comlock, im not sure but sumone has done a tutorial on neon lights, and its a very similar technique to achieve lightning...... |

Even if they we're ice blocks, they're over saturated, you would get a lot of hard lighting in that kind of atmopshere, however even in day time ice blocks would not be that bright ..hmm... here's not the best example but you get the idea: Lightning storm example Ice at sunset More ice ^^ hope that helps W00t

Wow, those are small. Hey, if you wanna continue the project, maybe you could redo the designs on the computer and texture them, then print ti out and make it even better than before! Also, I used to be quite into paper crafts myself [still am I suppose], and if you want to make the final product more finished and pro looking, you can add little "tabs" on one of the edges for each corner. That way, you simply glue the tab and stick it on the inside of the corner so the seam is invisible! |
