I'm new to language to (started 6 july 2005), but here are some tips i'm using: learn the 1 syllabel first then the 2 syllabels ect. use the Matchmaker and examinator to test yourself and take at least a half hour practicing the new words (don't try to learn all the words in one day it'll just get worse) example: Every day a half hour I learn seven new words. Then I use let's say the Macthmaker and train a bit on the ones I learnt the day before and a bit on the ones i learnt today (and I promise you it's easier than learning french or any other language). And when you think you can enough try to learn the colors notes and septaglyphs.
Well that's at least my plan for learng Sarus and if you want you can use it to. ^^

excellent advice Vicereine :)
Also remember that each time you learn a word, you're really learning two words, because each word pronounced backwards is either the opposite meaning, or a closely related word.

e.g.

smd = night
dms = day

mdt = walk
tdm = run

dls = tree
sld = forest

Well thank you! (pruod of herself) :D I forgot about the oppsites... Yeah those makes it even easier to learn. ^^

Edit:

but that doesn't really apply to the 2 syllabel words e.g.

dr : I, me
rd : My mine

But i'm not sure if those are opposites or not but on Swedish or Spanish they aren't (english isn't my native language).

I'm not good at it but it's fun to read other peoples messages in Sarus :)
But there's one thing I don't really get in this message:Posted Image "The learn the language of the forest is very easy", I think it is... but I don't really get why it flashes Indigo - White - Indigo at the beginning, what does White mean? :huh:

a blink (as you know) indicates a space between words, and a quick white flash indicates a double syllable... so indigo-white-indigo means :6::6:
:D
Welcome to the forum btw!

mt--

Is there any word on when the flash cards will be re-released? Looks like they've been down a while, though I don't mind if it means Adam spends his time producing more Brackenwood cartoons!

Anyway, as I'm working my way through the two-syllable words, I find myself wishing for a tool that will quiz me on a wider selection of words. The Examiner and Matchmaker are very nice, except I sort of feel like I'm cheating by narrowing down the selections so much! If I didn't know in advance which seven words were going to be in the quiz, it would help me learn better at this stage.

Don't get me wrong, though, I still use both tools often and find them helpful. I may just whomp up a Perl script for my own use, but not if something already exists.

Is the XML file of the language available anyplace?

st!

Hey swartzer, yeah HERE's the XML. You might want to link to this, rather than take it away though, because I'll be updating it with the 4-syllable words pretty soon. It's up to you though.. I just ask that if you use it anywhere, that you put a small notice somewhere saying that it's mine ;)

Also there is a Flash card type thing in my sig. Just click the septaglyph for a random word. You'll have to use some self-control to stop yourself peeking at the answer though, because there's currently no 'hide definitions' button. :++:

Dor dod remum red ladut somus rel, re rer lamus dof. Fat sot, Creature! :)

I'm still just a couple days into the learning process, so I'll revert to English for a few questions.

When spelling Sarus phonetically, is it just a matter of personal taste whether to use u or y for the 'schwa' sound, or are there rules about that?

Do I need to state the indicative every time I use a verb in that sense, or is it assumed because that's the most common case?

How does one say "Bitey" in Sarus, anyway? Without the four-syllable words, the best I can come up with is stuff like "Dof mir dod falut lal refut ref titur" (I'm guessing "bite" is in the four-syllable list, since "attacks using his mouth" is, well, rather a mouthful. ;) ) or else just "Larus titur falut" ... except I don't know how to turn a verb into a noun to say something like "attacker" or "biter".

I have other questions too, but I'll hold them for the moment.
