Yeah, these religion threads pop up all the time. And I like to read them cause I like to listen to people bitch about their god. I think aliens are real, and I think they created us in test tubes and put us here as an experiment. Wanted to see what we could do. Then they all died of a horrible galactic plague and now we're all alone on the Earth. There are other alien races out there, some that were made by our progenitors and some that were not, but none of them have made it here yet. Well, maybe a few, but they always either die from diseases picked up on Earth, get killed and hidden away by the governments of the world, or else take one look at mankind and say, fuck that noise, I'm outta here. And that's my two cents. |

I'm sorry if your offendied in any way by what i said. i started this thread so people could freely express their beliefs without ridcule or the risk of starting a huge controversy. I apologize if my free statement of my beliefs is causing trouble. I dont want anyone to get reported for whatever reason, so i think its best if we all just drop the matter. I've already removed my previous post. |

Don't worry about it. There have been other religious threads in the past and they got by far more intense than this. |

religion will not be neccesary once people learn to do the right thing without fear of consequences. religion is only here to try to keep us in line. all the things religion tells us not to do goes against better judgement anyway. |

Ah, but would we have that "better judgement" without religion planting the seed in the first place? It's all philosophical you know. |

Hmm. Considering the state the world's in now, I doubt it. And this is even despite religion. And God said unto Abraham: "Make me a sandwich..." *runs* |

yeah...its a shame really. However, here's another thing to look at...Sex is considered some form of taboo in the bible, yet in past religions like the ancient Wiccan, where females held the divine role, sex was celebrated. In a way, sex is part of the cause to the world's moral decline, but not because its bad, but because many of the major religions made it forbidden, and as a result, all the more enticing. Many other things that were considered normal today are taboo now, and our laws have shaped around what religions wanted us to believe. murder used to be perfectly exceptable in the form of vigilante justice, stealing didn't carry such a heavy penalty...you see where im going. Religion, while at one time keeping its first generations in line, also created the evil that it was trying to stop. Its like in wildfires, when a small fire is started to burn out the grass so the real fire doesnt damage important items. The churches and religions started a small fire, but there was no big fire in the first place. Put simply, religion was a double-bladed sword. Its the cause of, and the solution to, many of life's problems. |

 dude, that had me rolling. I love these threads. What with the controversy and everything. I read comic books, and I have been reading Conan lately. In the back they have these little blurbs about the life of Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan. In one he is discussing the decline of civilization and how in every civilization that has fallen apart over the centuries (ie: Rome, Babylon, whatever...) there has been a moral decline right before the fall. Sex, violence, crime...all these things rise up in the last days and then the society falls. He also mentions that this is the way the world (or at least America) is turning. Note, this was written in the 30's so if he was in any way correct, and I personally think he was, then this country is on the decline big time. Thoughts? |

Eventually it's going to get to where we have one of those governments in Equilibrium. Anyone else seen that movie? I just got on Brackenwood after watching it. That scene with the dogs will haunt my dreams forever.
According to the Da Vinci Code, the whole sex is evil thing was just a political move to boot the pagans out. I don't really know how seriously to take that, the book being fiction and all, but if you think about it it's really kinda retarted to outlaw the one thing that insures our species' survival. Catholicism was, I think, mainly used (if not intended; you can flame me all you want for this, have fun) to control the masses in Middle Ages Europe. Peasant: But why do you get to be king? King: Because God wills it! *pimp slap* I'm not saying God or the beliefs are corrupt. I'm saying that it became a tool for monarchs to use to control their people. And the Church bought into it, at least at the higher levels, and became a bureaucratic political entity. Religion as a set of guidelines to live your life is great. But religion as an excuse for doing whatever you want is bs. |

Pfft... I'm not talking video or photograph. I know every video or photograph can be edited into bullshit. I'm talking in actually being there and seeing it. Ya'know. That is why I believe in ghosts beuase I have seen one and hear them all of the time at my peoples houses. Hows about we move on from religion and talk about some other theories? |

Agreed. uuhhhhhh... Ah! here's something... After like, 2 hours of boredom in school, i startd writing this little "scientific journal" in my vast amounts of free time. Here are a few things i thought of. 1) Time travel is impossible, due to the fact that time does not exist. Time is a human concieved notion, and cannot be altered. The only concievable way to travel through time is tomove at the speed of time, but since time is numbers, and can go on for an infinite negative or decimal (sorry uber sci-fi people) 2) There us a center to the unvierse, it is where all the matter in the universe originated (i.e. the Big Bang). For those who dont know much about this, all the matter in the universe was ionce compacted into a super-hot orb the size of a period. The way i figure it, this was the center of the universe. Ideas? Criticism? Anything? |

Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with your theory on time travel. The whole concept is pretty cool and all, and who wouldn't want to go back in time and fix our past mistakes, but in reality I just don't see it happening. And you have way too much free time on your hands if that's what you think of when you have nothing else to be doing. I was always scoping out the girls in class. |

I'm not even going to get into time travel, because we can't do it now, so what's the difference? But about the centre of the universe, there isn't one. The Universe is infinite, it has no edge, and thus has no centre. Everything in the universe is getting farther away from everything else, all at the same speed(actually, everything's accelerating, but let's not get into that). |

Your eight years old how can you possibly have 2 hours of free time? There is no center of the universe because as foster said the universe is expanding, but its actually deaccelerating and theoretically will snap back. |

Actually, that's an old theory, they've now discovered that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. We're not sure why exactly, which is why we've had to come up with some new concepts like dark energy(energy that's there, we just can't detect it). |

Where did you get the idea that im 8? im like, definitly 15. Allow me to correct a past mistake...when i made reference to the center of the universe, i should have stated that it wasthe center of matter, i.e. matter's origin, which i consider to be the center of the universe. unless, of course, the BIG Bang occured in multiple parts of the universe... |
